Um zu verstehen, wie Thin-Client/Server-Systeme tatsächlich funktionieren, müssen Sie beim Server-Teil des Thin-Client/Server-Systems anfangen. Denn bei unserer Methode werden alle Anwendungen und Daten hier eingerichtet, verwaltet und unterstützt. Ausserdem werden sie komplett auf dem Server ausgeführt.
Das Thin-Client/Server-Konzept erfordert ein Multi-User-Betriebssystem. Damit können sich mehrere Benutzer gleichzeitig in getrennten, geschützten Sitzungen beim selben Server anmelden und Anwendungen starten. Für Thin-Client/Server-Systeme ist außerdem ein Ferndarstellungs-Serviceprotokoll erforderlich, das die Anwendungslogik von der Benutzerschnittstelle trennt, wodurch nur Tastendruck, Mausklick und Bildschirmaktualisierung über das Netz übermittelt werden.
Software
Öffnen Sie das Dialogfeld Netzwerk, indem Sie auf Start klicken, auf Einstellungen zeigen, auf Systemsteuerung klicken und dann auf Netzwerk doppelklicken. Wählen Sie hier die Registerkarte Einstellungen.
Im Pull-Down-Menü wird Primäre Netzwerkanmeldung angezeigt, welches Netzwerk Ihre Anmeldung prüft, so daß Sie im Netzwerk arbeiten können.
Wenn Sie auf Windows-Anmeldung klicken, werden Sie bei Windows 98 angemeldet, wobei Sie keine Fehlermeldung erhalten, wenn keine Netzwerkverbindung hergestellt werden kann (weil z.B. das Netzwerk heruntergefahren ist oder Sie ein falsches Kennwort eingegeben haben). Verwenden Sie die Option auch, wenn der Computer nicht mit einem Netzwerk verbunden ist (z.B. wenn Sie unterwegs mit einem tragbaren Computer arbeiten).

How does a thin-client /server system work?
To really understand, how a thin-client/server system works, you must start with the server part of the thin-client/server system. With our method, all applications and data are installed, managed and supported. These are being fully carried out by the server.
The concept of the thin-client/server requires a multi-user business system. With the multi-user business system more users are able to log on to the server at the same time for separate, protected sessions and run applications. A remote presentation service protocol is necessary for the thin-client/server system, in order to isolate the application logic from the user interface and allow only key presses, mouse clicks and screen updates to be transmitted over the network.
Software
Open the dialog box Network by clicking on Start, point on Settings, click on Control Panel and then double click on Network. Choose the tab Settings.
In the drop-down (pull-down) menu, the primary network login shows which network is responsible for checking your log in, to enable you to use the network.
If you click on Windows-login, you will be logged in Windows 98, where you will not receive any error messages if a network connection cannot be established (e.g. because the network has been shut down or you entered a wrong password). Use this option also, if the computer is not connected to a network (e.g. if you on the go working with a laptop).
