About me

I have officially started my translator's career at 16; unofficially, I have been an interpreter since I can remember.

I was born in Vilnius, Lithuania, to a Lithuanian and a Pole. I was raised bilingually, but by the age of about 4 I was already trilingual - fluent in Polish, Lithuanian, and Russian, which I picked up mostly from my childhood friends. My parents ensured that spoken and written English was a part of my environment since early childhood, and by 12 years old I could converse freely about politics, economics, or any other subject.

After my family moved to Prague, Czech Republic, I enrolled in the International Baccalaureate secondary education program, and in 2002 I was awarded a Bilingual Diploma, with Lithuanian and English as my native languages. During this period I also learned Czech and started doing my first translation jobs. In 2006 I graduated from the State University of New York Empire State College/University of New York in Prague with a Bachelor if Arts in Communication and Mass Media.

What sets me aside from most other interpreters is that I have learned all the languages I work with at a very early age, through active interaction with the living language and its cultural environment, rather than formal schooling. To this day, I use all my languages on a daily basis (I speak Lithuanian and Polish to my family and friends, Russian and English to my husband, and Czech, Russian and English in my daily work interactions with clients). Because of this, my knowledge of all 5 of my working languages is bordering on native speaker level. Although translation work is not my primary profession, I consider it my calling, mainly because I "grew into it" since my school years. I enjoy the constant learning process that this work requires, as well as being able to help people to communicate more effectively with each other.
