About me
More than 10 years ago I was offered a unique opportunity to study in the US. Facing another culture truly was a challenge for me. I realized that knowing another language is not enough for a successful communication. Thus, when interpreting for a non-native speaker, I always try to keep in mind the different cultural setting that the person might come from. For more than 7 years I have worked at one of the major refineries and interacted with managers and specialists from all over the world, including the US, Great Britain, Latin America, Poland, etc. I interpreted and also discussed the subject with them, pondering at times, if I had just assumed the role of a professional of the referred area, i.e. a safety specialist or an IT consultant. Such practical experience contributes to the quality of my written translations as well. I do hope that my experience and knowledge will be of some benefit to your team. Thank you for this great opportunity.
I also wish to add about one of the major personal achievements when working at the oil refinery. For interpreting important meetings, especially in emergency situations due to a major operational failure or fatal accident, the top executive (who is a US citizen and understands a little bit of Lithuanian) would always contact me. Sitting next to the speaker and following absolutely every word he said allowed me to deliver high precision interpretation to his staff, contractors and managers of the refinery.
In addition, I have some teaching experience. I taught English to the students specializing in technical sciences at the Technological University. It was a very interesting project as I had to prepare the teaching material to the students who were almost my age or older. At that time I studied at the university where, following the American style, a more flexible curriculum was introduced and a few professors from the US presented new methods of teaching. It was my ambition to 'try out' these methods in my classes, too.
My recent experience is translating articles (from English) on the EU economy and other industry-related articles, including technology, real estate, health care, transportation, energy, consumers, etc. for the news agency.
