Pour enrayer la mélancolie, l'optimisme ne suffit pas
Il est incroyable que les habitants de pays en guerre soient plus optimistes que les Français comme le montrent toutes les études publiées et reprises à l’envi depuis trois mois, sauf à croire que l’idéologie rende plus heureux à l’étranger qu’en France.
Car chez nous à droite comme à gauche, qu’on soit pour l’entrepreneur ou pour l’entreprise (façon schématique d’opposer le moteur de la réussite individuelle à celui du renforcement du tissu social et humain, assez pratiquée par nos hommes politiques), on vit la même sinistrose. Nos voisins et nos alliés du monde occidental s’interrogent sur notre compte bien plus que sur nos comptes. Et rien n’y fait : comme tout bon déprimé, nous broyons du noir quoiqu’il arrive. Quand ça frémit, ça ne veut rien dire, et quand ça stagne, c’est le plongeon tant annoncé. Il y a des jours on ne sait même pas pourquoi on se lève, sinon pour contempler les effets de cette spirale mélancolique. Alors quoi, que faire comment sortir de notre état dépressif, la médication est trop chère, l’électrochoc n’est plus de mode et de toute façon le patient ne le supporterait pas.
Nous vous proposons de venir en trouver des solutions ou débattre de celles qui existent, au moins pour notre filière, lors du Colloque Pap’Argus qui se tiendra le 19 septembre prochain à Paris. Une journée d’échanges qui aura pour thème, on ne peut pas mieux faire : « Les opportunités de la mutation ».
Car oui, nous croyons, tout comme vous, que l’époque peut aussi être propice à une évolution réussie. Le monde change, la filière papier-carton aussi. Certes nos marchés ne progressent pas tous, loin sans faut, mais l’imprimé publicitaire est toujours le troisième média le plus utilisé par les marques (19 millions de prospectus distribués l’an dernier) ; l’information Internet se prend au jeu du papier ; le packaging carton plat apporte de plus en plus de valeur ajoutée à l’emballage de luxe ; l’ondulé retrouve des couleurs avec la vente à distance, et les vieux papiers sont de plus en plus recherchés...
Bref pour reprendre du poil de la bête, enrayer notre mélancolie, l’optimisme ne suffit pas, il faut conduire le changement et non le subir. Soyons clairs, personne ne nous y a préparés, mais c’est notre seule véritable chance et nous devons la saisir.

In getting through the gloom, optimism is not enough
It is unbelievable that the inhabitants of countries at war can be more optimistic than the French, as has recently been revealed in a number of surveys published and regurgitated in the last three months, unless ideology makes people happier in other countries than in France.
Because here, whether on the right or the left, whether one is for the entrepreneur or for the enterprise (a schematic way of opposing the driving force of individual success against that of the strengthening of the social and human fabric, as often practiced by our politicians), we are all experiencing the same pessimism. Our neighbors and our allies in the West are worried about us. And nothing can be done: Like any serious depressive we continue to feel blue no matter what happens. When something starts stirring, it really doesn’t mean anything, and when nothing happens, it is the start of the long awaited collapse. Some days we even have to wonder why we get up, unless it was just to watch the effects of this miserable spiral. So what can we do to get ourselves out of this state, the medication is too expensive, electroshock treatment is out of fashion and in any case the patient is in no condition to survive it.
We can offer you an opportunity to find solutions or debate those that exist, if only for our own industry, during the Pap’Argus Symposium that will take place on September 19 in Paris. A day for debate and discussion around the theme of, and what could be better: “The opportunities of change”.
And yes, just like you, we do believe that good things can come out of these difficult times. The world is changing and taking the paper-board industry with it. And whilst many of our markets are no longer, at best, growing, printed advertising material remains the #3 media for brands (19 million circulars distributed last year); there is a symbiosis between the Internet and paper; carton board packaging contributes increasing added value to luxury packaging; corrugated board is finding renewed vigor thanks to home shopping, and waste papers are increasingly sought after...
In short, to get back in the saddle and overcome our despondency, optimism alone is not enough, we need to manage the change and not just suffer it. Clearly we have not been prepared for this but it is our only real chance and we need to grasp it.
