Overnight, the perception of London as a financial centre has changed. New York, Hong Kong and Zurich have been doing high fives since Darling dropped his bonus bombshell in Wednesday’s pre-budget report to levy a one-off 50% windfall tax. France may have since followed Britain in adopting the bonus tax but other countries are staying silent.
Many members of the public will be only too glad to stand outside Heathrow’s Terminal 5 to wave these highly paid bankers goodbye. But in time we will wish Darling had intervened differently.
As I have said before, the profits made by banks this year were windfall profits. Without huge state help, Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group would have gone bust. The banks now say they are safe but we have no idea how much slack there is in their balance sheets if the economy enters a double-dip recession. In addition, we have no clarity over the detail of writedowns that have been made and whether there is parity between banks on how they have done so. In these circumstances, it is hard to see why anyone should expect a bonus this year.

CDs Get Small: Penny-size data-storage devices may lead to computers on your wrist.
Compact discs pack an impressive amount of information into a small space, but to Stephen Chou they seem as primitive as reel-to-reel tapes. The Princeton University electrical engineer has created CDs that can concentrate data 800 times more efficiently than current discs. Chou performed this feat by drastically shrinking the already tiny data-coding pits on the CD's surface. Chou can make a CD the size of a penny that could store five hours' worth of movies.
Current CDs are fabricated by injecting a liquid polymer against a mold that has data¬coding bumps on its surface. These bumps - the mirror image of the pits that wind up in the polymer - are cut out with lithography, the same process used to manufacture computer chips. But lithography uses beams of light, which cannot be used to etch patterns smaller than their wavelengths. Chou turned to a process called electron beam lithography to make the mold: instead of light, electrons create the pattern. Electrons have a much shorter wavelength than light, so they can make smaller bumps.
The pits on Chou's CDs are smaller than a single wavelength of the laser light, so they cannot be "read" by a laser, as are normal CDs. Instead, the enhanced CDs are played like phonograph records, using a needle - albeit a minuscule, high-tech one. The tip of an atomic force microscope, tapped along the surface of the disc, reads the location of the pits. These microscopes are more commonly used by researchers for fine tasks, such as moving individual atoms.

U ozbiljnim slučajevima, može da dovede do paralize dišnih mišića koja prouzrokuje smrt jer blokira izlučivanje neurotransmitera, acetilholina (koji je prisutan na perifernim nervnim završecima na mišićnim ćelijama) blokirajući na taj način prenos nervnog impulsa.

Sul quadrante luminoso si accende l’indicatore di funzionamento (7).
La durata del riscaldamento è stata fissata dal costruttore in 2 ore.
Essa può essere cambiata una volta o permanentemente.
Per modificare il tempo di riscaldamento, dopo l’accensione tramite il tasto (3), è sufficiente premere il tasto (4) per ridurre il tempo prefissato, oppure il tasto (5) per aumentarlo.
Per modificare permanentemente il tempo di riscaldamento tenere premuto il tasto (3) e contemporaneamente il tasto (4), per ridurlo, o il tasto (5) per aumentarlo.
Ad operazione conclusa il quadrante luminoso continua a segnalare il tempo originale di riscaldamento.
Per visualizzare il nuovo è sufficiente spegnere e poi riaccendere il riscaldatore tramite il pulsante (3).
