anastomoBy. Otevíráme perikard. Zavedena tepenná kanyla do vzestupné aorty. Pravým oukem zavedena ilní dvoustupňová kanyla, vent dle Cooleyho do vzestupné aorty. Sputěn MO. Revidujeme koronární tepny. RIA je středně sklerotická, rekonstruovatelná, RIM středně sklerotický, rekonstruovatelný, RMS velmi těce sklerotická, rekonstruovatelná, ACD hypoplastická, probíhá spíe jako RVD po margo acutus, rekonstruovatelná- Naloena svorka na vzestupnou aortu a kořenem aorty podána kardioplegie. SoučaBně srdce chlazeno lokálně. Ineise RVD, prům. 1,5 mm a ilní těp naíváme end to side. Plegie bypassein. Inciae RMS, prům. 1,5 mm a Silní těp naíváme end to side (tepna zoufalé kvality, sklerotická, drobivá, trhá se). Plegie bypassem i do kořene. Incise RIM, prům. 1,7 mm a ilní bypass naSit side to side. Plegie bypassem. Otevíráme RIA, průměr 2,5 mm a LIMA naita end to side. Fixace tepny k epikardu. Povolen průtok tepnou, sejmuta svorka z ascendentní aorty. Srdce obnovuje rytmus spontánně. Prox. an. ilních bypassů naíváme end to side na asc Aortu. Pro asystolii naSíváme 1+1 Btim. epik. el. na PS a PK. Postupně plníme srdce a končíme MO. Srdce pumpuje uspokojivě, vyjmuta ilní kanyla, krev z rezervoiru kompletně vracíme. Aplikován Protamin. V té době se objevují
změny na elevace na EKG v obl boční stěny - kontrolujeme průchodnost byssů -dobře průchodné, ev. problém na RMS je vak vezhledem k postiení cévy neřeitelný. Nasazen Corotrop+Noradrenalin. Oběhová situace uspokojivá, inotropie se zdá vpořádku. Změny na EKG sej postupně upravují. Provádíme TEE - bez nových poruch kinetiky ve srovnání B předopeačním nálezem, Ml stejná jako předoperaěně. Jako vedlejí nález objevem kulovitý útvar za levou síní, extraperikardiálně, částečně vyplněn tekutinou - divertikl jícnu, cysta?? Palpačně jeStě revidujeme dutinu perikardiální - bez nálezu, útvar je příliě kraniálně dle TEE. Vyjmuta tepenná kanyla. Nakonec zaveden jeden retrokardiální a jeden retrosternální drain, jeden té do levé pleurální dutiny. Kontrola krvácení. Uzávěr sternotomie a sutura operační rány po vrstvách. Nemocný po celou dobu hemodynamicky stabilní.

Under general anesthesia without event; after disinfection and draping of the surgical field, median sternotomy performed. At the same time, great saphenous vein harvested from lower extremity; of good quality, usable for reconstruction. After the sternotomy, we penetrate through anterior mediastinum to the pericardium, draw away the left pleura and harvest the left mammary artery using electrocoagulation. After removal completed, Heparin administered; distal dissection of the mammary artery performed, spasm canceled out by administering Papaverin and the end prepared for anastomosis. Pericardium opened. Arterial cannula is inserted into the ascending aorta. A venous two-stage cannula inserted through the right auricle, vent into the ascending aorta as per Cooley. Extracorporeal circulation started. Coronary arteries reviewed. Left anterior descending artery (ramus interventricularis anterior, RIA) is moderately sclerotic, reconstructable; ramus intermedius, RIM is moderately sclerotic, reconstructable; left marginal artery (ramus marginalis sinister, RMS) is very heavily sclerotic, reconstructable; right coronary artery (arteria coronaria dextra, ACD) is hypoplastic, course more like that of ramus ventricularis dexter (RVD) along the right margin (margo acutus), reconstructable. Clamp placed on the ascending aorta and cardioplegia delivered through the aortic root. At the same time the heart cooled locally. Incision of RVD, 1.5 mm in diameter and vein graft is sewn end to side. Cardioplegia through the bypass. Incision of RMS, 1.5 mm in diameter and vein graft is sewn end to side (artery of desperately poor quality, sclerotic, crumbling, tearing up). Cardioplegia through the bypass as well as into the root. Incision of RIM, 1,7 mm in diameter and vein bypass is sewn side to side. Cardioplegia through the bypass. RIA is opened, 2,5 mm in diameter and LIMA is sewn end to side. Artery affixed to the epicardium. Flow through artery allowed, clamp removed from the ascending aorta. The heart renews its rhythm spontaneously. Proximal anastomosis of vein bypasses are sewn end to side to the ascending aorta. Due to asystole, 1+1 epicardial pacing electrodes sewn on to the right atrium and right ventricle. Heart gradually filled and extracorporeal circulation ended. The heart pumping satisfactorily, venous cannula is removed, blood from reservoir completely returned. Protamine applied. At that time, changes in elevation in the ECG appear in the area of the lateral wall; openness of bypasses is checked - well passable; possible problem at RMS is, however, insolvable given the impairment of the artery. Corotrop + Noradrenalin administered. Circulatory status satisfactory, inotropy appears in order. Changes in ECG gradually modulated. TEE performed - without new disruptions of kinetics compared with the pre-operation finding, mitral insufficiency same as pre-operation. Už samotný začátek je napínavý. Vzrušení neumenšuje ani polopatická expozice, jež málem dává tušit i pozdější rozuzlení. Vše se točí kolem pikniku, úhelného kamene obou v titulu naznačených žánrů, jehož rekonstrukce je smyslem akčního umění a nesmyslem fotbalové hry. Odehrává se neuvěřitelné. O osudu žánru prvního se rozhoduje na půdě žánru druhého. Právě na tuto půdu dopadá odlesk nebeského pikniku tak pronikavě, že věčně reprizovaný kus vychází v neohlášeně premiérovém gala. Zdrojem zmíněného napětí je radostná bázeň před nastupující dokonalostí.
Sestup ideálního pikniku na fotbalovou zemi neprobíhá jako poťouchle křížovkářské whodunit. Od prvního taktu této labutí písně akčního umění se ví, že to všechno Panenka. Piknikový rekonstruktér zde řádí velmi šeplavě. Proto není divu, že v kusu navzdory zachovaným fotbalovým okolnostem mnoho při starém nezůstane. Třeba osoby se změní k nepoznání. Zato nic se nezmění na jejich obsazení. Až na osoby ve zdi, u nichž později překvapivě i na obsazení dojde.
Jinak zůstává vyjukaný ansámbl při piknikové oběti našemu sólistovi i jeho domovské scéně věrný.
Děj se ovšem šabloně mače brzy vymkne. Nastávající piknik se zabrzdit nedá. Návštěvníci stadiónu bezděky zapomenou na svůj trpný divácký úděl. Nejprve se sice diváky stanou i sami hráči, ale pak se novopečení i ochozoví diváci unisono promění v jiné osoby. Nově nabytým piknikovým tikem se kategoriálně odliší od atrapových účastníků produkcí akčního umění. Ti se rekonstrukce pikniku nikdy nedočkají, třebaže jim byla pod hlavičkou uchopení archetypického rituálu slíbena. Místo inzerovaného magična pomáhají na pseudoumělecký svět nestoudně kašírovanému aranžmá, které je míněno a halasně prováděno nikoliv jako nevinná úlitba, ale jako přímá služba molochu dokumentace.
Leč o dokumentománii později. Jsme teprve na začátku děje. Pro potěchu vyprodaného domu dotáčí Antonín Panenka v polokruhu před velkým vápnem soupeře svou proslulou “káču”, jednotaktovou piruetu, kterou vtahuje dosavadní diváky do piknikového víru. Stejně nakládá i s hráči, přičemž zejména protihráče odstřeďuje. Z vyřízených aktérů by pak definitivně učinil diváky, kdyby jim ve své projekci nerezervoval aspoň okrajové místo.
Uprostřed této přípravné finty je Panenka nejodolnějším z rozvířených obránců nouzově sražen. Nicméně hned vstává a zamyšleně kráčí do hloubi vápna. “Protihráči” v bázni ustupují za linii polokruhu, aby nerušili očekávanou exekuci. Takto přímočaře se ale akční umění ze světa sprovodit nedá. Banality pokutového kopu zůstanou účastníci Panenkovy rekonstrukce ušetřeni. Taktní rozhodčí nabídne žánru, jehož pódia jsou jinde, ještě jednu zbytečnou šanci. O něm se má teď bez něj rozhodnout, a k tomu na této nepravděpodobné frontě. Panenku ovšem peripetijní nařízení milovaného trestného kopu nevyvede z dobré míry. Co následuje, připomene a vzápětí i předčí čůrajícího pana Blooma.
Odstředění kontrahenti sice tuší, že míč doletí do všanc vydané svatyně, ale horší je čeká. Proměna kusu pokračuje. Po změně osob - v účastníky pikniku - se právě u bývalých protihráčů začíná měnit i dosud nedotčené obsazení. Zmíněné osoby nabývají podoby mátožných akčních umělců, kteří zde z vlastních těl postavili zeď, jež ze všech zdí, co jich je na světě, se nejvíc podobá zdi fotbalové. Hráče-umělce začíná oprávněně tísnit představa, že piknikový exekutor jejich zeď překopne do cizího, tedy jejich vlastního žánru.
Jsou zde všichni, nebo aspoň ti, co se nechávali nejvíce vidět a slyšet. Ti, co piknik obětovali umění, protože ho uměním chtěli učinit, aniž by věděli jak. Ti, co umění obětovali dokumentaci, protože je jenom pro ni předstírali. Ti, co si tak dlouho loudili o kunsthistorické evangelium, až vyspěli v adresáty zvěsti zcela opačné. Sami si ji teď sdělují tichou poštou. Kdo si to vlastně ve zdi šeptá? Na objasněnou nezasvěceným a připomněnou pamětníkům následuje letmý výčet.
Ti, kterým ctižádost zeď opustit nedovolila, v ní teď stojí jako zařezaní. Zato vtažení diváci piknikují, až se z nich kouří. Mají proč. Antonín Panenka učiní to, před čím se jindy nerozpakuje ani v plném provozu hry, není-li si jist momentálním stavem živlů. Na cestě k míči se zastaví, nasliní prst a zdvihne, aby zjistil, odkud vítr vane. Oč choreograficky zdařileji je zde pojímána úloha živlů při rekonstrukci pikniku, než třeba v době autorovy akční minulosti, kdy jeho tým ve jménu hasičského principu land-artové pohotovosti “sjížděl po tyčích”, kdykoliv na místě chystané události došlo k objednané konstelaci živlů.
Jakmile Panenka živel zidentifikuje, stane se fotbalový čas “pohnutým obrazem piknikové věčnosti”. V tom okamžiku se Panenka a jeho věrní ocitnou v reflektorickém kruhu, jehož vnějšek je zatemněn, jako tomu kdysi bývalo v záznamech kanadských hokejových gólů. Využijme Panenkova vztyčeného prstu a zdržme se chvíli v zatemněném vnějšku ještě nerozzářeného kruhu. Dokud se věčnost ve svém vezdejším obraze ještě ani o píď nepohnula. Jako z červené knihovny se čte, jak sám autor tehdy Panenkovi neodolal.
Těsně před utkáním autor vystoupil na vrchol tribuny za osudovou brankou, odkud je vidět až na tréninkové hřiště pod Wienerwaldem. V jediném stinném koutě vyprahlé plochy spatřil zapikolovaného Antonína Panenku, a aby nerušil předzápasovou exercicii, jen neznatelně mu pokynul. Později seděl za osudovou brankou a už z pikniku utéci nemohl, ani kdyby chtěl. Pak jen Panenkův míč k němu letěl, přímo na něj, a nejen opticky se zvětšoval, až ho zadržela předepsaná síť. To už autor nevydržel a usedavě se rozplakal. Nebyl to nářek nad pohledným gólem, nota bene vítězným, ani nad zánikem živé mrtvoly akčního umění, byl to šťastný pláč nad samotným piknikovým vtělením, a autor se nechal od své životní družky dlouze tišit...
Potud soukromé svědectví. Zdá se, že nás přiblížilo k pointě víc, než je zdrávo. Proto se teď rychle vraťme k tomu, co se vlastně dělo. Opustili jsme Panenku v póze piknikového guru. Po inkasovaném faulu se kvapem zotavil a teď se tu producíruje, jako by fotbalový pánbůh nebyl doma. Nic neprozrazuje lopotu rekonstrukce. Obvykle krušné místní ohledání je pojato jako hravé meteorologické intermezzo. Sotva intermezzo skončí, je vše jasné. Piknik je na světě a může se stkvít. Rekonstrukce se otevírá improvizaci.
Panenka se pomalu rozbíhá. Na obyčejný kop to ale v nastalém opojení nevypadá. Čím blíže je Panenka míči, tím více se vzdaluje světu soutěže, k němuž až dosud náležel. Piknikanti právem zavětří. Brzy se jim má potvrdit, co by rádi zaplašili jako fámu. Jakmile Panenka do míče kopne, ocitne se rovnýma fotbalovýma nohama ve světě umění. Mátohy ohroženého žánru, jehož vrak by měl být nastávajícím kopem doražen, se ve zdi naposledy napřimují. Panenka už je před míčem a polomrtvý obor, jenž by měl vlastně skomírat někde na hony daleko, čeká na ránu z milosti. Na Panenkovo umělecké dopuštění.
Až dosud byl Panenka virtuálně fotbalistou. Elegance jeho fines, pasů a gólů sice fascinovala, ale pořád setrvával oběma virtuózníma nohama na fotbalové zemi. Šťastné dítě neúprosné soutěže. Za čarami a kouzly vždy odborníci pilně rozeznávali góly a dodnes se jich nemohou dopočítat. Teď už staré počty neplatí. Piknikové krásno očekávaného gólu se do statistické kolony nevejde. Irelevantní pravidla sice zůstanou lhostejně zachována, ale se zničujícím duchem soutěže je amen. Sportovní novinář se šmahem změní ve výtvarného kritika, ale to jen proto, aby mu nad nekrologem žánru zbyly oči pro pláč.
Panenka zatím kope do míče a ani neví, co ho čeká, jestliže se kop vydaří. Není třeba třikrát hádat. Ve vlastním, nyní vlastně bývalém žánru, bude uctěn a pro jistotu penzionován, zatímco dosavadní cizí žánr, na jehož výsostných pódiích Panenka nikdy nestanul, nedovolí novopečenému primasovi ani jedno předoponové poděkování. Nemůže mu je dovolit. Je notoricky známo, jak to dopadne s žánrem, který vydá bezchybný exemplář. Dokonalost, k níž je vyhoněn, ho “exemplárně” zruší. Totéž čeká a nemine žánr, jenž je takto “zdokonalen” jinde. Jenže takový jen těžko exituje s poctami.
Některých poct zůstane ušetřen i sám Panenka. I když se mu probíhající kop podaří, aplausu se nedočká. Při pikniku se netleská. Ani po uměleckém gólu. Navíc i veteráni frenetických potlesků strnou pod náporem štěstí. Akční umění pak pro novice vůbec nemá klaku. Už dotleskalo. Nedoženou to ani smuteční hosti. Nejsou žádní. Žánr je vypudil ještě v době, kdy byli údajnými účastníky. Ve jménu vandalizující dokumentace.
Míč se mezitím zlověstně nese nad hloučkem akcionistů. Ani oni smutečně nehostují. Jsou doma. Naposledy. A smutek, ten drželi ve všech svých akcích. Za smrtelný hřích proti etice záznamu se platí. Umělci ve zdi se neptají, na kom je řada. Obejdou se bez sufléra, i když kdysi závěr kusu biflovali zcela jinak. Zcizili svůj žánr zbytnými záznamy a nikdo jim nemusí ohlašovat příchod kapitálního trestu. Akční umění zbytnělo ve vlastní dokumentaci. A to programově. Hned od začátku mělo v ní a jen v ní přetrvávat - a taky v ní přetrvalo. Až do posledních tónů umíráčku, který mu rozezvučel geniální nováček.
Fotbal má naproti tomu hroší kůži. Nevyletí z ní, ani kdyby se Panenka na hlavu postavil. A že Panenka v rámci ustupujících, ale nepřekročených pravidel piknikuje jako ještě nikdy. Fotbalovou hru nemůže ohrozit ani do nekonečna opakovaný šot vyvoleného gólu. Spíš bez šotu než bez diváka by se obešla. Proto se taky nemusí trápit tím, zda je fotogenická. Na rozdíl od akčního umění, které ve své umělé závislosti na prestižním záznamu účastného diváka zcela vyloučilo.
Panenka se dívá za míčem, jak se od něj horempádem vzdaluje, a spokojené mžourá. Situace vyšla velmi fotogenicky. Panenka si ten luxus může dovolit. Všechny jeho kopy a finty jsou takové. Náruživci si je zvěčňují, ale nikdo se jim o to neprosil. Svět, a nejen ten fotbalový, by se nezbořil, ani kdyby z dokumentace sešlo. Pravý smysl Panenkových aktů je po výtce piknikový.
Největší z jeho aktů právě vrcholí. Míč přeletěl zeď a neodvratně pokračuje rovnou do svatyně. Spolu s tímto převratným kopem přes hlavy překonaných autodokumentaristů spěje k závěru i naše pocta. Rekonstrukce se vyvedla. Za Panenkův piknik by se ani jeho vzor nahoře nemusel hanbit. Však taky na celý jeden žánr stačil. Do poslední chvíle napínavá chvála Antonína Panenky se stala nekrologem akční odnože výtvarného umění, kterému tento “virtuóz odjinud” učinil až příliš dobře.
Míč doletěl a Panenka si neodpustí krátký záchvat radosti. Právem. Pod fotbalovou způsobou se pikniku většinou nevede. Jemu se ale tak dokonale zdařil, že to někde zcela jinde nepřežila branže, která piknik vždycky za svůj měla. Až do její svatyně dokopl Panenka exemplář, na jaký se sama, dokud ještě byla, nikdy nezmohla.
Teprve teď se můžeme uvolnit, jak nám slibovala předvolební básnička z motta. Reflektorický kruh osiřel a zhasl. Ansámbl předvedeného kusu je rozpuštěn. Měl hrát to, co odjakživa, a zahrál to, co ještě nikdy. Jenže tahle premiéra už reprízy nemá. Šampión pikniku vykonal své a může jít. Akčnímu umění je konec.

The suspense sets in right from the beginning. The excitement is not diminished even by the rather transparent exposition, all but giving away the resolution to come. All revolves around a picnic - the cornerstone of both genres implied in the title; its reconstruction being the very point of action art and at the same time wholly pointless in the game of football. The incredible is taking place. The fate of the former genre is decided on the home field of the latter. And it is on this field where the reflection of the heavenly picnic is so bright as to make the endlessly reprised piece shine like an unannounced first-night gala. The source of the aforementioned suspense is the joyous awe of the perfection in the making.
The descent of the ideal picnic onto the football earth does not resemble a smug whodunit. From the very first bar of this swan's song of action art, everyone knows that Panenka has done it all. The picnic reconstruction is carried out under wildly garbled orders here. No wonder then that there is not much left in its place even if the football stage is preserved. The characters, as an example, change beyond recognition. The cast, on the other hand, remains untouched. Except for the characters in the wall who, surprisingly, are later actually cast. Other than that, the troupe, all aflutter, remains loyal to our soloist and his home scene throughout the picnic oblation.
The storyline however soon transcends the template of a match. There is no way to derail the coming picnic. Those in attendance at the stadium unwittingly forget their passive lot as spectators. True, first the players themselves become spectators, but after that both the newly-made and the stand-stomping spectators are all at once transformed into different characters. Their newly-acquired picnic tic sets them miles apart from those who serve as mere props to action art performances. The latter never get to see the reconstruction of the picnic although it was promised to them under the guise of experiencing an archetypal ritual. In place of the advertised magic, they aid in bringing into the artsy world a shamelessly fake arrangement which is meant and, with much fanfare, performed not as an innocent offering but rather a direct service to the monster of documentation.
But let's leave the obsession of documentation for later. We are still at the beginning of the story. To please the sell-out crowd, Antonín Panenka goes full circle with his legendary "spinning-top" move in the half-circle on top of the box; it is this pirouette in one act which draws the erstwhile spectators into the whirlpool of the picnic. It does the same to the players on the pitch, while driving away the opposing players with its centrifugal force. Panenka would then make mere spectators of the players left in its wake if not reserving them a spot on the perimeter of his show.
In the midst of this stage-setting stunt, Panenka is mowed down in emergency by the most resilient of the defenders he had sent whirling. Nevertheless, he gets up immediately and, immersed in thought, he walks into the depths of the box. In awe, the "opposing players" back away behind the semi-circular line so as not to disturb the expected execution. One cannot, however, do away with action art this directly. The participants in Panenka's reconstruction will be spared the banality of the penalty kick. The considerate referee gives the genre, whose stages lie elsewhere, another futile chance. Its fate is to be decided here at this improbable front. Panenka is far from letting the unexpected twist in which his beloved penalty kick is awarded spoil his good mood. The action which follows first reminds us of the peeing Mr. Bloom and then gets better.
While the centrifuged parties do have an inkling that the ball will reach the net hung out there to dry, they have worse coming to them. The piece keeps transforming. Following the change of the characters into picnic guests, the cast of the opposing players is now beginning to change as well. The aforementioned characters start bearing resemblance to weary action artists who had built a wall here out of their own bodies; a wall which out of all the walls in the world most closely resembles a football wall. Players-slash-artists are rightfully giving themselves to the sinking feeling that the picnic executor will hit it over their wall and into a genre other than his own, which is to say theirs.
They are all here or at least those of them who were the most visible and outspoken: those who sacrificed the picnic on the altar of art because they wanted to turn it into art; those who sacrificed art on the altar of documentation because they only pretended to do art for documentation's sake; those who have begged for the gospel of art history for so long that in the end they have matured into recipients of an entirely different message. Now they themselves whisper it to one another down the wall.
Who exactly does the whispering in the wall? A brief roll call will now ensue as an introduction for the uninitiated and remembrance for those who actually were there.
Those whose ambition did not allow them to leave now are standing in the wall, stock still. The pulled-in spectators, on the other hand, picnic like maniacs. And small wonder, too. Antonín Panenka does what he does not hesitate to do even with play at full swing if he is not sure about the momentary status of the elements. He stops along his way toward the ball, licks his fingertip and lifts his finger to detect the direction of the wind. How much more sophisticated is the choreography of elements in reconstructing the picnic than, let us say, during the author's action-art past, when his squad in the name of the firefighting principle of land-art readiness "slid down the poles" any time the requested constellation of elements materialized on the site of the intended event.
As soon as Panenka has identified the elements, football time becomes "a stirring picture of picnic eternity." At that moment, Panenka and his faithful appear in a circle of light with everything beyond dimmed in a manner reminiscent of the Canadian ice-hockey photography of old. Let us take advantage of Panenka's raised finger and dwell a little longer in the darkened place outside the yet unlit circle of light. The eternity in its momentary presentation has not yet moved an inch. A story fit for the romantic novel; how the author himself once could not resist his attraction to Panenka.
Just before the game, the author ascended to the top of the stands behind the fateful goal; a spot which offers views as far as the training pitch under the Wienerwald. He observed Panenka, standing motionless in the only shaded corner of the parched pitch, and, striving not to break the pre-game exercise, gave him just the slightest of nods. Later he sat behind the fateful goal with no way to escape the picnic even if he wished to do so. Then it was Panenka's ball flying toward him, directly at him, growing bigger and bigger, not just optically, until it was caught in the net. That proved too much for the author who started sobbing disconsolately. It was not a lament over a pretty goal, a game winning goal at that, nor over the demise of the living corpse of action art; it was happy crying over the picnic incarnation itself and the author allowed his life's partner to console him for a considerable time...
So much for private confessions. It would seem to have brought us closer to the point than desired. Let's therefore go back to what did actually happen. We last saw Panenka posing as a picnic guru. He quickly recovers after having been fouled and now he struts around as if the god of football were not home. The reconstruction appears effortless. The usual labor of scene investigation is presented as a playful meteorological intermezzo. As soon as the intermezzo is over, all becomes clear. The picnic is here and shines unhindered. The reconstruction opens itself up to improvisation.
Panenka takes a slow running start. Even through the ensuing euphoria it is clear that this will not be your regular kick. The closer Panenka gets to the ball, the further he is from the world of competition to which he had belonged. The picnic guests rightfully perk up their attention. They will soon have proof of what they would like to dismiss as hearsay. As soon as Panenka kicks the ball, he jumps feet first into the world of art. The shadowy figures of the endangered genre, whose wreck should receive the last merciful kick here, straighten up in the wall for the last time. Panenka is right by the ball and the half-dead discipline, which should really be dying a slow death somewhere far away from here, is expecting to be put out of its misery. It is expecting Panenka's artistic floodgates to fling open.
Up to now, Panenka has seemed to be a footballer. While the finesse of his tricks, passes and goals did fascinate, he remained with both of his virtuoso feet firmly on the football earth. A happy child of the unforgiving competition. Beyond the magic, the experts have always dutifully recognized the goals and up to now have been unable to arrive at an exact count. The old calculations do not matter now. The picnic beauty of the expected goal cannot fit into a column statistics. While the irrelevant rules will still be indifferently observed, the destructive spirit of the competition is no more. The sports columnist is summarily transformed into an art critic only so that he can weep over the obituary of the genre.
Panenka in the meantime has kicked the ball and is unaware of what is in store for him should the kick be on target. There is no need to guess three times. In his own genre, which, actually, has become his former genre by now, he will be adorned and retired with a nice pension while the previously foreign genre, whose supreme stages Panenka had never visited before, will not allow the newly anointed master to take even one bow in front of the drawn curtain. It cannot be allowed. What happens to a genre which produces a flawless specimen is common knowledge. Perfection having been achieved, the genre is dissolved. The same is inevitably true for a genre that is thus perfected elsewhere. But such a genre hardly leads a honorable existence.
Panenka himself is spared certain honors. Although his ongoing kick does hit the target, he does not get to hear any applause. There is no clapping at a picnic. Not even after a goal that is a piece of art. Moreover, even veterans of frenetic applauses are paralyzed with the onslaught of joy. Action art has no one in the crowd to give the newcomer a hand. The applause is over. Not even funeral guests can make up for it. There aren't any. The genre had ousted them, in the name of the vandalizing documentation, already back when they were supposedly participating.
The ball, in the meantime, floats ominously over the crowd of action artists. They are no funeral guests either. They are at home. For the last time. And there was a bit of a funeral in all their actions. A deadly sin against the ethics of recording exacts a hefty fine. The artists in the wall are not asking whose turn it is. They can do without a prompter although they memorized a different ending to this piece so long ago. They violated their genre with misguided recording and no one needs to announce to them that capital punishment is drawing nigh. Action art has swollen into its own documentation. By design. Right from the beginning, it was supposed to achieve permanence through the documentation and that it did. All the way to the last notes of its toll sounded by the brilliant newcomer.
By comparison, football is quite thick-skinned. It is not going to allow anyone under it even if Panenka were to stand on his head. And sure enough, within the receding but not overstepped rules, Panenka is picnicking like he never has before. The game of football cannot be undermined even by the endlessly repeated clip of the chosen goal. It could do better without a clip than it could without a viewer. That's why it does not have to concern itself with its being photogenic unlike action art which, in its artificial dependence on prestigious recording, has eliminated the participation of a viewer altogether.
Panenka watches the ball quickly fly away from him and squints contentedly. The situation turned out very photogenic. Panenka can afford this kind of luxury. All of his kicks and tricks are like this. Aficionados capture them for posterity but nobody has begged them to do that. The world, and not just the football one, would not come to an end even if there were no documentation. The true meaning of Panenka's acts is tied to a picnic.
The greatest of his acts is just culminating. The ball cleared the wall and is on its unstoppable way into the goal. Just like this revolutionary kick over the heads of the obsolete self-documentarists, our tribute is also nearing its end. The reconstruction has succeeded. Not even Panenka's idol up above would need to be ashamed of his picnic. It took care of a whole genre. The homage to Antonín Panenka, enthralling till the last moment, has become an obituary of the action offshoot of visual arts to which this "virtuoso from elsewhere" has been all too good.
The ball reached its destination and Panenka cannot help a little fit of jubilation. Rightfully so. A picnic usually does not thrive under football ways. His picnic has been such a perfect success, however, that somewhere entirely different a discipline, which always claimed picnics as its own, could not survive it. All the way into its goal, Panenka kicked a piece it could never even dream of while it still had the chance.
It is only now that we can relax as the pre-election poem at the beginning promised. The circle of light has been deserted and darkened. The troupe performing the piece has been dissolved. They were supposed to play what they have played since the beginning and instead they played what they never have. But this first night has no reruns. The champion of the picnic has done his thing and can be on his way. Action art is dead.
