| Translation - English Organ transplant is a therapeutic alternative that offers patients more quantity and quality of life. However, it must be taken into account that not all patients attain better physical, psychological, and social well-being. For example, in an investigation carried out with liver transplant patients, it was found that 60% of the patients considered that their life had not gone back to normal after transplant, mainly because of diverse physical and psychological problems: secondary effects of medication, fatigue, gastrointestinal problems, osteoporosis, and depression. | Translation - English According to the constructivist theoretical framework, children learn to solve arithmetic problems by elaborating cognitive strategies in an active and informal way, at early developmental stages. The degree of task abstraction might be an important facilitating factor to solve arithmetic problems. We assume that children first learn at a concrete level, so as to subsequently develop their mathematical efficacy at more abstract and complex levels. Although there are many investigations on arithmetic problems in general, and, more specifically, on the semantic structure, the degree of difficulty, the developmental level, the strategies used, and the mistakes made by students, there is a remarkable shortage of studies that directly address the degree of abstraction of such problems and its incidence in student’s mathematical achievement. | Translation - English The self-determination theory upholds that the social context surrounding sportspeople and, particularly, the motivational climate created by the coach, can affect their level of intrinsic motivation and enjoyment. Specifically, it is postulated that the motivational climate created by the coach is related to sportspeople’s motivation via the satisfaction of their basic psychological needs of competence, autonomy, and relatedness. |

Native language: English (born in USA). Second language: Spanish. I have lived in Spain for over 40 years, and studied Psychology in Spain. After my licentiate studies, I won a 4-year pre-doctoral scholarship in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. I received my Ph.D. in 1994.
Ph.D. in Psychology, specialty: Clinical Psychology. About 8 years experience as a clinical psychologist. I have also elaborated and taught several pre-doctoral courses on Stress Management.
Experience in translation/interpreting:
I worked for 6 years for The Spanish Journal of Psychology (Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Facultad de Psicología). My main obligation was to turn the articles we received into readable and correct English. I was also responsible for helping to edit the articles and to prepare the finished articles for the press.
As of 2002: freelance translator, specializing in Psychology texts (mainly Psychology articles, written in Spanish, to be presented for publication in journals that publish in English). I currently translate many of the articles published in The Spanish Journal of Psychology, and edit practically all of them. I also proof-read the abstracts in English for the journal Psicothema. I have translated articles for University professors from at least 16 Spanish universities, from the areas of Clinical Psychology, Social Psychology, Work Psychology, Developmental and Educational Psychology, Juridical Psychology, etc.; many of the Professors are returning clients. Some of the articles translated by me have been published in the International J. of Clinical and Health Psychology, J. of Adolescent Health, J. of Vocational Behavior, Psicothema, and International J. of Psychology, among other journals.
I have also interpreted for visiting professors at several Psychology conferences, meetings, etc. (English to Spanish and Spanish to English).
One of my other main interests is taijiquan. I am a taijiquan teacher in Madrid. I have also acted as interpreter at several workshops of taijiquan (English to Spanish and vice versa). | This user has reported completing projects in the following job categories, language pairs, and fields.
