For retrofitting, the integral PID controller and two static pressure transmitters can be used to control supply fan capacity. Manual resetting of the duct sensor is eliminated. The additional extended PID controllers can be used for additional HVAC processes – heating or cooling valve control, damper control, etc.
Single input PID controller
A built-in controller operates independently and eliminates the need for a building automation system to maintain constant flow in systems.
A signal from a temperature, pressure, or flow transmitter connected to the drive is all that is required.
Multi-zone feedback
The drive PID controller offers unequaled flexibility by accepting up to three feedback signals with individual set-points. Multi-zone control provides improved system performance and optimisation.
Stand-alone operation
The PID controller provides variable air volume features without dependence on a building automation system. This eliminates the need for additional direct digital control and I/O modules.
Automatic Switching Frequency Modulation (ASFM)
There is no need to derate the drive output at high load. ASFM adjusts the switching frequency based on motor current demand, rather than motor speed. This ensures that the best possible switching frequency is provided, matching both performance and noise control.
De-icing
Under severe winter weather conditions, it may be necessary to reverse the cooling tower fan to remove accumulated ice from the intake louvers.

The drive monitors the V-belt on a fan, pump or compressor and gives a warning when a malfunction such as a broken belt occurs.
Motor soft start
Smooth acceleration of the pump reduces noise, peak current, thermal motor load, and mechanical stress to the hot water pump system caused by water hammer. In addition, smooth acceleration extends motor life.
High and low feedback warning
A selected high and low hot water differential pressure feedback signal monitored by the XXX® drive can indicate system problems prior to the boiler tripping off.
Metering
The local control panel of the drive can be used to display many drive or system operating variables including kWh, hours run, static duct pressure, condenser water return temperature etc.
High and low frequency warning
Useful in staging on or off additional equipment, such as pumps or fans when the motor speed is either too high or too low. A specific frequency can be set for warning and to stage external devices on or off.
Motor preheat
To extend the life of a motor in a damp environment, a small amount of current can be trickled into the motor to protect it from condensation and the effects of a cold start.

To determine the effect of dietary fish oil supplementation on myocardial dysfunction following ischemia-reperfusion, independent of plasma and blood cells, Sprague-Dawley rats were fed fish oil-rich nonpurified diet or butter-enriched diet for 5 d. Myocardial content of long-chain and (n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids was greater in the fish oil-fed rats (P < 0.01), whereas (n-6) fatty acid content was lower compared with controls (P < 0.01). Platelet aggregation in fish oil-fed rats was also inhibited. Hearts from all rats were subjected to 15 min of global ischemia and 10 min of reperfusion. In hearts of control rats, ischemia-reperfusion resulted in a marked decrease in force of cardiac contraction, increase in coronary perfusion pressure, appearance of ventricular arrhythmias and release of creatine kinase and thromboxane B2 in the coronary effluent. Dietary fish oil supplementation attenuated myocardial dysfunction induced by ischemia-reperfusion, as indicated by smaller change in force of cardiac contraction (-77% vs. -89%, P < 0.05) and coronary perfusion pressure (+37% vs. +71%, P < 0.001). Concomitantly, release of creatine kinase as well as thromboxane B2 in coronary effluent was lower (P < 0.01). Ventricular arrhythmias occurred less frequently in hearts from fish oil-fed rats. Thus, short-term dietary fish oil supplementation attenuates myocardial dysfunction caused by ischemia-reperfusion by a direct effect on the heart independent of blood and plasma components.

• Provide incentives for commuters. Free food and a year-end bonus are nice perks, but to really make workers happy, help ease their daily commute. The government rewards businesses that encourage their staff to carpool, bicycle, or walk to work under the Commuter Choice Program. Telecommuting and flexible work hours can also save employers by reducing absences and job retention costs.
• Recycle and reuse paper. Americans toss out about 35 million tons of paper each year. Buck the trend and start recycling -- not only standard white printer paper, but all of the magazines, manila folders, and colored post-it notes that decorate your space. If it tears, it can be recycled. Recycled paper manufacturing generates 74 percent less air pollution, and saves trees, water, and energy. To salvage papers that are printed on one side only, flip them over and use for incoming faxes.
• Purchase 100 percent post-consumer waste, chlorine-free paper. Take note when buying paper -- the higher the percentage of post-consumer waste, the larger the amount of recycled material is contained in the paper stock. This means that 100 percent post-consumer waste paper is made entirely from recycled products. Also, chlorine used for bleaching is one of the biggest polluters in the paper-making process. Choose non-chlorinated paper, which has the same quality as the bleached variety.
• Recycle and reuse office supplies. Do as Mom says and clean your plate, literally. Washing and reusing the plastic dishes and cutlery you get with take-away food is an easy way to cut down on waste at work. Better yet, pack your lunch in reusable containers and pocket your hard-earned dollars! Skip the paper (or worse, Styrofoam) cups and refill your travel mug at the nearby coffee shop instead. It may even get you a discount. Besides aluminum cans and glass bottles, there are many other supplies stashed in and around your desk that are recyclable, such as batteries, printer cartridges, DVDs, CDs, and more.
• Curb phantom electricity. Many appliances still consume energy even when turned off. Items left plugged into the wall, such as a cell phone charger or laptop adapter, can leak more than 20 watts of power. In the United States alone, "phantom electricity" emits roughly 12 million tons of carbon into the atmosphere. Avoid this by plugging office equipment into a power strip and turning it off at night and on weekends.

The top 10 teams of the annual competition will be rewarded with an exceptional prize at the beginning of 2009. There will also be special prizes for teams that make exceptional efforts, even if they do not make it to the top ten.

The Making of Scotch Whisky
Scotch whisky is an elemental elixir. Its constituents are the earth, the water, the fire and the air of Scotland. Its only ingredients are barley, the quintessential harvest of the earth, pure water, imbued with the fugitive minerals of the land itself, and a dash of yeast to ferment the brew. Fire malts the barley and raises the ethereal spirit in the still, and the fresh northern air, often damp and chill, permeates the casks while the spirit matures and works a magic which is still not yet fully understood by chemists.
Distilling developed as a branch of alchemy, and in truth the transmutation of the base elements of barley into the golden liquid which has won the enthusiastic support of the entire world might still be accurately considered to be an alchemical process. More so since, despite deploying the very latest chemical and technological knowledge, nobody has been able to make whisky with the same flavour characteristics as Scotch furth of Scotland.
It is not within the scope of a pocket book to dwell at length upon how whisky is made, but a short account of the processes and procedures will help the reader understand the notes which comprise the body of the book.

Lo Scotch Whisky è un elisir fatto con i quattro elementi: terra, fuoco, acqua, e l’aria di Scozia. Gli unici ingredienti che lo compongono sono l’orzo, prodotto della terra per eccellenza, acqua incontaminata in cui sono disciolti i fugaci minerali della terra stessa, ed un pizzico di lievito per favorirne la fermentazione. Il fuoco trasforma l’orzo in malto, rilasciandone lo spirito etereo nell’alambicco, mentre l’aria fresca del nord, spesso umida e gelida, impregna i barili in attesa che lo spirito maturi, dando vita a un incantesimo che i chimici ancora faticano a comprendere del tutto.
La distillazione è nata come una branca dell’alchimia, e, a ben guardare, la trasmutazione degli elementi base dell’orzo nel liquido d’oro che si è guadagnato il sostegno appassionato del mondo intero potrebbe ancora essere considerato, con una certa accuratezza, un processo alchemico. A maggior ragione se pensiamo che, nonostante l’applicazione delle più recenti conoscenze in ambito chimico e tecnologico, nessuno è ancora stato in grado di produrre whisky con le medesime proprietà aromatiche di quello originario scozzese.
Non rientra certo tra gli obiettivi di un libro tascabile quello di soffermarsi a lungo sui processi di produzione del whisky, ma un breve resoconto di tali procedure aiuterà il lettore a comprendere le note di cui è composto il corpo del libro.

I have translated a wide range of text types, from the most complex, like the presentation of new frequency converters (HVAC Drives), to the most discursive, like company letters or advertising brochures. Working on textual material from a variety of companies - including Danfoss, Husqvarna, Asecos, Planon, ABBYY, Extrusion Eurasia, and others - I have accumulated experience in technical translations, ranging from IT-related texts to technical manuals, and more. Some of my recent projects include:
• the description of fire resistant safety cabinets;
• a brochure regarding Mobile Food Service, and the compressors that allow to keep the cold chain unbroken during transportation;
• the presentation of portable printers for Bluetooth-enabled devices for printing on-the-go;
• a software quick start guide for OCR scanners;
• various sections of operator's manuals for different types of machines, including riding mowers, floor saws and wall saws;
• an introduction sheet of a binder containing information on the company's solar inverters, along with manuals and quick guides for their monitoring products;
• several sections of a technical manual for a power unit specially developed to be used with its companion electric wall saw;
• the translation of a detailed product specification sheet describing the operating procedures of a gas leak detector;
• five scientific papers investigating the beneficial, cardio-protective effects of dietary fish oil supplementation.
Education
2006-2007 Masters degree in Translation Studies at the Centre for Translation and Comparative Cultural Studies, University of Warwick. Awards: awarded the Centre's MA Bursary for UK and European Students. Overall degree mark: Distinction.
2005-2006 EU Socrates/Erasmus programme at the University of Warwick.
2003-2006 BA Translators and Interpreters at the Università degli Studi di Messina. Awards:
• awarded EU Socrates/Erasmus scholarship;
• awarded the Supplementary Grant for International Student Mobility.
Compulsory placement: 200 hours of successful linguistic mediation for international visitors of the Treasure of the Cathedral of Messina. Overall degree mark: 110/110 cum laude (First-Class Honours).
