You suggest that the originality of your work lies in the fact that you have used microscopy, rather than gross morphology, to produce your findings. But you then argue that "fibres" are bundles of myocytes that are sufficiently large to be seen by the naked eye. This needs to be validated with histology, since the structures produced by dissection are at the whim of the prosector. I repeat my initial criticism that the working unit of the myocardium is the myocyte. There is no such anatomical unit as a "fibre", and you have not demonstrated any such unit. My original criticism still stands. Although Ho and colleagues used "fibre" in the past, this does not mean that we should continue to use this anatomically inappropriate term.
In addition, I am not persuaded that you have demonstrated "atypical" myocytes similar to the transitional myocytes of the atrioventricular node. The transitional cells are transitional only because they are intermediate in morphology between the working myocytes and the myocytes
making up the atrioventricular node. Your illustration in no way demonstrates myocytes that are larger than the working myocytes. To make this statement would require validation with morphometric studies. This topic is of far less relevance to your investigation than are details of
the inferior paraseptal space, which you argue should not be discussed because of problems with space. You could make space for this important topic by deleting the unfounded discussion of purported "atypical" myocytes in the flap valve of the oval fossa. Far more convincing
evidence would be needed to show that such myocytes are "atypical".
I do not feel the authors have responded to my criticisms and have provided insufficient anatomic evidence to support their ideas.
