About me

I have worked as data analyst, mathematician, scientist, and finally engineer and entrepreneur for about 25 years, and have spoken and written French for 40 years or so.

My work over the years, both theoretical and experimental, has covered thermodynamics, hydrodynamics and aerodynamics; tribology and lubrication, heat transfer and electromagnetics; electronics, sensor design and mechanical engineering; mathematics and statistics, acoustics, noise and vibration; sonar systems. I have filed several patents and written quite a few technical papers, of which the latest (2008) is an analysis of drop formation on stalactites. I'm an engineer/ scientist/ mathematician with expertise in French rather than a linguist who has chosen something to specialise in, so I can avoid at least some of the technical banana skins which so often characterise this kind of translation. After a painful encounter with a nautical text (about which I discovered I knew very little), I now try to avoid subject areas I am not familiar with!
