More Less | Sample translations submitted: 5English to Russian: "Customizing HTML Forms in ISA Server 2006" Detailed field: Computers: Software | Source text - English When ISA Server displays an HTML form, it replaces the placeholders in the .htm files with the strings in the strings.txt file of the language specified in the language settings of the client's browser, or as specified in the Web listener. Text string customization is done by modifying the strings in the strings.txt file that correspond to the placeholders in the .htm files.
Note the following:
- Before customizing the content of the strings.txt file, we recommend that you make a backup of the strings.txt file that you are modifying.
- Any strings that you modify or add must be properly encoded to comply with HTML syntax. The "<" character cannot be included in the string and should be replaced with "<". In addition, to include a quotation mark, the single quotation mark must be used instead of the double quotation mark.
| Translation - Russian При показе HTML-формы ISA Server замещает заглушки в HTM-файлах строками из файла strings.txt, соответствующего языку, указанному в языковых настройках веб-обозревателя клиента или в веб-прослушивателе. Настройка текстовых строк совершается путем изменения строк в файле strings.txt, соответствующих нужным заглушкам в HTM-файлах.
Учтите следующее:
- прежде чем настраивать содержимое файла strings.txt, рекомендуется сделать резервную копию файла strings.txt, который будет редактироваться;
- любые редактируемые или добавляемые строки должны быть закодированы таким образом, чтобы соответствовать синтаксису HTML. Символ "<" не может содержаться в строке и должен заменяться на "<". Кроме того, для включения в строку кавычек необходимо использовать одинарную кавычку, а не двойную.
| Russian to English: "Strategies for the US/Russia Relationship: Problems and Prospects" Detailed field: Government / Politics | Source text - Russian | Translation - English Some believe that the United States is saving the Russian Federation "for dessert." Suppose so. Then, from the point of view of the West, it makes sense to "help" Russia move the regime into a COMATOSE STATE, that is, to bring about the conditions and the setting necessary for the government to lose its grip and its ability to react to "external stimuli" (humanitarian intervention). It was this kind of pathological apathy that took place under Yeltsin, and this political absence of will has not been eradicated with Putin in power: "we have no enemies, just partners;" leaving Europe we do a drunken dance (German reunification); "take what your heart desires" (the Baker-Shevardnadze Bering Strait Agreement); the sale of Power Machines to Germany’s Siemens, pushed through despite national security concerns; the deflated pricing and sale of energy resources to unfriendly countries… a case for in-patient treatment, indeed. The "patient's" derangement, in fact, came close to completely shutting down national self-consciousness. Aggressive challenges were taken with a euphoric lack of concern. The country’s semi-atrophied organs barely responded to threats. The sick organism’s reflexes resembled those of a scalded cockroach stirring his antennae in shiftless torpidity. Like a ripe cabbage-head, Russia could be pulled and turned any which way to pluck off "unneeded" feeding roots. It wasn’t allowed to die – rather to grow "freely" until late fall, saving the ripeness, to be consumed later – sort of being kept PRESERVED ALIVE to be an instant-cooked meal. | English to Russian: ProZ.com website localization into Russian Detailed field: Internet, e-Commerce | Source text - English 1. What is the Blue Board?
We'll explain in a roundabout way. First of all, any ProZ.com user can enter a number from 1 to 5 corresponding to his or her likelihood of working again (LWA) with a given outsourcer (ie. client or translation company/agency). By way of explanation, the user can also enter a line of text along with the number. In response, the outsourcer may enter a line of text of his/her/its own.
The Blue Board is the complete, searchable database of the records containing these entries and replies, along with outsourcer coordinates.
2. Glossary of Blue Board terms... Outsourcer: An umbrella term that includes agencies, companies, clients and any other entity or person that buys translation services. The Blue Board is a database of outsourcers accompanied by service provider entries. Entry: A service provider makes an "entry" to the Blue Board expressing his or her likelihood of working again with a given outsourcer. (Terms like "rating", "review", etc., are misleading and should be avoided.) LWA: Likelihood of Working Again (with a given outsourcer.) Refers to the numerical portion of an entry.

(see the full document at ProZ.com Blue Board FAQ) | Translation - Russian 1. Что такое Blue Board?

| Briefly about me | After completing secondary education in Russia, I went on a 6-year "tour" of America, attending high school in Virginia and university in South Carolina (majored in Math). This experience of a lifetime helped me expand my cultural horizons, gain an all-around education, and acquire native-level English fluency.
In 2004, I returned to my home city of Saint Petersburg, Russia. I maintain close personal and professional ties to the US and, even after all this time, I feel equally comfortable writing, translating or communicating in either Russian or English.
I specialize in English into Russian translation and editing, which provides roughly 75% of my workload. However, I also offer quality translation into English, but only in my main fields of my expertise: marketing surveys, software, videogames, and slang. For a small surcharge, my translations can be proofread by a native speaker of US/UK English as appropriate.
| Past employment |
- In-house translator with an international translation agency
- Creative writer/translator/editor with an American-owned electronic dictionary and translation software company
- Product manager with a British speech software development company
- Technical & marketing writer (authoring content in English) with a Czech-Russian software development company
- Freelance translation for American, European, Asian and Russian clients (see below).
