An emerging body of multidisciplinary literature has documented the beneficial influence of physical activity engendered through aerobic exercise on selective aspects of brain function. Human and non-human animal studies have shown that aerobic exercise can improve a number of aspects of cognition and performance. Lack of physical activity, particularly among children in the developed world, is one of the major causes of obesity. Exercise might not only help to improve their physical health, but might also improve their academic performance. This article examines the positive effects of aerobic physical activity on cognition and brain function, at the molecular, cellular, systems and behavioural levels. A growing number of studies support the idea that physical exercise is a lifestyle factor that might lead to increased physical and mental health throughout life.
Participation in physical activity has been associated witht the reduction of a number of physical (for example, cardiovascular disease, colon and breast cancer, and obesity) and mental (for example, depression and anxiety) disorders across the adult lifespan.
Recent evidence futher indicates that children are growing increasingly sedentary and unfit, and that these lifestyle factors are related to an earlier onset of several chronic diseases (such as type II diabetes and obesity). | Translation - Italian
Un numero crescente di pubblicazioni a carattere multidisciplinare ha documentato l'influenza positiva dell'attività fisica mediante esercizio aerobico su alcuni aspetti selettivi dell’attività cerebrale.
Studi condotti su animali ed esseri umani hanno dimostrato che l’esercizio aerobico può migliorare diversi aspetti dell'apprendimento e del rendimento. La mancanza di attività fisica, in modo particolare tra i bambini dei paesi sviluppati, è una delle principali cause di obesità. L’esercizio non solo aiuta a migliorare la salute fisica, ma migliorerebbe anche il rendimento scolastico.
Questo articolo esamina gli effetti positivi dell'attività fisica aerobica sull’apprendimento e la funzionalità cerebrale, a livello molecolare, cellulare, sistemico e comportamentale.
Un numero sempre più consistente di studi sostiene l'idea che l’esercizio fisico è un’abitudine che condurrebbe ad una migliore salute fisico-mentale durante l’intero arco della vita.
La partecipazione all’attività fisica è stata associata alla riduzione di alcuni disturbi fisici (per esempio, malattie cardiovascolari, cancro al seno e al colon e obesità) e mentali (per esempio, depressione e ansia) durante l’arco di vita di un adulto.
Uno studio recente ha inoltre indicato che i bambini stanno crescendo sempre più sedentari e fuori forma, e che tali fattori legati allo stile di vita sono correlati ad una precoce manifestazione da parte di diverse malattie croniche (come il diabete di tipo II e l'obesità), le quali non emergono tipicamente prima dell’età adulta.

My job is first of all a strong passion and love for foreign cultures and languages....This has enabled me to enrich my life and my spirit. One of my best hobby is, namely, reading novels in foreign languages because in this way I feel I can catch the real and true sense of a novel, a short story or a poem. Translating comes as an activity to build bridges among different cultures, it stands as a big, often concealed voice which always strives to bring two cultures near.
I think this is one of the most beautiful and worthy job and I am engaged in this "biblical venture" to help this process going on.
