El 01 de enero del año 2010, Canadá, Estados Unidos y México podrían reemplazar sus monedas nacionales por una nueva divisa: el ‘Amero’.
Según Wikipedia, “”ese mismo día todos los billetes y monedas denominadas en dólares de los EE.UU. se cambiarán a razón de uno a uno por un amero (A). Canadá y México cambiarán sus respectivas monedas, el dólar canadiense y el peso mexicano, a un tipo de cambio que deje inalteradas la competitividad y riqueza de ambas naciones. En los tres países los precios de los bienes y servicios, salarios, inversiones y pasivos, serán convertidos simultáneamente a Ameros, al mismo tipo de cambio con el que se convirtieron las respectivas monedas nacionales””.
Entonces habrá nacido la Unión Monetaria de América del Norte, sustentada en el Amero, una divisa hipotética propuesta para una unión monetaria en las naciones de la parte norte de América, idea basada en la moneda de la Unión Europea, el euro. Algunos especialistas que conocieron de este plan, le llamaron el TLC-Ultra, otros le llaman el Súper-NAFTA y la idea es estructurar una especie de versión americana de la Unión Europea.
Este plan fue al asunto clave que se protocolizó en la reunión que en Marzo de 2005 tuvo lugar en la Universidad de Baylor, en Waco, Texas (EEUU), entre los presidentes George Bush (USA), Vicente Fox (México) y el primer ministro canadiense Paul Martin… a espaldas de los Parlamentos de sus respectivos países. El candidato republicano John McCain ya lo aprobó...¿y qué opinará el otro candidato a la presidencia norteamericana, Barak Obama? Nada se le ha escuchado decir al respecto.
EEUU, Canadá y México firmaron secretamente el documento con el cual pretenden instaurar una moneda común, previa destrucción del dólar en una crisis del sistema económico americano, evento este último que serviría para justificar la operación ante la opinión pública estadounidense. Pero, la moneda común sería sólo una parte de esa “unión” entre los tres países. Ella también se extendería a todo lo que la frase “defensa de intereses comunes en el mundo” pueda englobar. Por supuesto, ni qué decir que el nuevo “ente” estaría dirigido por empresas y ‘trusts’ estadounidenses, ya que en este asunto los gobiernos y parlamentos están al margen y sólo actuarían como avales del acuerdo.
El euro entró en circulación en Europa el año 2001, y muchos economistas aseguran que esa moneda ha logrado que los precios de artículos y tecnologías aumenten, mientras los sueldos se han mantenido con escasas variaciones positivas. Es lo que podría suceder en México si entra en vigor el Amero, pero la diferencia es que al no haber en América del Norte un gobierno central, como lo hay en Europa, será México (la economía más débil del triunvirato) el país que tendrá que luchar en solitario y sin dinero contra una inflación desmesurada.
La idea gruesa respecto del Amero, expresada ya por algunos relevantes hombres públicos de la economía norteamericana, apunta a unir ejércitos, policías y economías de los tres países, a la vez que abrir completamente las fronteras al comercio y al tránsito…pero todo ello controlado desde Washington. Por lo tanto, lo anterior no tiene la misma conformación que la Unión Europea, donde cada quién posee identidad y capacidad de decisiones propias y colectivas en beneficio de toda la comunidad, asunto que no sucederá con la NUA (North American Union).
La Historia muestra y enseña que Estados Unidos siempre ha sacado ventajas superiores y totalitarias de sus negociaciones y tratados con otros países. ¿Habría en México mejores salarios?, ¿aumentaría el nivel de vida de los mexicanos?, ¿se estrecharía la brecha entre la economía mexicana y la estadounidense?
EL DÓLAR EN PROBLEMAS
No cabe duda que el dólar norteamericano se encuentra con enfermedad terminal, pues Estados Unidos se ha convertido en el país con mayor deuda interna del planeta. La deuda pública y privada de esa nación representa el 50% de toda la deuda mundial, lo que da una imagen de cuán gigantesco es su problema, pues el país de George Bush, sin dudas, es hoy el mayor deudor del mundo. Si el dólar sigue perdiendo su valor, el oro volverá a ser el refugio para garantizar las transacciones.
Hace pocos meses, una nueva amenaza se dejó caer sobre la economía norteamericana. Algunos países productores de petróleo determinaron cambiar gran parte de sus depósitos internacionales a euros y realizar sus transacciones con esa misma moneda. Pero, según los informes de organismos independientes, la cantidad de euros disponible no daría abasto para atender a todos quienes lo soliciten. Unos 100 trillones de dólares estadounidenses circulan por el mundo, en tanto la impresión de Euros no sobrepasa el 20% de esa cantidad. El oro, entonces, parece ser el puerto más seguro para garantizar las transacciones, según la visión de los economistas.
Los mandamases norteamericanos no se confunden ni engañan. Saben que el dólar viene en baja desde antes del inicio de la crisis ‘subprime’, superado por el euro en el mercado cambiario y amenazado fuertemente por las monedas de China, India y Brasil, países cuyas emergentes economías muestran crecimientos notables.
Durante algunos meses, los economistas de Washington se esmeraron en promover el acuerdo poniendo como ejemplo a España y la Unión Europea, asegurando que antes de entrar en vigencia el euro, España poseía una economía en decadencia. Ello es falso. Antes de ponerse en práctica la moneda europea, España ya se ubicaba como la novena economía del planeta.
Otro argumento esgrimido por los gobernantes yanquis apunta a que con el Amero se frenaría la inmigración ilegal desde México y Centroamérica, asunto por cierto de dudosa concreción, pues al fortalecerse la complicada y crítica economía estadounidense a través de los aportes canadienses y mexicanos, el mayor volumen de nuevas inversiones se asentaría en el país de Lincoln preferentemente.
Estudios independientes –franceses e italianos- pronostican para USA y Canadá un crecimiento superior al 06% anual si el Amero entra en funcionamiento, mientras que en México tal crecimiento (los primeros 10 años) estaría por debajo del 03% ya que el país de Villa y Zapata no podría competir en igualdad de condiciones, habida consideración de poseer una estructura industrial y tecnológica dependiente de sus futuros socios.
No obstante, resulta obvio entender que luego de uno o más quinquenios de aplicación del acuerdo, México obtendría un crecimiento nada desdeñable, muy superior al que muestra en la actualidad, pero siempre inferior al que se agenciarían sus socios norteños.
En las conversaciones sostenidas el año 2001 en la texana Universidad de Baylor, los tres mandatarios firmantes sugirieron hacer extensivo el acuerdo a América Latina una vez que el Amero se hubiese consolidado en el norte del continente. Some specialists that know of this plan have called it the Ultra-TLC, others call it the Super-NAFTA and the idea is to structure a kind of American version of the European Union.
This plan was the key item on the agenda at the reunion that took place in March of 2005 at Baylor University in Waco, Texas (U.S.), between presidents George Bush (USA), Vicente Fox (Mexico) and the Canadian Prime Minister, Paul Martin...behind the backs of the parliaments of their respective countries. The republican candidate John McCain has already given it his approval...And what does the other American presidential candidate, Barak Obama, think about it? Nothing has been heard from him in this respect.
The USA, Canada and Mexico secretly signed the document in which they intend to establish a common currency, following the destruction of the dollar in a crisis of the American economic system, this last event serving to justify the operation before US public opinion. The central idea with respect to the Amero, expressed by some relevant public authorities on the American economy, aims to unite the armies, police and economies of the three countries, while completely opening the borders to commerce and transit...but all of it controlled by Washington. For that reason, the aforementioned doesn't have the same structure as the European Union, where each each one has identity and capacity to make their own decisions as well as collectively for the benefit of the whole community, something that will not happen with the NAU (North American Union).
History shows and demonstrates that the United States has always taken superior and totalitarian advantage over other countries. Would there be better salaries in Mexico? Would the standard of living be raised for Mexicans? Would the gap between the US and Mexican economies be narrowed?
THE DOLLAR IN TROUBLE
There's no question that the US dollar is suffering terminal illness, now that the United States has become the nation with the greatest debt on the planet. Public and private debt for that country represents 50% of the entire world debt, which gives you a picture of the enormity of its problem; George Bush's country is, without a doubt, the major debtor in the world. If the dollar continues to lose its value, gold will once again be the refuge to guarantee transactions.
A few months ago a new threat fell over the North American economy. Some oil-producing countries decided to exchange a great part of their international deposits for euros and to conduct their transactions in that same currency. But, according to reports from independent bodies, the amount of available euros would not suffice to attend all those who would request it. Some 100 trillion US dollars circulate throughout the world, whereas the sum of Euros printed does not exceed 20% of that amount. Gold, therefore, seems to be the safest port to guarantee transactions, according to the vision of the economists.
The American honchos neither confuse nor fool themselves. They've known the dollar was going down since before the "sub-prime" crisis, surpassed by the euro on the exchange market and seriously threatened by the currencies of China, India and Brazil, countries whose emerging economies display notable growth.
For several months Washington economists took great pains to promote the agreement using the example of Spain and the European Union, assuring that before the euro came into effect, Spain had a decadent economy. That is false. Before the European currency was put into practice, Spain had already asserted itself as the nineth economy on the planet.
Another argument used by yankee leaders points out that the Amero would stop illegal immigration from Mexico and Central America, a dubius assumption indeed, for by strengthening the critically complicated US economy through the contributions of the Canadians and the Mexicans, the major volume of new investments would preferably be made in the land of Lincoln.
Independent studies-French and Italian-forecast better than 6% annual growth for the US and Canada if the Amero goes into effect, while in Mexico such growth (for the first 10 years) would be less than 3% since the land of Villa and Zapata could not compete under equal conditions, considering that it possesses an industrial and technological structure dependent on its future partners.
Notwithstanding, it goes without saying that after one or more quinquennials from the application of the agreement, Mexico would obtain a significant growth, far superior to its present development, but still inferior to that procured by its northern neighbors.
In the conversations held at Baylord University, Texas in 2001, the three signing heads of state suggested extending the agreement to all of Latin America once the Amero was consolidated in the northern part of the continent. The underlying intention aims to prevent that, specifically and principally, South America should decide to structure supernational organizations similar to the European Union, which would definitely imply a grave danger for the signers of Waco, since the Spanish-speaking countries of the sub-continent could become the third or fourth economy on the planet, if they manage to reach a consensus, at last, of the political will to grow united.
Compared to the -successful- commercial unions of Europe and Asia, except for the one under construction in North America, the Latin American nations remain disintegrated to the benefit of others, by means of putting into play economic and political interests managed by industrialized countries that maximize their efforts to prevent the birth of a powerful economy, such as the one that could very well result from our unity.

Estamos hablando de la coleccion de X-Files 'Essentials', la cual contiene ocho episodios en dos discos. Estos episodios han sido seleccionados personalmente por Chris Carter, creador del programa, y Frank Spotnitz, el productor ejecutivo. Por cierto, el primer episodio es un Piloto.
"Creo que la serie es esencial por obvias razones. Ya que te introduce a los personajes y conceptos del programa. Eso es exactamente nuestro objetivo. Aunque el programa al paso de los años fue requiriendo mayor sofisticacion, es importante ver cuales son sus raices."
Estuve hablando con Frank Spotnitz, el cual tuvo un excelente punto a favor en comparacion con otros programas que al final terminan con algo muy distinto a sus programas pilotos, ya que los programas pilotos de X-Files fijaron el mismo tono que utilizaron para la serie completa.
"Creo que asi es. Y, como yo dije, creo que ha sido mejor y mejor de lo que hicimos al principio. La relacion de Mulder y Scully fue desarrollandose ahi y continuo durante los siguientes nueve años."
¿Cuales fueron algunas de las influencias que permitieron la creacion del programa?
"Otra influencia fue, por supuesto, The Twilight Zone", "The Outer Limits", "Night Gallery", las cosas escalofriantes de "Alfred Hitchcock Presents". What were some of the influences that allowed for the program's creation?
"Another influence was, of course, "The Twilight Zone", "The Outer Limits", "Night Gallery", the hair-raising stuff from "Alfred Hitchcock Presents". This is what I used to dream about when I was a kid and it's precisely what I love, but the difference with the X-Files is that they weren't 'series'. They were anthologies. Frecuently, they dealt with the unknown and with technology. The best part is that the stories were feasible, or they were on what I'd call the extreme limit of the possible. Those were the most chilling for me."
The final episode in the set is "Miracle".
"Sean Penn approached me at a party; I didn't know him. He told me that it was one of the best things he'd ever seen on television. I think it's a beautiful scene because we were able to do something that all of us really wanted, the writers as well as the viewers. We had to make a loving tribute to the beauty and the kindness of Gillian Anderson and her character, Scully. It was the opportunity to do it with a florid purple prose through this writer. And it was also an opportunity to tell a terrifying story in a different way."
What's essential about the collection?
"First of all, that there are only 8 really long and really good episodes. There are shining omissions. 'Home' is missing. 'Humbug' isn't there. There are alot of episodes we could have included. But we thought of that so that a non-viewer could appreciate that were were making a new film, that these episodes really demonstrate the range of stories that the X-Files can tell."
The fact that the set isn't based on mythological episodes seems interesting to me .
"The movie isn't a mythological story, that's why it isn't essential to have knowledge about mythology to enjoy the movie. However,you do need to have an idea about the characters, like Mulder and Scully, and what they've been like throughout the story, and we hope to show that during the movie. But this is really a beginning for people, since it gives them a quick introduction to the movie, so this is going to offer them eight hours of entertainment. De unos años para acá, el término "cocina mexicana contemporánea "nos parece cada vez más frecuente. Este concepto, complejo a la vista pero obvio para el paladar, es la forma en la que el mundo de la cocina expresa la fusión de las recetas tradicionales de nuestro país con las influencias de estilos e ingredientes internacionales, que el tiempo y la globalización se han encargado de llevar a nuestras mesas.
Así, al paso de los años y gracias a que ahora las distancias son más cortas, carnes como la del pato han sustituido al guajolote para acompañar al clásico mole negro, dando como resultado un platillo con un sabor más suave y refinado, pero que permanece fiel a sus raíces.
Martha Ortiz y su hija se iniciaron en esta aventura culinaria hace unos años, cuando inauguraron Águila y Sol en Polanco, y ahora gozan del reconocimiento general, pues en poco tiempo lograron colocar su restaurante entre los mejores exponentes de este concepto. En su menú hay innovaciones hasta en los postres, el pan de elote azul con salsa mística de manzanilla es una agradable prueba de ello.
Otra gran exponente de esta ola es la chef Mónica Patiño, quien lleva lo contemporáneo hasta en la decoración de su sofisticado restaurante Naos -ubicado en avenida Palmas-, donde el lujo no es un pretexto para que la comida pierda ese toque casero que siempre conquista.
Para nada se queda atrás el Izote de Patricia Quintana, dueño de una carta que ella misma define como "cocina mexicana contemporánea de autor", en la que se mezclan elementos prehispánicos con recetas regionales y elementos internacionales que parecían imposibles de fusionar hasta que esta afamada chef corrió el riesgo de hacerlo, y vaya que obtuvo buenos resultados: el Venado al mole amarillo estilo Tehuantepec, los Camarones al mole de tamarindo o el Lechón al pibil son grandes ejemplos que, además, hacen que se nos haga agua la boca. Y ya para completar, el minimalismo del lugar, adornado con algunas grecas mayas, son, quizá, la mejor forma de explicar visualmente de qué se trata este "género culinario".
La comida refleja gran parte del estilo de vida de una sociedad y, gracias a la llegada de productos e ideas que no correspondían a nuestra ubicación geográfica, podemos diversificarnos y experimentar sabores que enriquecen nuestra herencia cultural, la hacen más amplia y, por qué no, mucho más rica.

For some years now, we see the term "contemporary Mexican cuisine" more and more frequently. This concept, complex to the sight but obvious to the palate, is the way that the culinary world expresses the fusion of our country's traditional recipes with the influence of international styles and ingredients, which time and globalization have managed to bring to our tables.
Thus, with the passing of time and thanks to distances being shorter today, meats such as duck have substituted turkey to accompany our classic "mole negro", resulting in a dish with a softer and more refined taste, yet remaining true to its roots.
Martha Ortiz and her daughter started this culinary adventure several years ago, when they inaugurated "Águila y Sol" in Polanco, and now enjoy universal acknowledgement, for they managed to place their restaurant among the finest examples of the concept in a very short time. Their menu includes innovations even in its desserts; the blue corn bread with mystic manzanilla sauce being pleasant proof thereof.
Another great exponent of this trend is chef Monica Patiño, who infuses the contemporary even in the decoration of her sophisticated restaurant "Naos"-located on Avenida Palmas-, where luxury is no pretext for losing that homemade touch which always conquers.
On equal footing is Patricia Quintana's "Izote", owner of a meñu which she herself defines as "signature contemporary Mexican cuisine," in which prehistoric ingredients are blended with regional recipes and international elements that seemed impossible to fuse until this renowned chef ran the risk of doing it, and did she ever obtain good results: the Venison in yellow mole sauce-Tehuantepec style, the Tamarind mole Shrimp or the "Lechon al Pibil"(Suckling pig in Pibil sauce) are great examples that, in addition, make our mouths water. And finally, the minimalism of the place, adorned with certain mayan patterns, which are, perhaps, the best way to visually explain what this "culinary genre" is all about.
Food reflects a great part of a society's lifestyle and, thanks to the arrival of products and ideas that don't correspond to our geographical location, we are able to diversify and discover flavors that enrich our cultural heritage, make it broader and, indeed, far richer.

Asi como se ha mencionado en diversos foros, existe la necesidad de implementar y fomentar el uso de la tecnologia en el ambito empresarial y educativo para ser un país mas competitivo. Sin duda, una herramienta que es de alta utilidad y beneficio para las empresas y el sector academico es el e-Learning. Por definición, e-Learning se entiende como la capacitatión no presencial que, atraves de plataformas de tecnologias, posibilita y flexibiliza el acceso y el tiempo en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje.
Desde la perspectiva de su concepción y desarrollo como herramienta formativa, los sistemas de e-Learning tienen una dualidad pedagógica y tecnológica . Pedagógica en cuanto a que debe ser transmitida de acuerdo a unos modelos y patrones definidos, y tecnológica en cuanto a que todo el proceso de eneñanza-aprendizaje se sustenta en aplicaciones software, principalmente desarrolladas en ambientes Web, lo que le vale a estos sistemas el sobrenombre de plataformas de formación.
Se tienen principalmente dos tipos de plataformas: las que se utilizan para impartir y dar seguimiento administrativo a los cursos en linea o LMS (Learning Management Systems) y, por otro lado, las que se utilizan para la gestión de contenidos digitales o LCMS (Learning Content Management Systems), el mas usual es el LMS.
Un LMS es un software basado en un servidor Web que provée módulos para los procesos administrativos y de seguimiento que se requieren para un sistema de enseñanza, simplificando el control de éstas tareas. Tambien facilitan el aprendizaje distribuido y colaborativo a partir de actividades y contenidos, utilizando los servicios de comunicación de Internet como el correo electrónico, los foros, las videoconferencias o el chat.
Los sistemas que promueven los procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje a traves de e-Learning tienen una gran importancia para consolidar la denominada "Sociedad del Conocimiento". Estos medios abren la puerta de la formación basica o avanzada a una importante cantidad de personas, que puede ver mejorada su cualificación personal o su situación profesional. No obstante, el e-Learning en Mexico esta en sus fases iniciales y le falta un largo camino por recorrer para alcanzar su madurez y consolidación. En este camino se presentan interesantes retos y lineas de investigación en el campo pedagógico y en el campo tecnológico.
Tampoco se puede ignorar el factor humano, que se convierte el la pieza más importante cuando se quiere acometer una estrategia basada en la e-formación; sin su aceptación, compromiso y entrega es imposible que el e-learning triunfe en una organización.
Una solucion e-Learning esta conformada por tres elementos fundamentales: plataforma, contenidos y herramientas comunicativas, y los costos pueden ser muy variados, debido a que existen diversas necesidades especificas. Por otro lado, la calidad de los contenidos supone una condición necesaria, aunque no suficiente, para el exito del programa formativo. El diseño de los contenidos debe de ser realizados, conforme a normas, por expertos en metodología didáctica con el objetivo de que respondan a: adecuación a las necesidades, interactividad, estructura adecuada para su correcta asimilación, accesibilidad, independiente de la plataforma en que esten los contenidos. Asimismo, deben responder a: interoperabilidad, reusabilidad, y durabilidad.
Actualmente, hay diversos estandares utilizados, como el AICC desarrollado por la industria de la aviación de Estados Unidos, el IEEE LTSC, del Instituto de Ingenieros Electronicos e Informáticos, el IMS del Global Learning Consortium, y el más utilizado y extendido, SCORM, del cual se puede obtener mucha información gratuíta en la Web.
Cada vez mas se habla de las posiblidades que ofrece el apendizaje informal al interior de las organizaciones, sin embargo, no es tan cierto que se conosca el modo de fomentar conscientemente el aprendizaje informal en las organizaciones desde los departamentos de RH.
Las redes sociales virtuales ofrecen un espacio de interacción a las personas que participan en ellas y, a su vez, permiten que la información, los comentarios, los aportes y contribuciones de cada individuo, queden registradas para ser luego consultados por otros participantes.
Estas redes, conocidas como Facebook, MySpace, Hi5, entre otras, podrian estar circunscriptas a una organización-sus empleados, proveedores, clientes, etc.-y ofrecer espacios de interacción social que promuevan el desalloro laboral, profesional u organizacional, sin planificar los temas y contenidos, los momentos y las instancias en que estos aprendizajes se produzcan. Asi, se libera a los usuarios del compromiso de aprender y, paradojicamente, se promueven los aprendizajes.
Es recomendable analisar la cultura organizacional y su gente, y el modo en que las personas se relacionan, el tipo de información que comparten a traves de los espacios y medios informales, el modo en que esa información es percibida por los empleados y por la organización.
Son muchos los beneficios de gestionar una red social al interior de la organización: Permite establecer un espacio de comunicación agil e inovador dentro de la organización que favoresca la interacción en sus diferentes direcciones (vertical y horizontal). Permite que los usuarios compartan y gestionen información y conocimiento de forma inteligente. Favorece la detección de oportunidades de mejora y capacitación, ya que las consultas o comentarios permiten reconocer las necesidades de aprendizaje de los usuarios.

As mentioned on several forums, there's a need for implementing and encouraging the use of technology within the sphere of business and education in order to be a more competitive country. Undoubtedly, a highly useful and beneficial tool for businesses and the academic sector is e-Learning. By definition, e-Learning is understood as non-attendance education that, by
means of technological platforms, make the access and the time in the teaching-learning process both possible, and more flexible.
From the perspective of its conception and development as a training tool, e-learning systems have a pedagogic and technologic duality. Pedagogic, in that it must be transmitted according to defined models and patterns, and technologic in that the whole teaching-learning process sustains itself on software applications, mainly developed in Web environments, which is why these systems are called training platforms.
There are mainly two types of platforms: those used to impart and give administrative back-up to online courses or LMS (Learning Management Systems), and, on the other hand, those used to manage the digital contents or LCMS (Learning Content Management Systems), the most common being LMS.
An LMS is a software based on a Web server that provides modules for the administrative and back-up processes required for a learning system, simplifying the control of these tasks. It also facilitates distributed and collaborative learning by means of activities and contents, using Internet communication services like electronic mail, forums, video-conferences and chatrooms.
The systems that promote teaching-learning processes through e-Learning are of great importance in consolodating the so-called "Knowledge Society". These resources open the door for the basic or advanced training of an important number of people, who can see their personal qualifications or professional situations enhanced. Nevertheless, e-Learning in Mexico is in it's initial phases and still has a long way to go before attaining its maturity and consolidation. Interesting challenges and lines of investigation present themselves along this path in both the pedagogic and technological fields.
Neither can the human factor be ignored, which becomes the most important factor when you want to undertake a strategy based on e-training; without its acceptance, committment and dedication it's impossible for e-Learning to succeed in an organization.
An e-Learning solution is made up of three fundamental elements: platform, contents and communicative tools, and the costs can be extremely varied because of the diversity of the specific needs. On the other hand, the quality of the contents depends on one necessary, though insufficient, condition for the success of the training program. The design of the contents must be undertaken, according to norms, by didactic methodology experts with the objective of responding to: adecuacy to the necessities, interactivity, adecuate structure for its proper assimilation and accessibility, independently of the platform supporting the contents. Likewise, they have to respond to: inter-operability, re-usability and durability.
In actuality, there are several standards in use, like the AICC developed by the aviation industry in the United States, the Institute of Electronics and Data Processing Engineers' IEEE LTSC, the IMS from the Global Learning Consortium, and the most widely used and extended, SCORM, from which alot of information can be obtained for free on the Web.
More and more there's talk of the possibilities that informal training offers within organizations, however, it's not very certain that we know of a way to conscientiously foment informal training within organizations through their HR departments.
Virtual social networks offer a space for interaction to the people who particpate on them and, at the same time, allow the information, the comments, the submissions and the contributions from each individual to remain registered and be later consulted by other participants.
These networks, known as Facebook, MySpace, and Hi5, among others, could be circumscribed to an organization-its employees, suppliers, clients, etc.-and offer spaces for social interaction that promote labor, professional and organizational development, without planning the topics and the contents, the moments and the instances in which these learning experiences are produced. Thus, the users will be freed from the obligation of learning, and, paradoxically, learning will be promoted.
It would be worthwhile to analyze the organizational culture and its people, the way that people relate to each other, the way they share across informal spaces and resources, and the way that information is percieved by the employees and by the organization.
There are alot of benefits from promoting a social network within the organization: It allows an agile and innovative communicatins space to be established inside the organization that favors intraction in its different directions (vertical and horizontal). It permits users to share and access information and knowledge in an intelligent way. It favors finding opportunities for improvement and training because it allows for the acknowledgement of the user's educational needs.

Como director fundador del Instituto de Arquitectura y Estudios Urbanos (IAUS) de 1967 a 1982, Peter Eisenman exploro e investigo para postular una teoria libre de dogmas arquitectonicas; mas relacionada con la filosofia y la linguistica; ideas que pudo divulgar como director de la publicacion del instituto, "OPPOSITIONS", que perseguia la dialectica de opuestos y contrariedades en la arquitectura.
Es interesante notar que Eisenman, antes de esto, fue miembro del "TAC" (The Architect's Collaborative), fundado en 1945 por nadie mas que Walter Gropius, el padre del Bauhaus, y uno de los pilares del movimiento moderno. Como se desasocio de los modernistas, con su doctrina marcadamente funccionalista y evoluciono hasta quiza el maximo exponente de la teoria del caos aplicada a la arquitectura en el alba del siglo 21 es el tema de este ensayo.
LA ARQUITECTURA MALA
Nicolas Cabral hizo el comentario que para hacer arquitectura mala el mejor metodo es contratar al que solo conoce de arquitectura. Consideremos unos ejemplos: Nadie que haya leido los textos de Christopher Alexander ("Un Modo intemporal de Construir") puede resistir la seduccion de su lectura; sin embargo, su Cafe Linz no solo es una obra intrascentente; es casi pueril_una contradiccion con su literatura que va mas alla de la construccion y es capaz de inspirar una arquitectura transgresora. ¿Y Que decir de Robert Venturi ("Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture","Learning from Las Vegas")? Un polemista excelente, escritor eloquente, teorico sugerente-y un diseñador de arquitectura mediocre; casi un insulto a su literatura. Las teorias polemicas propuestas por Rem Koolhaas en sus libros ("S,M,L,XL", Y "Delerious New York") han despertado debates en los circulos arquitectonicos mundialmente, pero ¿Cuando estara al par su arquitectura con sus escritos?
ESCAPAR DE LA TRAMPA
Eisenman, previendo los limites impuestos sobre el diseño por los parametros inflexibles de la geometria Euclideana, la busqueda clasica por la expresion de una forma derivada de una funcion supuestamente necesaria de volumenes en el espacio tri-dimensional, busca por otros ambitos la salida de la "trampa" del proceso convencional para diseñar. En vez de fiarse solamente en las obras y teorias de los grandes interpretes del pasado, o aun de sus distinguidos colegas, decide explorar otras disciplinas -no asociadas tradicionalmente con la investigacion en la arquitectura-territorios donde el cuestionamiento del orden, coherencia y estructura no solamente ha sido propuesto, sino cientificamente acertado: La teoria de geometrias fractales de Mandelbrot*, la premisa de la complejidad que sostiene que, dentro de sistemas complejos, hasta la fluctuacion mas minima puede provocar cambios importantes en toda la estructura, y un grado mayor de complejidad y desorden de los fragmentos conduce al caos.
Dejando las teorias de la fisica cuantica y la matematica , Eisenman se enfoco en la dinamica de la linguistica. Con una intuicion igualmente penetrante examina la obra, por ejemplo, de Robert Wilson**, aceptando lo irracional como pretexto creativo, incluyendo errores de gramatica, ortografia y una desatencion de la puntuacion (la misma estructura); una obra intencionalmente absurda, para cuestionar el uso y sentido convencional de palabras y objetos, como la silla de Kafka-que se desploma al usar.
[ Recordando mi encuentro inicial con las primeras obras de Eisenman (CasaIII); una serie de dibujos axonometricos representando el proceso de diseño para una residencia (Robert Miller,Lakeside, Connecticut), me maravillo el uso simultaneo de fragmentacion, interseccion, rotacion reticular, variacion de alturas, e interpenetracion de volumenes geometricos en una pequeña, mas no sencilla, casa. Un estudiante principiante de diseño en ese momento, me inspiro a buscar mas alla de los metodos tradicionales de composicion para una de mis primeras maquetas ; basando el diseño de una casa de playa elevada en un ejercicio de origami (el arte japones de doblar y desdoblar papel) que sirvio como el "modulo" que emplee para crear los submodulos que conformaron los diferentes componentes del edificio por medio de jugar con la escala, distorcionar, exagerar, amputar, y omitir la forma original. Ahora recuerdo la experiencia maravillosa de enriquesimiento derivado al descubrir el rango de diversidad que las varias etapas de dobleces, filos, y "torsiones" del modulo de origami proporcionaron al proceso de diseño en mi proyecto. El resultado fue una interpretacion algo sorpredente de un casa de playa de unos 60m2 sobre zancos; un diseño tambien inspirado por una charla con Bob Mashburn (mi entonces profesor de diseño y discipulo de R.Buckminster Fuller) que me alento a investigar el origami como una fuente de influencia creativa.]
"THE NEW YORK FIVE"
En 1969, Peter Eisenman formo parte de los "New York Five" junto con John Hedjuk, Michael Graves, Charles Gwathmey, y Richard Meier-colegas que, sin excepcion, dejaron huella sobre la historia del diseño en la segunda etapa del siglo veinte.
EL AGENTE CORROSIVO
En vez de construir su teoria en el orden, la "Belleza", funcion, o cualquier otro concepto racionalista, Eisenman deliberadamente escogio una posicion claramente antagonista; provocando ansiedad e incomodidad, rechazando la premisa tradicional de "armonia", estetica, etc. Sus obras teoricas-practicas cuestionan el uso del edificio como una "maquina para vivir"; busca desestabilizar y torcer simbolos socialmente aceptados del confort y cobijo: casas con raices en la dislocacion y el distanciamiento de esos elementos obedientes al racionalismo; todos inicialmente en color blanco (una paleta compartida con su contemporaneo, Richard Meier), estos, aunque procedentes de la academia, no dejaron de provocar desasociacion y nihilismo.
Estos primeros diseños, sin otro titulo que la secuencia temporal en que fueron presentados, fueron experimentos arquitectonicos. Las primeras nueve casas estan contextualmente separadas de cualquier referencia al sitio, paisaje y exterior. El contexto no se considera como parte del problema ni de la solucion. Sin embargo, luego, en sus sesiones de auto-psicoanalisis, propone la ausencia de la casa; esta sola es el centro, y lo que existe es el exterior. Finalmente, en las casas "X","XI", y "El Even Odd ", incrusta sus soluciones en la tierra.
RETICULAS ROTATIVAS
Eisenman entonces comienza un periodo de experimentacion en donde utiliza la reticula como principio de composicion y de organizacion del programa. Comenzando ortagonalmente, luego evolucionando a capas, las cuales, repitiendose una sobre otra, se desplazan. O, gira y encima la reticula creando nuevos modulos y siempre mas complejos submodulos.
TIEMPO-ESPACIO MULTIDIMENSIONAL
Auque aparentemente contradictorio, Eisenman alude a la nocion de una "estructura invisible"; una preordinacion profunda. Acepta la existencia de un ordenador universal y discreto; el generador logico y natural de cada diseño, y propone que la clave para decifrar el codigo es evidenciar y aceptar la existencia de multiples dimensiones dentro del mismo tiempo-espacio.

Eisenman explora el potencial de la reticula (formado por la interseccion de los varios ejes en la planta arquitectonica) como semilla de la composicion en su proceso de diseño; reticulos que son el fruto de geometricas pre-existentes, no-platonicas, aritmicas, asi como jugar con la proyeccion bi-dimensional de volumenes, traslapando, rotando, deslizando elementos de cada capa o reticula y asi obteniendo un pretexto composicional totalmente independiente de cualquier intencion conciente o estilista. Acepta lo coincidental, el resultado al azar, en donde cada pliege esquina o nicho no necesariamente esta alli para funcionar o servir, sino para significar. Mas que una solucion, sus edificios son un manifesto de la sociedad contemporanea.
Un ejemplo sobresaliente de la experimentacion de Eisenman es el Centro Wexner con sus reticulas ortagonales giradas en planta, y una reticula (habitable) en la tercera dimension, como un recordatorio y extension de la esquema urbana en el campus universitario.
Sin duda, seria casi imposible comprender la arquitectura de Eisenman sin la implementacion del dibujo asistido por computadora (CAD). Podemos ver como usa metodos de composicion con tecnologia digital en el proceso creativo; el resultado de variaciones numericas representando ideas, conceptos abstractos y absurdidades. Una presentacion de planos preliminares de Eisenman inevitablemente introduce un toque de inhabitablidad e incomprensibilidad nunca antes visto.
MANTRAS GEOMETRICAS
El fin de encontrar una solucion compositiva y organizativa para el edificio en el propio sitio lleva a Eisenman, atravez de una especie de mantra geometrica, a generar un sistema de curvas y angulos para la reticula del Centro Aranoff; el resultado de la disposicion coincidental de los edificios existentes y las curvas del terreno. Para el Atocha Street Hotel usa la huella del predio; subdividiendolo, rotandolo, trazlapandolo sobre si mismo para producir la composicion final.
Sus edificios pueden haber sido inaugurados, pero en un sentido nunca estaran terminados: siempre flotando en una transformacion sin fin; en un proceso continuo de redefinicion y cambio. Son testigos del flujo eterno de las oposiciones e interacciones que conforman a la sociedad, recordando a los Fluxus Monitors de Nam June Paik.
FRAGMENTACION...DETERIORO...CAOS
En su busqueda por un sendero singular, Eisenman desarolla procedimientos para diseñar siempre mas complejos, cuestionando el papel de la estructura en la sociedad moderna, desestabilizandola, torciendola, promoviendo el deterioro y fragmentacion de la estructura y de simbolos culturales por medio de la busqueda y de la provocacion.
Doblando uno de los icones del siglo XX, el rascacielos, sobre si mismo; alegando una feminidad contraria al simbolo falico de verticalidad, en el disconcertante proyecto del Max Rhinehardt Haus.
¿CONVERSO..O CREADOR?
En la misma manera que Beatriz Zamora evoca lo espiritual de su obra, "El Negro", Eisenman sufre una "conversion" despues de tanta negacion. En el Holocaust Memorial abandona el uso de reticulas complicadas y propone un grupo de lapidas que dan la impresion de una pradera artificial donde uno puede "ver" la caricia del viento sobre su superficie, pero, lejos de resignarse en su conversion, prefiere desempeñar el papel de Dios.

As founding director of the Institute of Architecture and Urban Studies (IAUS) from 1967 to 1982, Peter Eisenman explored and researched a theory free of architectural dogmas; more related to philosophy and linguistics, ideas which he was able to divulge as editor of the institute's publication, "OPPOSITES", which pursued the dialectics of contraries and opposites in architecture.
It's interesting to note that Eisenman, before this, was a member of The Architect's Collaborative (TAC), founded in 1945 by none other than Walter Gropius; father of the Bauhaus and one of the pillars of the so-called Modern Movement. How he disassociated from the modernists, with their markedly functionalist doctrine and evolved into perhaps the maximum exponent of the theory of chaos applied to architecture at the dawn of the 21st century is the subject of this essay.
TRULY BAD ARCHITECTURE
Nicolas Cabral has said that to create bad architecture the best method is to hire someone who only knows about architecture. Let's consider a few examples: No one who has read the texts of Christopher Alexander (An Intemporal Way of Building) can lightly dismiss the seductive allure of his writing; yet his Cafe Linz is not just intranscendental; it borders on the childish_ a complete contradiction of his literature , which transcends mere building and is capable of inspiring transgressive architecture. And what of Robert Venturi ("Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture", "Learning from Las Vegas")? An excellent polemist, an eloquent writer, a suggestive theorist-and a mediocre designer; almost an insult to his writing. The polemic theories proposed by Rem Koolhaas in his books ("S,M,L,XL" and "Delerious New York") have excited debate in architectural circles worldwide, but when will his architecture catch up with his literature?
A WAY OUT OF THE TRAP
Eisenman, foreseeing the limits imposed upon design by the rigid parameters of Euclidean geometry, the classical search for an expression of form derived from a supposedly necessary function, and orthogonic projections of volumes in three-dimentional space, searches elsewhere for a way out of the "trap" of conventional design process. Instead of relying solely on the works and theories of the great interpreters before him, or even of his distinguished colleagues, he decides to explore other disciplines, not traditionally associated with architectural investigation , territories where the questioning of order, coherence and structure have not only been proposed, but scientifically asserted: Mandelbrot's theory of fractal geometries*, the premise of complexity-sustaining that within complex systems, even the slightest fluctuation can provoke important changes in the entire structure; and a major degree of complexity and disorder of the fragments lead to chaos.
From the theories of quantum physics and mathematics, Eisenman turned to the the dynamics of linguistics. With equally penetrating insight he examines the work, for instance, of Robert Wilson**, accepting the irrational as a creative pretext, including errors of grammmar and spelling, and a disregard for punctuation ( the structure itself); a work intentionally absurd, to question the use and and conventional meaning of words and objects, like Kafka's chair-which collapses upon use.
[ Recalling my first encounter with Eisenman's early work (House III); a series of axonometric drawings revealing his design process for a residence (Robert Miller, Lakeside, Connecticut:1971), I was awed by the simultaneouis use of fragmentation, intersection, grid rotation, height variation, and interpenetration of geometric volumes in one small, if not simple, house. A student of design at the time, I felt inspired to search beyond traditional compositional approaches for one of my first architectural models, basing the design for an elevated beach house on an origami (the Japanese art of folding paper) exercise which served as the "module" I employed to create the submodules that made up the different components of the of the building by playing with scale, distortion, exaggeration, amputation, and omission of the initial form. I remember now the wonderful experience of enrichment derived from discovering the range of diversity which the various stages of the folds, creases, and "bending" of the origami module contributed to the design process of my project. The result was a somewhat starteling interpretetion of a 60m2 beach house on stilts; a design inspired by a chat with Bob Mashburn (My then design professor and a disciple of R.Buckminster Fuller) who encouraged me to look into origami as a source of creative influence.]
"THE NEW YORK FIVE"
In 1969, Peter Eisenman formed part of the "New York Five" together with John Hedjuk, Michael Graves, Charles Gwathmey, And Richard Meier, colleagues which, without exception, left their mark on the history of later 20th-century design.
THE CORROSIVE AGENT
Instead of constructing his theorem on order, "Beauty", function, or any other racionalist concept, Eisenman deliberately chose a plainly antagonistic position; provoking anxiety and uneasiness, rejecting the traditional premise of "Harmony", aesthetics, etc. His theoretical-practical works question the use of buildings as "machines for living", he aims to destabilize and twist socially accepted symbols associated with comfort and shelter: houses with roots in a dislocation and distancing from those elements obedient to racionalism, all initially in the color white (a pallete also shared by his contemporary, Richard Meier): these, although proceeding from the academy, succeed in provoking disassociation and nihilism.
These first designs, with no other title than the temporal sequence in which they were presented, were architectural experiments. The first nine are contextually independent of any reference to site, landscape and the exterior. Later, in his auto-psychoanalytic sessions, he proposes the absence of the house; it is only the center, and what exists is the exterior. Finally, in houses "X", "XI", and "El Even Odd", he encrusts his solutions in the ground.
ROTATING GRIDS
Eisenman then enters a period of experimentation in which he uses the grid as a compositional principle and as a principle of program organization. Beginning orthogonally, he later evolves to layers which, repeating themselves one upon another, displace themselves. Or he rotates and superimposes the grid creating new modules and ever more complex submodules.
MULTIDIMENSIONAL SPACE-TIME
However seemingly contradictory, Eisenman alludes to the notion of an "invisible structure", a profound pre-ordination. He accepts the existance of a universal and discrete processor; the logical and natural generator of each design, and proposes that the key for deciphering the code is to evidence and accept the existence of multiple dimensions within the same time-space.

He explores the potential of the grid ( formed by the reticular intersection of the the various axis within a floor plan) as the seed for composition in his design process; grids which are the fruit of pre-existent geometrics, non-platonic, arrythmic, as well as playing with two-dimensionsl projection of volumes, overlapping, rotating, sliding elements of each layer or grid and thus obtaining a compositional pretext totally independent from any conscious or stylistic intention. He accepts the coincidental, the random result, where every fold, corner or nook is not necessarily there to function or serve, but rather to signify. More than a solution, his buildings are a manifesto of contemporary society.
An exceptional example of Eisenman's experimentation is the Wexner Center with its orthogonal grids rotated in plan, and a grid (habitable) in the third dimension, like a reminder and extension of the urban scheme in the university campus.
Undoubtably, it would be almost impossible to understand Eisanman's architecture without the implementation of computer-aided drawing (CAD). We can see how he uses compositional methods with digital technology in the creative process; the result of numeric variations representing ideas, abstract concepts and absurdities. A presentation of Eisenman's preliminary plans inevitably introduces a touch of inhabitability and never-before-seen incomprehensibility.
GEOMETRIC MANTRAS
The goal of finding a compositional and organizational solution for the building in the site itself leads Eisenman, through a kind of geometric mantra, to generate a system of curves and angles for the grid of the Aranoff Center; a result of the coincidental arrangement of existing buildings and the curves of the terrain. For the Atocha Street Hotel he uses the footprint of the site; subdividing it, rotating it, overlapping it upon itself to produce the final composition.
His buildings may have been inaugurated, but in a sense they will never be finished: forever floating in a neverending transformation, in a continual process of redefinition and flux. They stand as a witness of the eternal flow of oppositions and interactions that make up society, recalling the Fluxus Monitors of Nam June Paik.
FRAGMENTATION...DETERIORATION..CHAOS
In his quest for a singular approach, Eisenman develops evermore complex design procedures, questioning the role of structure in contemporary society, destabilizing it, twisting it, fracturing it, promoting the deterioration and fragmentation of the structure and of cultural symbols by means of searching and provocation.
Bending one of the icons of the 20th-century, the skyscraper, upon itself; alleging a femininity contrary to the phallic symbol of verticality, in the disconcerting Max Rhinehardt Haus project.
CONVERT OR CREATOR?
In the same way that Beatriz Zamora evokes the spiritual from her work, "The Black", Eisenman undergoes a "conversion" after so much negation. In the Holocaust Memorial he abandons the use of complex grids and proposes a group of tombstones that seem rather like an artificially created meadow where one can "see" the caress of the wind upon its surface, but, unresigned in his conversion, he prefers to play God.

Se dice que el arte consiste en detenerse. En saberse detener a tiempo. Una linea de mas puede arruinar una pintura, como una forma excedente castiga a la arquitectura y una palabra de sobra estropea a un poema. Pero si el arte funciona con la mesura, las ferias de arte, en cambio, consisten en no frenarse nunca.Como mercados comerciales, requieren del exceso y la prisa, y como ferias, necesitan ese espiritu donde lo festivo convive con lo inmediato y lo agotador. La Feria Internacional de Arte Contemporaneo de Madrid, que ha tenido lugar del 10 al 14 de Febrero de 2005, representa el placer de llenarse de arte. Con una dosis temporal que invade la capital española, la XXIV edicion de ARCO reune a unas 300 galerias de todo el mundo, a mas de 2,000 artistas, asi como a incalculables obras, coleccionistas y aficionados. La Feria, que dedica esta edicion a Mexico, completa su agenda con conferencias y exposiciones colaterales que desbordan del recinto ferial Juan Carlos I, ocupando espacios como el Museo Reina Sofia, el Palacio de Cristal en el Parque del Retiro, la Casa de America, las pantallas de cine, la ciudad y los bares.
ARCO, cercana a ferias como Art Basel y a su version tropical en Miami, a la FIAC de Paris o al estancado intento mexicano de MACO, aunque no muy lejos de las Ferias de Libros, tiene la virtud de reunir no solo las tendencias ultimas sino de mostrar una especie de radiografia del panorama de los ultimos cincuenta años. Su origen comercial la convierte en una fiel muestra del mercado contemporaneo donde convive de todo, y su espiritu como olimpiada de arte permite poner a prueba el talento joven, donde cada vez mas se consolida el arte digital y el net.art, y se prueban distintos metodos de vendr un arte que no se cuelga.
Mexico representa en primer pais latinoamericano invitado (solo) a ARCO, despues de que en ediciones anteriores naciones como Suiza, Italia y Grecia, entre otros, exportaran su material mas creativo y, con suerte, el mas vendible. Con la invitacion de este año se corrige el plantamiento de 1997, donde se tomo a toda America Latina como pais invitado, presentando en 34 salas a casi un continente. Sin embargo, el acotar geograficamente a su huesped no ha significado una disminucion de inputs, sino al contrario.
La tematica de la invasion mexicana se ha centrado principalmente en dos argumentos: La megalopolis, ese desafuero urbano de la ciudad de Mexico "que todo lo permite y todo lo impide", y la "tercer nacion", aquel confuso espacio que constituye su frontera norte. Si bien el primero se conmemora en imagines saturadas y el segundo evoca paisajes desolados, ambos parten de territorios extremos donde convive un caos casi ficticio caracterizado por la rebeldia y la desidia. Exposiciones como "Tijuana Sessions", el trabajo de colectivos como El Futuro mas Aca y Nortec, asi como el ciclo de videoarte en el Reina Sofia, muestran obras marcadas por las insalvables desigualdades del contexto actual, tratadas casi siempre con ironia y creatividad.

It's been said that art consists of detaining. Of knowing when to stop at the right moment. One needless line can ruin a painting, just as excessive form chastises architecture or a redundant word can spoil a poem. But if art functions with moderation, art fairs, on the other hand, consist in never refraining. As commercial markets, they require excess and haste, and as fairs, they need that spirit where the festive coexists with the immediate and the exhausting.
Madrid's International Contemporary Art Fair, which has taken place from the 10th to the 14th of February,2005, represents the pleasure of filling oneself with art. With a temporary overdose that invades the Spanish capital, the 24th edition of ARCO gathers some 300 galleries from all over the world, more than 2,000 artists, as well as innumerable works, collectors and fans. The Fair, which dedicates this edition to Mexico, fulfills its agenda with conferences and collateral expositions that overflow beyond the Juan Carlos I fairgrounds, ocupying such spaces as the Museo Reina Sofia, the Palacio de Cristal in the Parque del Retiro, the Casa de America, movie theater screens, the city and the bars.
ARCO, akin to fairs such as Art Basel and to its tropical version in Miami, to Paris' FIAC or the stunted Mexican edeavor MACO, although not very distant from the Book Fairs, has the virtue of not only assembling the latest tendencies but of exhibiting a kind of x-ray of the panorama over the last fifty years. Its commercial origin makes it a faithful example of the contemporary market where it coexists with everything, and its "Art Olympics" spirit allows young talent to be tested, where more and more digital art and net.art are consolidated, and different methods of selling an art which is not hung up are put to the test.
Mexico represents the first Latinamerican country invited (alone) to ARCO, following previous editions in which nations such as Switzerland, Italy and Greece, among others,exported their most creative and, with luck, most marketable materials.
With this year's invitation, the 1997 proposition has been corrected, where all of Latin America was taken as the invited country, presenting almost an entire continent within 34 exhibition rooms. However, geographically mapping its guest has not meant a decrease of inputs, but rather the contrary.
The theme of the Mexican invasion has mainly centered on two arguments: the megalopolis; that urban outrage of Mexico City which "permits all and impedes all", and the "third nation"; that confusing space that comprises its northern border. While the first is commemorated in saturated images, and the second evokes desolate landscapes, both derive from extreme territories where they share an almost ficticious chaos characterized by rebelliousness and neglect. Shows like "Tijuana Sessions", the work of collectives like El Futuro mas Alla and Nortec, as well as the Mexican videoart series in the Reina Sofia exemplify works marked by the unresolvable inequalities of the present-day context, almost always handled with a mixture of irony and creativity.

EL SUBFUTURO AHORA
¿El subfuturo? Sí, el futuro tecnológico en el tercer mundo. ¿El tercer mundo? ¿Todavía existe? Sí, el tercer mundo: todos esos pueblos mexicanos donde no se han pavimentado las calles y hay que pagar por el agua a la pipa; ciudades perdidas en India o favelas de Brasil con hartas consolas de Playstation en uso.
Tal vez me podrías contestar que en el futuro los coches vuelan y no se necesita pavimento. Pero esta reseña no es acerca del futuro hollywoodense.
En esta reseña la onda es el subfuturo. El de un país con 40 millones (y sigue contando) de pobres y el magnate de las comunicaciones –también uno de los hombres más ricos del mundo entero– en el mismo suelo. Un futuro donde la tecnología nos separa, en vez de unirnos. El futuro de pueblos desiertos con acceso a celulares. El de comunidades sin posibilidades de desarrollo y que se encuentran en la penosa necesidad de sacrificar su dignidad para convertirse en trabajadores invisibles del país más poderoso del mundo, dispuestos a intercambiar su mano de obra por unos dólares. El futuro de la globalización.
Lo anterior no es mi viaje. Es el viaje de "Sleep Dealer", la ópera prima del cineasta americano Alex Rivera, la cual fue presentada en el Festival Sundance del 2008 y fue distinguida con el premio de Amnistía Internacional en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Berlín, también en este año. Esta importante producción de corte independiente se diferencia de todas las demás "ya que no se desarrolla en Los Angeles o en Nueva York y sus protagonistas no son Harrison Ford ni Tom Cruise", en palabras de Alex. Sleep Dealer, es ciencia ficción en español, en Tijuana –la ciudad del futuro– y con un héroe campesino.
Alex estudió Cine y Ciencias Políticas en el Hampshire College en Massachussetts, y en perfecto espanglish –aunque su español es impecable– nos confesó cómo es que empezó su relación con la tecnología. "He estado interesado en la tecnología desde chavito. Yo crecí en upstate New York y mi mamá trabajaba en IBM. Me senté en frente de computadoras desde muy chavito. Crecí con Star Wars y más adelante con Blade Runner, Alien. Siempre me encantó el sci-fi, pero después empecé a ver todo desde del otro lado de mi familia. Mi papá es un inmigrante de Perú que vino a Estados Unidos a trabajar en fábricas. Fue al ejército. Se aventó todo el paquete de inmigrar. Cuando pienso en el género del sci-fi y lo relaciono con ese lado de mi familia, me doy cuenta que el sci-fi no considera el futuro del 3er mundo. De la mayoría del planeta".
Hace más de 5 años, conocí a Alex en el gabacho, cuando su sitio "Invisible America" comenzaba a dar bastante de qué hablar en la comunidad de las artes electrónicas y el net-art. "Invisible America" es una invitación a cruzar la división digital y entrar al anti-imperio del internet de Rivera, el cual es, sobre todo, una joya de la sátira política, y un ejemplo del más puro hacktivismo en la red.
Anden, visiten invisibleamerica.com para entender cómo es que los latinos se convirtieron en la minoría más grande de los United. Conocer la versión hispana de G.I.Joe, es decir, G.I. José, y conocer más acerca de los planes de las grandes corporaciones para conquistar al mercado hispano y los cybraceros. Finalmente, no se pierdan "Las papas del papa", para todos aquellos que ya se olvidaron de las estampas religiosas ¡que venían en las bolsas de papitas!
Los cybraceros son los trabajadores de la corporación Cybracero, una maquiladora de labor virtual, en la cual los trabajadores se conectan desde su país para controlar robots en diferentes partes del mundo. Este es el futuro de Sleep Dealer, el sueño de los Estados Unidos: "el trabajo, sin los trabajadores". Como todas las grandes obras que realmente logran comunicar un fuerte mensaje político, Sleep Dealer es un filme que afortunadamente no habla de política. "La característica más notable del futuro cercano que yo describo, es el sueño de muchos políticos: una frontera cerrada. En mi film la frontera ha sido cerrada, pero la economía –el capital o como lo quieres llamar– ha respondido, creando un sistema en el cual la mano de obra de los inmigrantes sigue siendo utilizada, pero sin necesidad de cruzar la frontera. Ellos conectan sus cuerpos a una red global y controlan máquinas que funcionan en los Estados Unidos. Su labor –pura– va directo al norte pero sus cuerpos se mantienen fuera del territorio".
¿Y qué opina Rivera de la problemática de la mano en el Imperio y la relación del sci-fi con la realidad?
"Yo creo que el sci-fi es un género muy potente y que tiene una gran habilidad para reflejar nuestros sueños, miedos y preguntarnos siempre: ¿A dónde vamos? Ya sea Minority Report, Blade Runner, Total Recall, todas tratan de decirnos algo acerca del mundo, pero también ofrecen una visión crítica y obscura de las posibilidades reales. En muchas ocasiones es así como: "los robots se han rebelado y han decidido matar a la gente". Entonces, la película es acerca de que Harrison Ford o Schwarzenegger tienen que matar a los robots. Siempre hay algo en relación con la labor; robots que trabajan y se rebelan. Mi cinta es muy explícita en el sentido de que critica cómo es este país, está muy hambriento por mano de obra, pero, al mismo tiempo, tiene una incapacidad muy grande para integrar a esos trabajadores a la sociedad. Mi película habla de esta dinámica y de su versión tecnológica y automatizada".
Sleep Dealer es la historia de Memo –interpretado por Luis Fernando Peña– , un campesino de Santa Ana, Oaxaca, que disfrutaba su tiempo libre jugando con radio hackeado para poder sintonizar frecuencias de otros lugares. Un día su onda es captada por un operador de Drones y es declarado supuesto terrorista.
Y aquí es donde su éxodo a la ciudad mexicana del futuro comienza. Memo conoce a Luz (Leonor Varela) al llegar a Tijuana, quien le ayuda a instalarse los "nodos" que le permitirán trabajar como Cybracero. Y bueno… ya no les puedo decir más. Se tendrán que esperar al estreno… en un reconocido festival de cine del interior de la República...
Creo que es justo adelantarles que la estética quizá no es lo que esperan de su película promedio de ciencia ficción y, por lo tanto, sumamente interesante. Alex nos comenta al respecto: "Cuando haces una película de ciencia ficción desarrollada en tercer mundo todo cambia completamente. La ciencia ficción del primer mundo significa: edificios altísimos, carros que vuelan... se involucra muchísimo dinero para poder transformar nuestra realidad visual. Una cinta de ciencia ficción en un pueblito de Oaxaca, tienes que ponerte a pensar en qué ha cambiado desde hace 100 años. Y ¿sabes? Claro que hay cambios. Hay antenas parabólicas encima de casas medio terminadas, hay teléfonos de pago un poco futuristas… pero los caminos no están pavimentados, las casas siguen siendo de adobe, como cientos de años atrás. Pero si piensas en cómo se verán en 50 años adelante... pues no cambiará mucho. Yo lo llamo "desarrollo capilar": solamente pequeños detalles del mundo son futuristas o más tecnológicos…pero, en general, todo seguirá viéndose igual".
"La verdad es que el look "3rd world sci-fi" funcionó perfecto con mi presupuesto, ya que es mi primer largometraje y tenía poco presupuesto. La idea de un futuro no desarrollado tiene un fundamento político y estético, pero pues sí… nos ahorró dinero. Aun así, tenemos 425 escenas con efectos especiales, gráficos 3d y 2d, compuestos de pantallas. Es un buen de trabajo de efectos especiales para darle el feeling de la aventura real del sci-fi".
Y pues así es. Fuera de nuestra pequeña burbuja tecnológica y nuestro desarrollo disfrazado de iPods y gadgets, la mayoría del país se encuentra sepultado en el tercer mundo. Es hora de detenernos un momento. ¿A dónde vamos? ¿Cómo le hacemos para no hacer la brecha más grande? ¿Cómo podemos hacer un uso más justo de la tecnología? ¿De qué les sirve a los pobres tanta tecnología? ¿Para esclavizarlos? ¿Estamos jugando en el bando correcto? Más vale tarde que nunca, dicen por ahí.

THE SUB-FUTURE NOW
The sub-future? Yes, the technological future in the third world. The third world? Yes, the third world: all those Mexican pueblos where the streets haven't been paved and water has to be bought from a tanker; lost cities in India or Brazil's "favelas"-full of Playstation consoles in use.
Perhaps you'll reply that in the future cars will fly and that pavement isn't necessary. But this review isn't about a Hollywood-like future.
In this review the theme is the sub-future. About a country with forty million (and still counting) of the poor and a communications tycoon-who is also one of the richest men in the world-on the same soil. A future where technology divides us instead of bringing us together. The future of deserted pueblos with celular access. Of communities with no possibility of development who find themselves with the painful necessity of sacrificing their dignity to become invisible workers in the world's most powerful country, willing to exchange their labor for a few dollars.
The future of globalization.
The above isn't my trip. It's "Sleep Dealer"'s trip, American film maker Alex Rivera's opera prima, presented at the Sundance Festival and awarded the Amnesty International Prize at Berlin's International Film Festival; also this year. This important indie-style production differentiates itself from all the rest "...because it doesn't take place in Los Angeles or in New York, and its leading actors are neither Harrison Ford nor Tom Cruise", says Alex. "Sleep Dealer" is science fiction in Spanish, in Tijuana-the city of the future-and with a "campesino" (farm laborer)hero.
Alex studied cinema and political science at Hampshire College in Massachussetts, and, in perfect Spanglish-although his Spanish is faultless- confessed to us how his relationship with technology began. "I've been interested in technology since I was a kid. I grew up in upstate New York and my mom worked at IBM. I've been sitting in front of computers ever since I was really small. I grew up with "Star Wars" and later with Blade Runner"; "Alien". I always loved Sci-Fi, but later I started to look at everything from the other side of my family's perspective. My dad is an immigrant from Peru who came to the United States to work in the factories. He joined the army; dove into the whole immigration trip. When I think of the Sci-Fi genre and relate it to that side of my family, I realize that Sci-Fi doesn't consider the third world; the majority of the planet".
I met Alex in the States over 5 years ago, when his website, "Invisible America", started raising alot of commentary in the electronic arts community and in net-art. "Invisible America" is an invitation to cross the digital divide and enter Rivera's internet anti-imperium, which is, above all, a jewel of political satire, and an example of the purest hacktivism on the net.

The "cybraceros" (cyber-laborers) are workers for the Cybracero Coporation, a "maquiladora" for virtual labor, in which the workers are connected from their country to control robots in different parts of the world. This is "Sleep Dealer"'s future , the dream of the United States: "work without workers". As in all great works that really manage to convey a strong political message, fortunately, "Sleep Dealer" is a film that doesn't speak about politics. "The most notable feature of the near-future which I describe is the dream of many politicians: a closed border. In my film, the border has been closed, but the economy-capital, or whatever you want to call it- has responded by creating a system in which the labor of the immigrant continues being used, but without having to cross the border. They connect their bodies to a global network and control machines in the United States. Their labor-pure-goes directly up north, but their bodies remain outside the territory".
And what does Rivera think about the topic of labor in the Empire and Sci-Fi's relationship to reality?
"I think that Sci-Fi is a very powerful genre which has a tremendous ability to reflect our dreams, our fears and to always ask ourselves: Where are we heading? Whether it's Minority Report, Blade Runner, or Total Recall, they're all trying to tell us something about the world, but also offer a critical and dark view of the real possibilities. Alot of times it's like: "The robots have rebelled and have decided to kill the people." Then, the picture is about Harrison Ford or Schwartzeneggar having to kill the robots. There's always something related to labor; robots that work and rebel. My film is very explicit in the sense that it criticizes how this country is very starved for labor , but at the same time, has a huge incapacty for integrating those workers into society. It speaks of this dynamic and its technological and automated version".
Sleep Dealer is the story of Memo-interpreted by Luis Fernando Peña-, a "campesino" from Santa Ana ,Oaxaca, who spends his free time hacking the radio trying to tune in frequencies from other places. One day his frequency is captured by a Drone operator, and he's declared an alledged terrorist.
And this is where his exodus to the Mexican city of the future begins. Memo meets Luz (Leonor Varela) when he arrives in Tijuana, who helps him install the "nodes" that allow him to work as a Cybracero. And, well...I can't tell you any more. You'll have to wait for the premiere...in a well-known film festival in the interior of the republic...
I think it's fair to tell you in advance that the aesthetics are probably not what you'd expect in your average science fiction film, and therefore, are extremely interesting. In this respect, Alex comments: "When you make a science fiction film developed in the third world, everything completely changes. Science fiction in the first world implies: super-tall buildings, flying cars...alot of money is involved to enable our visual reality to be transformed. A science fiction film in a lttle Oaxacan pueblito; you have to think about what has changed over the last 100 years. And you know what? Of course there's been changes. There are parabolic antennas on top of half-finished houses, there are somewhat futuristic pay-phones...but the roads aren't paved, the houses are still made out of adobe, as they were hundreds of years ago.
But if you think about how they'll look 50 years from now...well, it won't change much. I call it "capillary development": only few details of the world are futuristic or more technological...but, in general, everything will continue to look the same".
" The truth is that the "3rd-world Sci-Fi" look worked perfectly with my budget, since this is my first full-length film, and the budget was limited. The idea of an non-developed future had its political and aesthetic reasons, but,well-yes...it did save us money. Even so, we have 425 scenes with special effects, 3D and 2D graphics, screen composites. There's a good deal of special effects work to give it the feeling of real Sci-Fi adventure".
And so it is. Outside of our little bubble disguised with iPods and gadgets, the majority of the country is buried in the third world. It's time to stop ourselves for a moment. Where are we headed? What can we do to avoid widening the gap? How can we use technology more fairly? What good is so much technology to the poor? To enslave them?
Are we playing on the right team? Better late than never, as the saying goes.

Historia del Honda Civic
El año 1970 fue histórico para Japón. En medio de un período de notable desarrollo económico, la nación recibió la Exposición Mundial de Osaka y se preparó afanosamente para los juegos olímpicos de invierno de Sapporo en 1972. Estos acontecimientos Internacionales incitaron en Japón la aceleración en la construcción de una gran infraestructura de transporte y se aprovisionó de combustible necesario para su transición rápida hacia una sociedad urbanizada, simbolizada por el automóvil. Fué entonces cuando Japón asumió la privilegiada posición como segunda Nación a nivel mundial en el mercado de fabricación de automóviles.
Tan rápida expansión económica y urbanización causaron incidencias importantes, como grandes atascos de tráfico y altos niveles de contaminación atmosférica. Al mismo tiempo, Honda se especializó en vehículos deportivos de altas prestaciones. Dado los problemas acontecidos en la Nación, la compañía asumió la tarea urgente de desarrollar un nuevo coche de pasajeros, económico, que se convirtiese en parte esencial de las vidas de la personas de la época. Esto condujo a la creación de la primera generación de Civic, un modelo estratégico en ese momento para Honda.
El desarrollo del Civic contrastó totalmente con la tradición de Honda. Quizás el factor mas determiante del éxito de la primera generación del Civic fue su diseño como compacto de tres puertas, que hasta entonces era inusual en Japón a pesar de su éxito en los mercados de Europa y Norteamérica. El diseño del "molde" del Civic desestimó la obsesión tradicional por el estilo y llevó el concepto de “máximo valor del mínimo espacio mecánico” al extremo. Este diseño ayudó a grabar su imagen como el coche “de la gente”.
Tras solamente dos años de diseño y pruebas, el desarrollo quedó completo, y el Civic hizo su debut, con un modelo de dos puertas en julio de 1972, seguido por una versión de tres puertas en septiembre. 1970 was a historic year for Japan. In the midst of an outstanding period of economic growth, the nation recieved the World's Fair in Osaka and eagerly prepared for Sapporo's Winter Olympic Games in 1972. These international events incited acceleration in the construction of a massive transport system infrastructure in Japan, and it supplied itself with the necessary fuel for its rapid transition into a built-up society, symbolized by the automobile. It was then that Japan assumed the priviledged position as the Second Nation in the worldwide automobile manufacturing market.
Such a rapid economic and urban expansion provoked important incidents, such as giant traffic- jams and high levels of environmental pollution. At the time, Honda specialized in sporty hi-performance vehicles. Given the problems the nation was undergoing, the company took on the task of developing a low-cost passenger car which would become an essential part in the lives of the people at that time. This led to the creation of the first generation of the Civic, a strategic model at that moment for Honda.
The Civic's development totally contrasted with Honda tradition. Instead of pursuing a development based above all on the vision of the company's founder, Soichiro Honda, The Civic's development team traveled to various world markets, acquiring local knowledge and experience first-hand, and from it they set on the idea of creating the car that was precisely "what is needed now".
Honda's prior models were characterized by having high-performance engines, but they lacked space, adecuate soundproofing, and a correct weight distribution, which are important factors when creating a car to form a close bond with the lives of its owners. After giving it some thought, the company decided to develop a new model that would be both compact and agile- a car basically accepted by everyone that would offer "maximum value with a minimum of mechanical components."
As a newcomer to the automobile industry, the company's decision to redirect the production and develop a global car for the world's markets was a true demonstration of Honda's defiant spirit which is still present today.
When the traditional "front-engine, rear-wheel drive, three-volume" design was the standard for the main trend in compact cars, the company boldly chose "front-engine, front-wheel drive, two-volume" as the concept for the "basic car for everybody." They confronted the members of the project with a multitude of new challenges and difficulties in the development process, and overcoming these challenges led to the birth of new technologies. One of them was related to weight reduction. By reducing the thickness of the sheetmetal to one-millimeter units and modifying its structure, the company surpassed conventional technology and reached new levels of vehicle lightness, which contributed enormously to lowering both costs and fuel consumption. Additionally, Honda opted for a type of indepedent suspension, which offered a great sports car feel as well as comfort, to the detriment of the rigid suspensions used in the majority of Japanese sports cars of the time. Another revolutionary concept was the introduction of the transverse engine in the compact market, where up to now, the verticle engine had been giving its cars a sensation of "greater space".
Perhaps the most determinant factor for the success of the first generation of the Civic was its design as a three-door compact, which up to then was unusual in Japan despite its success in the European and North American markets. The design of the Civic's "mold" rejected the traditional obsession with style and took the concept of "maximum value of minimum mechanical space" to the extreme. This design helped to engrave its image as "the people's" car.
Following only two years of design and tests, the development was finished and the Civic made its debut, with a two-door model in July of 1972, followed by a three-door version in September. The model caused a significant impact, especially among young people. During three consecutive years, from 1972 to 1974, the Civic won the title for "Car of the Year" in Japan, firmly engraving its name in the Japanese market.
First Generation (1972)
Continuing with the saga of the original range of Civic two and three-door models, the company expanded its range with the Hondamatic (variable velocity automatic) and with the Civic CVCC in 1973. These were complemented in !974 by the sporty Civic RS, and the station wagon version, a practical commercial vehicle. During three consecutive years , from 1972 to 1974, the Civic recieved the "Car of the Year" award in Japan. Outside of Japan, the Civic CVCC obtained high recognition in the United States. Second Generation (1979)
Attempting to create a "high-quality car representing the values of the 80's", Honda gave the Civic its first total makeover in seven years, obtaining as a result improved economy, more interior comfort and greater performance. This led, in 1980, to the development of the CVCC-II engine, which offered improved fuel efficiency. In 1981, Honda launched the Civic Country Station Wagon model and the 4-door sedan, offering a front-wheel-drive Hondamatic transmission. In 1980, the new Civic received the "Import Car of the Year" award in the U.S..
Third Generation (1983)
The concept for Civic's third generation was "maximum space for people, minumum space for mechanisms." Based on this concept, Honda developed three, four, and five-door variations; a compact three-door version, a four-door sedan, and a five-door model that offered more space for superior general use. In 1984, the company unveiled the Civic Si, offered a DOHC engine incorporated from technology used in Formula 1.
It became popular immediately due to its innovative stylized design, and won the "Car of the Year" award in Japan in 1984. In the United States, the Civic obtained first place in fuel efficiency tests performed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1984 for the second consecutive year. In Europe, it won the award for "Best Design."
Fourth Generation (1987)
The developers of the Civic's fourth generation based themselves on a "splendid performance based on human sensibilities." Aiming for even higher efficiency, Honda created its Hyper 16-valve engine in five versions-from 1300 to 1500cc. Combined with a double-wishbone suspension at all four wheels, the result was what everyone could wish for in a car. In 1984, the company unveiled the Civic SiR, equipped with a hi-performance VTEC DOHC engine, offering Honda's revolutionary syncronized variable valve technology. This model won awards such as the "Golden Steering Wheel Award" in Germany. In 1989, it also came out in first place in a survey taken about quality, in France.
Fifth Generation (1991)
The most outstanding feature of the Civic's fifth generation was the futuristic aerodynamic outline, together with a great flexibility of interior space able to satisfy young people's requirements. The new series also announced the arrival of new versions of the VTEC engine to provide an excellent blend of driving performance and high fuel efficiency. Included among the new motor innovations were the 170 HP of the VTEC DOHC and the high fuel efficiency of the VTEC-E. The new models represented an important advance in human and environmental relations, with advanced safety features and a high ratio of recyclable components. Among the outstanding awards recieved by the fifth-generation Civic were the "Car of the Year in Japan" awards for 1991 and 1992.
Sixth Generation (1995)
Going beyond the traditional "car for the masses," the Sixth-generation Civic sought to be a vehicle that represented the various generations from a global perspective. It incorporated a range of new technologies to satisfy the strong demand for high performance, safety and low gas emissions. These includes a three-stage VTEC engine, providing both high power and superior fuel efficiency, together with the Honda Multimatic-the next generation of variable-velocity automatic transmission. The result was the model obtaining the "Car of the Year in Japan " awards for both 1995 and 1996.
Seventh Generation (2000)
The seventh generation of the Civic was developed following the "ideal for all compact cars," satisfying all the important criterion with: maximum cabin space, high economy, and maximum safety for both the occupants as well as pedestrians. The interior space became more comfortable thanks to a lower and smoother floor design, allowing the occupants to move easily between the front and rear seats. Due to Honda's G-CON safety collision technology, the seventh-generation Civic has obtained the highest safety standards, winning, in 2001 and 2002, the "Car of the Year" awards in Japan.
Eighth Generation (2006)
The latest generation of the Civic has been marketed since early 2006. It has a decidedly bold look and is much more equipped than the preceding Civic. In principle it will have two gasoline and one diesel engines, but during 2006 additional models will appear, a three-door version and a version called the IMA, that will have a hybrid type of propulsion that combines a gasoline engine and an electric motor.

Ahorra mucho en la modernizacion de tu tarjeta grafica haciendolo tu mismo. No es dificil, y esta guia practica suprime todas las dudas que puedes tener en el proceso de armado.
Windows Vista es el sistema operativo
graficamente mas intenso a la fecha , y DirectX 10, su componente multimedia y de juego, hace que todos los usuarios de computadoras del mundo esten tomando en consideracion modernizar sus computadoras. Con su interfaz grafica de usuario (GUI) Aero en 3D; Vista requiere mas musculo en forma de tarjetas graficas que XP. Y como DirectX 10 no es retrocompatible, los jugadores captivados por sus potentes especificaciones se ven obligados a modernizar su hardware para disfrutarlo. No hay opcion.
A diferencia de versiones anteriores de Windows, que usaban los componentes 2D del graphics hardware para mostrar sus GUI, Windows Vista presenta su interfaz Aero con mucho enfasis en 3D. Las varias ventanas que se presentan en pantalla en realidad son superficies 3D. Esto permite lograr efectos interesantes como Flip 3D, la nueva alternativa al metodo de ver y cambiar entre distintos programas abiertos con la tecla Alt Tab. Tambien significa que Windows Vista necesita tarjetas graficas mas sofisticadas y de mejor desempeño que Windows XP o 9x.
DIRECTX
Las bibliotecas DirectX hacen posible jugar y usar sistemas multimedia en la plataforma Windows, y requieren hardware totalmente de la presente generacion (Vista si cuenta tambien con una version de DirectX 9, para tener compatiblidad con juegos mas antiguos).
DirectX es una serie de interfaces de programacion de interfaces (API). Un API, a su vez,es una capa de codigo que facilita a fabricantes y programadores la creacion de hardware y software para una plataforma dada. En teoria, los desarolladores no deberian de preocuparse por hacer compatibles sus productos con la gran cantidad de hardware que existe; tan solo hacen compatibles sus titulos con un API.
Antes de DirectX 10. cada version nueva de DirectX fue retrocompatible. Por ejemplo, un juego DiectX 8 puede ejecutarse en hardware DirectX 9. Los juegos DX9, por su parte , en general se ejecutaran en el hardware DX8, aunque sin ninguna novedad de la nueva biblioteca. Sin embargo, DirectX 10 tiro a la basura la retrocompatiblidad. Sus rigidos requerimientos implican que cualqiera que desee ejecutar juegos DirectX 10 debe tener hardware DirectX 10. El hardware DX10 funcionara con el software hecho para versiones previas de DirectX, pero lo opuesto no es cierto: una tarjeta DirectX 8, o bien 9 no va a ejecutar de ninguna manera titulos DirectX 10.
Los dos mayores fabricantes de graphics hardware, nVidia y AMD (la compañia que dio origen a ATI), tienen hardware DirectX 10 en el mercado. La linea DirectX 10 de nVidia es la serie GeForce 8 (que incluye los productos 8800GTX y GTS, asi como los chipsets 8600 y 8500). La de ATI es la serie Radeon HD 2000 (que cuenta con los productos HD 2900 XT, y con los 2600 y 2400).
Es probable que hayas leido que los primeros 10 intentos con DirectX 10 hecho por los desarrolladores de juegos han sido decepcionantes. Pero solo es cuestion de tiempo antes de que entiendan como usar los nuevos API, y entonces dejaran de emplear DirectX 9. Tal vez suene muy desalentador que el DX 10 sea una tecnologia que aun no esta bien aprovechada, pero debemos esperar a que funcione como esperamos a que Vista corrije sus errores. Microsoft nos tiene muy acostumbrados a que sus productos necesiten una revision. ¡Buh!
La conclusion es: Aunque tu tarjeta grafica DX9 tenga memoria y musculo suficiente para manejar Windows Vista, no ejecutara los juegos del mañana. Si tu computadora vieja ni siquiera puede ejecutar Vista y la vas a modernizar, tambien podrias dar el salto al hardware DirectX 10 de la presente generacion. Reiteramos, nesecitas dinero.
Tanto AMD como nVidia hacen una amplia variedad de tarjetas de varios precios. Las tarjetas mas caras (como la nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX y la AMD ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT) se dirigen de lleno a los jugadores, mientras que los productos mas baratos (desde nVidia GeForce 8600 para abajo; la serie AMD ATI Radeon HD 2600 e inferiores) se dirigen mas a los usuarios de oficina y casuales en el hogar, tal vez los que prefieren jugar en su televisor con una consola como el Xbox 360.
LA RANURA CORRECTA
De acuerdo con lo vieja que sea tu computadora, tendras que reemplzar el contenido entero-y hasta el CPU, la memoria y otros componentes-solo para cambiar la tarjeta grafica. Eso se debe a que las interfaces de las tarjetas graficas y electronicas cambian cada pocos años. Hasta hace poco, a la ranura en que se coloca la tarjeta grafica, con su conexion electronica con la tarjeta madre, se llamo Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP). A fines de 2005 la industria lo cambio por un nuevo estandar llamado PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) Express x16. Y mucho antes de que existiera la ranura AGP, las tarjetas graficas usaban ranuras PCI estandares. ¿Te tocaron los tiempos en que las expansiones solo eran de esa manera?
No es probable que halles ningun hardware DirectX 10 para el estandar AGP, mucho menos para el estandar PCI. Por lo tanto esta guia cubre solo la ranura PCI Express x16. Revisa la documentacion de la computadora, o la de la tarjeta madre, para asegurarte de que acepta una tarjeta grafica PCI Express x16. Si no es asi, necesitas una modernizacion mayor que la que resume este articulo. Y una vez mas: precisas mas dinero; probablemente sera mejor que compres o armes una computadora nueva.
COMO SE QUITA LA TARGETA GRAFICA VIEJA
Antes de abrir la carcasa de la computadora, necesitas eliminar los programas de software-los controladores-que hacen que la tarjeta grafica vieja funcione con Windows. Los controladores aparecen en general en la interfaz Add or Remove Programs (en nXP) o Programs and Features (en Vista). Puedes abrir la interfaz adecuada con el Panel de Control. Selecciona los controladores y haz clic en el boton Uninstall. Es probable que encuentres todo tipo de ventanas que preguntan si realmente quieres desinstalarlos, y el User Account Control de Windows Vista va a interrumpir y a pedir autorizacion para continuatr la desinstalacion. Si usas una tarjeta madre con graficos integrados, tendras que deshabilitarlos en el BIOS desde el arranque del equipo, ya que, de no hacerlo, podrias tener conflictos que simplemente te impiden arrancar.
La pantalla pudiera adoptar una resolucion y una profundidad de color menores durante o despues del proceso de desinstalacion. Cuando termine, la computadora te indica que la reinicies. ¡Dile que no! En cambio, apaga la computadora, desconecta el cable AC, abre la carcasa y preparate para quitar fisicamente la tarjeta. Es un poco violento esto, pero te aseguramos que funciona y hara que la transicion sea mas sencilla de llevar acabo.
Busca la tarjeta que corresponde con el cable del monitor en la parte posterior de la maquina. Esta es la tarjeta grafica de la computadora. Desconecta el cable del monitor, luego quita los tornillos que mantienen la tarjeta grafica en su sitio. Desliza la tarjeta hacia arriba, fuera de la ranura. Quiza tengas que liberar un clip de plastico en la ranura en la tarjeta grafica, cerca del frente de la tarjeta, para liberarla por completo. Siempre ten cuidado de no forzar ninguna pieza, podrias llegar a romperla.
Cuando ya quitaste la tarjeta de la carcasa, desconecta el cable de energia del frente de la tarjeta, si hay una conexion de energia, y coloca la tarjeta en una bolsa antiestatica (esas bolsas de plastico metalico). Si no tienes una a la mano, deja la tarjeta en posicion horizontal en una superficie limpia y luego, cuando hayas desprendido la bolsa antiestatica en que viene la nueva, usala para guardar la vieja.
COMO SE INSTALA LA NUEVA TARJETA GRAFICA
Puede haber dos ranuras PCIe x16 en la tarjeta madre. Si ese es el caso, usa la ranura donde estaba la tarjets grafica vieja. Si aun no estas seguro de cual usar, consulta la documentacion de la tarjeta madre, que deberia identificar claramente una de ellas como la ranura primaria.
Encuentra el cable de energia de la PCI Express ( en realidad algunas tarjetas actuales necesitan dos de ellas) y conectalo a la toma de de la tarjeta. Tomate el tiempo necesario para leer la guia de tu tarjeta madre, te ahorrara muchos dolores de cabeza.
A continuacion, alinea los contactos dorados de la tarjeta con la ranura de la tarjeta madre e insertala. Algunas tarjetas madres actuales son sorprendentemente grandes, asi que ten cuidado de no golpear otros componentes y jalar o aflojar los cables dentro del gabinete de tu equipo.
Presiona hacia abajo en la parte superior de la tarjeta hasta que este bien colocada en la ranura PCI Express x16. El bracket metalico de la parte de atras de la tarjeta deberia estar apretado contra la carcasa. Por ultimo, usando uno o dos tornillos, fija la tarjeta en su sitio. Los controladores estaran en un programa ejecutable; luego de descargar por completo ejecuta el programa. Ten cuidado al elegir el driver, ya que si instalas uno para otra tarjeta tendras muchos problemas y probablemente no funcione y experimentes muchas fallas.
Al usar Vista el User Account Control interrumpe otra vez para asegurarse de que quieres instalar los controladores. Solo sigue los avisos y la rutina de instalacion se encargara de todo. Tendras que reiniciar cuando termine la instalacion del controlador. Luego de que se vuelva a arrancar, la instalacion de la tarjeta grafica ya esta completa.

You can save alot on updating your graphics card by doing it yourself. It's not difficult, and this practical guide eliminates any doubts you might have about the building process.
Windows Vista is the most graphically intensive operating system to date, and DirectX 10, its multimedia and game component, obliges all the World's computer users to consider modernizing their computers. With its graphic computer interface (GUI) Aero in 3D, Vista requires more muscle in graphic card form than XP. And since DirectX 10 isn't retrocompatible, players captivated by its more powerful specifications are forced to update their hardware to enjoy it. There are no options.
Unlike previous versions of Windows that used 2D components from the graphics hardware to display its GUI, Windows Vista presents its Aero interface with lots of emphasis on 3D. The various windows displayed onscreen are actually 3D surfaces. This permits achieving interesting effects like Flip 3D, the new alternative to the method of viewing and changing between different open programs with the Alt Tab key. It also means that Windows Vista needs more sophisticated and more powerful graphics cards than Windows XP or Windows 9x.
DIRECTX
Direct X libraries make it possible to play and use multimedia systems on the Windows platform, and require totally present-generation hardware (Vista does also have a version of DirectX 9, to maintain compatibility with older games).
DirectX is a series of interfaces of programming interfaces (API). An API, in turn; is a layer of code which enables manufactures and programmers in the creation of hardware and software for a given platform. In theory developers shouldn't have to worry about making their products compatible with the great quantity of existing hardware; they just make their titles compatible with an API.
Before DirectX 10, every new version of DirectX was retrocompatible. For example, a DirectX 8 game can be executed on DirectX 9 hardware. DX9 games, on their part, can-in general-be executed on DX8 hardware, although without any novelty from the new library. However, DirectX 10 trashed retrocompatibility. Its rigid requirements imply that anyone desiring to execute DirectX 10 games must have DirectX 10 hardware. DX10 hardware works with software made for previous versions of DirectX, but the opposite is not true: A DirectX 8 card, or even 9, for that matter, will in no way execute DirectX 10 titles.
The two major manufacturers of graphics hardware, nVidia and AMD (the company that created ATI), have DirectX 10 hardware on the market. nVidia's DirectX 10 line is the GeForce 8 series (which includes 8800 GTX and GTS products, as well as the 8600 and 8500 chipsets). ATI's is the Radeon HD 2000 series (including HD 2900 XT products, and the 2600 and 2400).
You've probably read that the first ten attempts with DirectX 10 made by game developers have been disappointing. But it's only a matter of time before they figure out how to use the new API's, and then they'll stop employing DirectX 9. Mabey it sounds disappointing that DirectX 10 is a technology which has yet to be well exploited, but we'll have to wait for it to function as we wait for Vista to correct its errors. Microsoft has us very accustomed to its products requiring revisions. Booo!
In conclusion: Even if your DX9 graphics card has enough memory and muscle to handle Windows Vista, it won't execute tomorrow's games. If your old computer won't even run Vista and you're going to update it, you could also make the leap to present-generation DirectX 10 hardware. We reiterate. You need money.
AMD as well as nVidia make a wide variety of cards with various prices. The most expensive cards (like the nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX and the AMD ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT) are aimed directly at gamers, while the cheaper products (from the nVidia GeForce 8600 on down, or the AMD ATI Radeon HD 2600 on down) are directed more to office users , and casual home users; perhaps those who prefer to play on their television with a console like the Xbox 360.
THE RIGHT SLOT
Depending on how old your computer is, you might have to replace the entire contents-and even the CPU, the memory and other components-just to change the graphics card. This is because the interfaces for graphics cards and electronics change every few years. Until recently, the slot where you inserted the graphics card, with its electronic connection to the motherboard, was called the Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP). By the end of 2005 the industry changed to a new standard called PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) Express x16. And long before there existed an AGP slot, graphics cards used standard PCI slots. Remember when expansions were only done this way?
It's not likely that you'll find any DirectX 10 hardware for the standard AGP, much less for the simple standard PCI. As such, this guide only covers the PCI Express x16 slot. Review the computer's documentation, or the motherboard's, to make sure that it accepts a PCI Express x16 graphics card. If not, then you need a more major upgrade than the one covered in this article. And once again: You need more money; it would probably be better to buy or build a new computer.
HOW TO REMOVE THE OLD GRAPHICS CARD
Before opening the computer's case, you'll need to eliminate the software programs-the controllers-that make the old graphics card work with Windows. The controllers generally appear on the Add or Remove Programs interface (on XP) or on Programs and Features (on Vista). You can open the appropriate interface from the Control Panel. Select the controllers and click on the uninstall button. You'll probably find all kinds of windows asking if you really want to uninstall them, and Windows Vista's User Account Control is going to interrupt and ask for authorization to continue the uninstallation. If you're using a motherboard with integrated graphics, you'll have to disable them on the BIOS from the equipment's startup, because, if you don't, you could have conflicts which will simply impede starting up.
The screen could adopt a lesser resolution and depth of color during or after the uninstallation process. When it finishes, the computer will indicate you should reinitiate. Don't do it! Instead, turn the computer off, disconnect the AC cable, open the case and prepare to physically remove the card. It's a little violent, but we assure you it will work, and will make the transition easier to perform.
Look for the card that corresponds with the monitor cable on the rear of the machine. This is the computer's graphics card. Disconnect the monitor cable, then remove the screws that hold the graphics card in its place. Slide the card upwards, out of the slot. You may have to release a plastic clip on the slot in the motherboard, near the front of the card. to free it completely. Always be careful not to force any piece; you could break it.
Once you've removed the card from the case, disconnect the power cable from the front of the card,if there is a power connection, and place the card in an antistatic bag (those metallic-plastic bags). If you don't have one on hand, leave the card in a horizontal position on a clean surface and later, when you've removed the antistatic bag in which the new one came, use it to store the old card.
HOW TO INSTALL THE NEW GRAPHICS CARD
There may be two PCIe x16 slots on the motherboard. If this is the case, use the slot where the old graphics card was. If you're still not sure which to use, consult the documentation from the motherboard which should clearly identify one of them as the primary slot. Find the power cable for the PCI Express ( actually, some of today's cards need two of them) and connect it to the card's outlet. Take the time necessary to read your motherboard's guide, it'll save you lots of headaches.
Next, line up the card's gold contacts with the motherboard's slot and insert it. Some graphics cards are surprisingly large, so be careful not to strike other components nor to pull nor loosen the cables inside your equipment's case.
Press down on the top part of the card until it's well seated in the PCI Express x16 slot. The metal bracket on the rear of the card should fit tight against the case. Finally, using one or two screws, fix the card in place. Replace the side panel and connect the monitor to the graphics card.
Start up the operating system. Cancel any Windows attempt to locate the new hardware controllers and initiate your favorite web navigator. Visit www.nvidia.com or www.ati.com and download the most recent drivers for your graphics chip. The controllers will be on an executable program; after completely downloading it, execute the program. Be careful when you select the driver because if you install one for another card you'll have lots of problems, it probably won't work and you'll experience alot of errors.
Upon using Vista the User Account Control interrupts again to assure itself that you want to install the controllers. Just follow the instructions and the installation routine will take care of everything . You'll have to restart when it finishes the controller installation. After it restarts, the graphics card installation is complete.

I. FUNDAMENTOS O CONSIDERANDOS
1. Nuestro pais se encamina hacia un proceso acelerado de envejecimiento de su poblacion, a medida que disminuyen las tasas de natalidad y los planes de salud extienden la vida de los habitantes, aumentando de paso la tasa de esperanza de vida promedio.
2. En razon del incremento en el numero de adultos mayores que se observa actualmente, no solo en nuestro pais, sino en gran parte del orbe, la preocupacion por este grupo etero de la sociedad toma cada vez mas importancia desde el punto de vista politico y economico-social. En este sentido, la preocupacion por las personas de avanzada edad ha aumentado a medida que se torna conciencia del enorme crecimiento de la poblacion de adultos mayores, tanto en los paises desarrollados como en vias de desarrollo.
3. Se trata, ademas, de un sector sumamente sensible de la poblacion, que por encontrarse en los albores del ciclo de vida, presentan caracteristicas muy distintas a otros sectores poblacionales , normalmente reconocidos como "vulnerables", como lo son las mujeres y los niños, niñas y adolescentes. Generalmente, una caracteristica que se presenta con gran frecuencia en los adultos mayores, es una evidente baja en su calidad de vida, cuando no han contado, a lo largo de su desarrollo, con las herramientas que les permitan prever de antemano las precariedades de la vejez, asi como tambien, el progresivo deterioro de su salud.
4. Por otro lado, al aumentar significativamente el numero de adultos mayores, aumentan con ello, consecuencialmente, la demanda por la satisfaccion de sus necesidades basicas, exigiendo en consecuencia sistemes optimas de prevision social y una digna atencion de salud, todo lo cual obliga a los Estados a elaborar politicas que tengan por objeto velar por la plena integracion del adulto mayor a la sociedad, de tal manera de generar un cambio cultural en la sociedad que se plasme en un mejor trato y valoracion de los adultos mayores en ella.
5. Segun las cifras emanadas del Instituto Nacional de Estadisticas, en el año 2000, el numero de adultos mayores en nuestro pais era equivalente a un 10,2% de la poblacion total. En el año 2007, dicha representacion aumento a un 12,1% (2,007,691 personas mayores), y las proyecciones para los años venideros son las siguientes: para el año 2010, los adultos mayores representaran el 13% de la poblacion, y el año 2015 dicha cifra aumentara a un 20,1%.
6. En relacion a las politicas gubernamentales dirigidas a los adultos mayores en nuestro pais, desde el año 1990 estas se han desarrollado con creciente intensidad. Politicas que desembocaron finalmente en la promulgacion, en septiembre del año 2002, bajo el gobierno del ex-Presidente Ricardo Lagos Escobar, de la ley Nº19.828, que crea el Servicio Nacional del Adulto Mayor, un hecho de gran trascendencia para este sector de la poblacion.
7. Los principales objetivos de dicho servicio, segun la ley que la crea, son velar por la plena integracion del adulto mayor a la sociedad, su proteccion ante el abandono e indigencia, y el ejercicio de los derechos que la Constitucion de la Republica y las leyes le reconocen.
8. Si bien la ley establece un mandato expreso al Servicio en cuanto a obligarlo a proteger al adulto mayor frente a los casos de abandono o indigencia que lo puede afectar, la mencionada normativa nada dice respeto a las situaciones de maltrato activo de que estos pueden ser victimas.
9. Al respeto, la Organizacion Mundial de la Salud (OMS), conviene en que el maltrato de este tipo de personas se puede cometer tanto por accion como por omision ("descuido"), y que puede ser intencional o no. Ademas, puede ser de character fisico o psiquico,o puede entrañar abuso economico u otros perjuicios materiales.
Por su parte, en la ll Asamblea Mundial de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Envejecimiento, se definio el maltrato en el sentido amplio-"Cualquier acto unico o repetido o falta de accion apropiada que ocurra en cualquier relacion de confianza que cause daño o angustia a una persona mayor." Por otro lado, el Grupo de Trabajo del Consejo de Europa lo define como "Acciones u omisiones, realizadas intencionada o negligentemente que hacen referencia a daños fisicos, psiquicos o economicos en las personas mayores." Otra definicion de tipo generico dice: "Todo aquel acto u omision que lleva como resultado un daño o amenaza de daño para la salud o el bienestar de la persona mayor."
10. Las consecuencias de los efectos de la violencia fisica y psicologica sobre la salud de una persona mayor se ven aumentadas por el proceso de envejecimiento y las enfermedades propias a la vejez. Obviamente, para estas personas resulta mas dificil evadirse de una relacion de maltrato o tomar las decisiones apropiadas debido a las deficiencias fisicas y cognoscitivas que generalmente sufren. Por esta razon, es que muchos paises han impulsado acciones sociales contra el maltrato hacia el adulto mayor, ya sea por medio de Politicas Publicas, de Programas Especiales o Leyes que regulen de manera especifica dicho sector poblacional.
11. En el ambito de Programas Especiales, destacan los de Estados Unidos de Norteamerica, Reino Unido y Noruega, que cuentan con organizaciones (estatales o no gubernamentales) y sistemas de notificacion y tratamiento de maltrato de ancianos. A nivel Latinoameriacano, el Comite Latinoamericano para la Prevencion del maltrato de los Ancianos ha hecho una campaña intensa para poner esta situacion en materia de Salud Publica. Destaca en la region los programas de la ciudad de Buenos Aires, Argentina, con el programa "Proteger", que se ocupa exclusivamente de los casos de violencia de ancianos, y los de Brasil, donde desarrollan actividades de capacitacion en materia de maltrato de ancianos a cargo del Ministerio de Justicia, Salud y Prevencion Social. | Translation - English

I. WHEREAS:
1. Our country is headed toward an accelerated process in the aging of its population, as birthrates diminish and health plans extend the life of its inhabitants, thus increasing the average life expectancy rate.
2. Due to the increase in the number of older adults which is observed at present, not only in our country, but in a great part of the planet, concern for this ethereal group of society takes on evermore importance from a political and socio-economic viewpoint. In this sense, concern for the elderly has increased as awareness is focussed on the enormous growth of the older adult population, both in developed as well as developing countries.
3. We are dealing, moreover, with an extremely sensitive sector of the population, which, because it finds itself in the twighlight of the cycle of life, presents very different characteristics from other population sectors, normally acknowledged as "vulnerable", such as women and children, girls and adolescents. Generally, one characteristic frequently present in older adults is an evident decline in their quality of life, when they haven't had the advantage, during their development, of the the tools that allow preventing the precariousness of old age , as well as the deterioration of their health.
4. On the other hand, as the number of older adults is significantly increased, the demands for satisfaction of their basic necessities are consequently increased along with them, requiring, as a result, optimum social security systems and and proper health care, all of which oblige the States to create policies whose goal is to insure the complete integration of the elderly into society, and thus generate a cultural change in society resulting in a better treatment of, and higher esteem for the elderly within it.
5. According to figures released by the National Institute of Statistics, in the year 2000, the number of the elderly in our country was equal to 10.2% of the total population. In 2007, the same figure increased to 12.7% (2,007,691 elderly persons), and the projections for the coming years are as follows: By the year 2010, older adults will represent 13% of the total population, and in 2015 that number will increase to 20.1%.
With relation to those governmental policies directed toward the elderly in our country, since 1990 these have developed with growing intensity; policies which finally led to the proclamation, in 2002, during former president Ricardo Lagos Escobar's government, of Law Nº19,828, which created the National Service for the Elderly, an act of major importance for this sector of the population.
7. The main objectives of said service, according to the law which created it, are to insure the total integration of the elderly into society, their protection against abandonment and indigence, and the exercise of the rights which the Constitution of the Republic and the laws acknowledge as theirs.
8. While the law expressly establishes a mandate upon the Service as far as obliging it to protect the elderly against those cases of abandonment or indigence which may affect them, the aforementioned regulation mentions nothing with respect to situations of active mistreatment of which they may be victims.
9. In this respect, the World Health Organization (WHO), concurs that the mistreatment of persons of this type can be committed either by action or by omission ("negligence"), and may be intentional or not. Moreover, it can be of a physical or psychic nature , or may entrail economic abuse or other material damages.
For its part, in the Second World Assembly of the United Nations on Ageing, mistreatment was defined in a broad sense: "Any single or repeated act or the lack of appropriate action which occurs in any relationship of trust that causes damage or distress to an elderly person." On the other hand, the European Council Taskforce defines it as "Actions or omissions, committed intentionally or through negligence which refer to physical, psychic or economic damages to elderly persons." Another more generic type of definition states: "Any act or omission which results in the damage or threat of damage to the health or well-being of an elderly person."
10. The consequences of the effects from the physical and psychological violence on the health of an elderly person are increased by the aging process and the infirmities that accompany old age. Obviously, it is more difficult for these persons to evade a relationship of mistreatment, or make the appropriate decisions due to the physical and cognitive deficiencies from which they generally suffer.
11. In the area of Special Programs, those of the United States, the United Kingdom and Norway are outstanding, including organizations (state or non-governmental) as well as notification and treatment systems for the mistreatment of the elderly. At the Latin American level, The Latin American Comitee for the Prevention of mistreatment of the Elderly has carried on an intense campaign to place this situation within the sphere of Public Health. Highlighted within the region are the programs of the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, with the "Protect" program which is exclusively dedicated to cases of violence against the elderly, and those of Brazil, where training activities are being developed in regard to the mistreatment of the elderly headed by the Ministries of Justice, Health and Social Security.

Despues de diez años de cumplir con creces el objetivo para el cual fueron diseñadas y por el aumento de personal, hemos modernizado las instalaciones de Muñoz Arquitectos Asociados, para asi responder con eficiencia a las exigencias que su ritmo actual de trabajo demanda. Ya que la fuerza del huracan Isidoro propicio la muerte de aquel cedro que dio origen al concepto original del edificio, los planes de crecimiento hacia el frente(norte) del terreno cambiaron (mientras existio el arbol siempre se pretendio su conservacion) y permitieron concebir un espacio interior continuo y unitario que albergara los nuevos requerimientos programaticos del despacho.
La premisa del diseño fue conservar, en su mayoria, lo que fue el despacho, en una actitud de repeto a los diez años de esfuerzos y sueños. De esta manera se conservo casi en su totalidad la configuracion original del edificio al plantear la ampliacion incorporando un gran cajon a doble altura hacia el frente que techara el voladizo trapezoidal que fungia como "porche", convirtiendolo en un mezzanine del nuevo espacio interior y generando una gran ventana hacia el norte con vista hacia a las copas de los arboles vecinos y al azul del cielo de nuestras latitudes. El mobilario funge como parte intrinsica del diseño arquitectonico mediante mesetas de granito que ocultan la infraestructura tecnica y de servicios y cuya disposicion continua integra las diversas partes del programa.
El unico muro interior de la propuesta surge radial desde el centro de la curva existente y cuya altura le permite funcionar como mampara que divide la zona publica del taller sin cortar la fluencia espacial del conjunto. Un a entrada de luz cenital divide lo nuevo de lo viejo enfatizando las dos etapas de la construccion y ademas inyecta luz a la parte posterior de las oficinas mediante una parrilla que dibuja de sombras la antigua pared que antes era fachada y que hoy es la pantalla que proyecta el paso del dia y alberga las nuevas instalaciones de aire acondicionado. El sistema constructivo a base de paredes y losas de concreto prefabricado se expone al ser aparente y pretendiendo una materialidad mas sincera en la composicion. Si bien siempre hubo una actitud de respeto haca a las pre-existencias, tambien consideramos indispensable en el proyecto que se pudiera palpar un cambio ambiental en la expresion espacial. La propuesta de acabados contemplo el uso de materiales como la madera, piedra, aluminio, concreto y granito negro natural, que manejados con honestidad provocaron un cambio drastico en la imagen y la expresion del edificio y generaron contrastes que destacan los elementos del diseño. After ten years of amply fulfilling the objective for which they were designed, and due to the increase in personnel, we have updated the offices of Muñoz Arquitectos Asociados, and thus efficiently respond to the requirements which its present-day workpace demands. Since the force of Hurricane Isidore caused the demise of the cedar tree that that gave birth to the original concept of the building, the plans for expansion toward the front (north) of the lot changed (while the tree existed its preservation was always intended) and allowed for the conception of a continuous and unified interior space that contains the new program requirements of the office.
The design premise was to conserve, in its majority, what used to be the office, in an attitude of respect for the ten years of efforts and dreams. Thus, the original shape of the building was preserved almost in its entirety by proposing an addition incorporating a great double-height box toward the front that would roof over the trapezoidal overhang that once served as a "porch", transforming it into a mezzanine of the new interior space, and creating a huge window facing north with a view of the neighboring treetops and the azure of the skies in our lattitudes.
The furniture plays an intrinsic part of the architectural design through the use of granite slabs that conceal the technical and utility
infrastructures, and whose lineal arrangement integrates the various parts of the program.
The only interior wall in the proposal radiates from the center of the existing curve; its height allowing it to perform as a partition that divides the public zone from the studio without cutting off the spatial flow of the layout. A skylight divides the new from the old, emphasizing the two stages of the construction and also injecting light into the rear section of the offices through a grille that draw shadows on the old wall which was once the facade and today is the screen that projects the passage of day and houses the new airconditioning installations. The building system based on pre-fabricated concrete walls and slabs is exposed by being left apparent and thereby assuming a more sincere materiality within the composition. While there was always an attitude of respect for the pre-existant, we also considered it indispensable to the project that a palpable environmental change in the spatial expression could be felt. The proposal for finishes contemplated the use of materiales such as wood, stone, aluminum, concrete and natural black granite which, handled honestly, resulted in a drastic change of the building's image and expression, and generated contrasts that highlighted the elements of the design. With this addition, Muñoz Arquitectos Asociados is prepared to confront the coming years with installations that allow offering a better service and a work environment where the exterior complements the interior, and affords it a suitable atmosphere which displays the design principals that the studio embraces in the projects undertaken there.

QUALITY

Thanks to the restlessness of four young entrepreneurs, concerned with diffusing, recovering and preserving the style and the flavor of Mexican cuisine, Paxia is a good option to visit on one of the busiest streets in barrio de San Angel: Avenida de la Paz; and now also in Santa Fé.
The innovative in this restaurant lies in the presentation of its dishes; case in point: The "Chicharron de pollo" (Chicken crackling), served with a delicious "pico de gallo" salsa in which the tomato cubes are substituted by gelatin cubes with the same flavor.
Paxia recommends the following dishes from its menu: Stuffed chile wrapped in chicken tlanemololli, with cheese and a touch of pecan and squash-blossom salsa; Pork crackling Lasagna; Baked bone marrow with "salsa borracha", Duck in black mole sauce with rice wrapped in cornhusk, and Paxia Fillet with huitlacoche and chile poblano sauce. However, its ample menu allows us to choose from entrees like the Duck tacos with "chile de arbol" salsa, or, if you're a traditionalist; the Rib-eye tacos are an excellent alternative.
Neither should you miss trying the "Corcholatitas de pollo"(Little chicken "bottlecaps") or the Fish tacos al pastor; but if you're into classic tacos, why not a good pork crackling "Taco placero", flank steak or chorizo taco. The black bean soup is unquestionably a delight, and what can I even say about the salads with a touch of nopalitos and onions in marinade. Any discussion of a Mexican haute cuisine could not do without an excellent list of Mexican wines such as Casa de Piedra, Icaro, Ensayo, Único de Santo Tomás and Casa Madero, among other internationals.
The ideal complement from the beverage list is undoubtedly Tequila, which can only be enjoyed in a great variety of cocktails. Looking out for the minutest detail in Paxia is a constant in this restaurant, which is why you'll always find excellent service and personalized attention. The restaurant's setting is modern and elegant, and so it proudly displays our origins while combining contemporary decor with cozy lighting.
Paxia brings together traditional as well as modern elements in its decoration and an attractive blend of both. The decor of the whole restaurant represents the water, the earth and the color in our country. Pocos fueron los proyectos exitosos que se preocupaban por crear artefactos que funcionaran con luz solar. Durante el siglo XX varios proyectos desarrollados por universidades, simplemente se quedaron en eso, proyectos. Carros que en vez de usar gasolina y que prometian mejorar la calidad del ambiente al dejar de contaminar fueron dejados en el olvido debido a que, por obvias razones, solo funcionarian durante el dia.
En 1988,una mujer llamada Sheila Kennedy, fundo una compañia llamada "Kennedy & Violich Architecture", esta compañia tenia como proposito desarrollar hogares que funcionaran principalmente con energia solar. La compañia tenia grandes ideas, sin embargo, debido a los altos costos que representaban sus proyectos, ademas del poco patrocinio que recibian por parte de las compañias, para octubre del 2014, la compania de Sheila fue disuelta.
A pesar de esto, Kennedy no dejo de trabajar en prototipos para crear la casa ideal, que no dependeria directamente de la energia electrica y que su uso fuera el mas minimo. El impacto ambiental se empezo a volver mas acentuado en muchas partes del mundo, los costos seguian subiendo y se tenian que buscar soluciones. Era raro encontrar compañias que se dedicaran a desarrollar soluciones para esto, la mayoria se concentraban en aprovechar mas la energia electrica en lugar de tratar de encontrar otras fuentes de combustible. Durante un tiempo, el etanol fue nuestra salvacion, automobiles que en lugar de usar gasolina, avanzaban 100 millas por galon, sin embargo, esto no fue suficiente para detener el daño ambiental que estabamos generando.
En algun momento de la primera decada del siglo XXl, existieron empresas que desarrollaron muebles de cristal que tenian lamparas dentro de ellos, esta luz seria capaz de durar cerca de 21 años.
Kennedy seguia creando planos para crear casas, habia encontrado diversas formas de aplicar la energia que genera la luz del sol en el uso diario del hogar, encontraba todavia muy distante el dia en que los elementos basicos que conforman una casa pudieran aprovechar este tipo de energia.
...Y entonces en el MIT (ese lugar adonde se inventan las cosas que despues compramos y que hacen mas facil la vida) se desarrollaron ventanas que incluian paneles que permitian convertir la luz del sol en electricidad para esos dias calurosos, que haria funcionar nuestro aire condicionado. Sumando a este avance los paneles solares que ya se conocian, el proyecto de Kennedy por crear una zona dentro de alguna ciudad donde todas las operaciones electricas estuvieran fundadas en la energia solar [parecia aproximarse].
Durante muchas exposiciones de arquitectura alrededor del mundo , Kennedy expuso su trabajo a inversionistas y gobiernos para que pudieran financiar el proyecto. Fue entonces que una empresa japonesa preocupada por el daño ambiental y convencida de que este proyecto tenia futuro, financio la idea de Kennedy. Varios millones de dolares, 40 mil kilometros y los planos de esta mujer fueron los pilares sobre los que la primera ciudad que funcionaba con energia solar se sostuvo.
Los diseños de las casas tendrian paneles solares en los techos, que, junto con las ventanas, se conectarian a un convertidor en el sotano de los hogares, los cuales funcionarian como una pequeña planta electica. Las ventanas, al igual que los paneles colocados estrategicamente en otras partes de la casa, ademas del techo (esto dependia en gran medida del diseño de la casa), serian capaces de generar hasta 100 watts por cada 200 centimetros cuadrados, debido a que los concentradores fotovoltaicos realizarian lo mismo que sucede cuando se quema una hoja con una lupa, concentrarian toda la energia solar posible en una sola zona para despues convertirla en energia electrica y, asi, poder hacer trabajar la planta de los sotanos, logrando generar hasta 19.000 watts por hora. Es importante destacar que dentro de este proyecto tambien se tiene planeado realizar centros comerciales, edificios y algun sistema de transporte que funcione de la misma manera.
Las casas tendrian sistemas automatizadas que regularan el uso de energia dentro del inmueble, por ejemplo, detectores de movimiento para los cuartos. De este modo, el momento en que alguien entre a un cuarto, la luz se encenderia y permaneceria asi por el tiempo que el usuario haya definido antes de que se vuelva a apagar, y asi evitar luces prendidas sin usar en algun cuarto de la casa. Durante las noches, entrara en funcioncionamiento la bateria con la que cuentan todas las plantas electricas del sotano para las actividades que sean necesarias , bateria que se recarga diariamente ofreciendo hasta 6 horas de energia y con un tiempo de vida estimado de 35 años.
La region donde se encuentra ubicado esta ciudad es Hokkaido, y debido a lo ambicioso que reflejo ser el proyecto, muchas otras compañias participaron en la realizacion, empresas como IBM, el mismo MIT, Greenpeace, entre otras. Hoy en dia, esta ciudad demuestra contaminar hasta 50 veces menos, comparada con otras ciudades de su misma extension, y mediante un servicio por Internet, cualquier persona en el mundo que quiera comprar una casa de este tipo, o que desee ayudar a reducir su consumo electrico, puede cambiar su casa a una que utilice energia solar, servicio que en Estados Unidos y en Europa ha estado teniendo mucho auge. Lo importante de esto no es lo estetico o lo impresionante que pueda parecer tener un hogar asi, sino que, apesar de que sea algo tarde, estamos empezando a realizar acciones que mejoren el estado en el que se encuentra nuestro mundo.

Few were the successful projects that concerned themselves with creating devices that ran on solar energy. During the 20th-century, several projects developed by universities were simply left at that:projects. Cars that instead of using gasoline, and that promised to improve the quality of the environment by not contaminating, were consigned to oblivion since, for obvious reasons, they only functioned during the day.
In 1988, a woman named Sheila Kennedy founded a firm called " Kennedy & Violich Architecture ". The company's goal was to develop homes that functioned mainly on solar energy. The company had great ideas, however, due to the high costs represented by its projects, plus the lack of sponsorship from other companies, by October of 2014, Sheila's company was dissolved.
In spite of this, Kennedy did not cease to develop prototypes to create the ideal house, which would not depend directly on electrical energy and whose use thereof would be the very minimum. The environmental impact began to get more critical in many parts of the world, the costs kept getting higher and solutions had to be found. It was rare to find companies dedicated to developing solutions for this; the majority concentrated on better usage of electrical power instead of trying to find other sources of fuel. For a time, ethanol was our salvation, cars that ran 100 miles to the gallon, and yet, this still wasn't enough to detain the damage we were producing.
At some point during the first decade of the 21st-Century, there were some companies that developed glass furniture with built-in lamps; this light was capable of lasting nearly 21 years.
Kennedy continued to develop plans to create houses, she had found various ways to apply the energy generated by sunlight for household uses, but found that, the day when the basic elements that make up a house would be able to take advantage of this type of energy, was still very distant.
...And then, at MIT (that place where they invent the things that we later buy, and that make our lives easier) windows were developed that included panels which allowed sunlight to be converted into electricity for those warm days, when they would power our air-conditioners. Adding to this advance the solar panels that were already known, Kennedy's project to create a zone within a city where all electrical operations would be based on solar energy seemed to draw nearer.
During many architectural expositions around the world, Kennedy showed her work to investors and governments that could finance the project. It was then that a Japanese firm, concerned with the environmental damage and convinced that the project had a future, financed Kennedy's idea. Several million dollars, 40 thousand square kilometers and this woman's plans were the pillars upon which the first solar-powered city was supported.
The design of the houses would have solar panels on the roofs, which, together with the windows, would be connected to a converter in the basement of the homes, which would function as a small electric plant. The windows, as well as the panels strategically placed in other parts of the house, in addition to the roof (this would depend, in great part, on the design of the house) would be capable of generating up to 100 watts for each 200 square centimeters since the fotovoltaic condensers would work like when a leaf is burned under a magnifying glass-concentrating all of the solar energy possible on one zone to later convert into electrical power and thus, be able to work the plant in the basements, generating up to 19,000 watts per hour. It's important to point out that the project also contemplates the development of shopping centers, buildings and a system of transportation that function by the same means.
The houses would have automated systems that regulate the use of energy within the building, for example; motion detectors for the rooms. This way, the moment someone enters a room, the light would turn on and remain on for the time defined by the user before turning off again, and so avoid lights turned on without being used in some room of the house. At night, the battery included in all the basement electric plants would come into play for whatever activities are necessary; it would be recharged daily, offering up to 6 hours of energy and a 35-year estimated life span.
The city is located in the Hokkaido region, and as a result of the ambitiousness of the project, many other companies participated in its development; firms such as IBM, MIT itself, and Greenpeace, among others. Today, this city registers up to 50 times less pollution than other similar-sized cities, and by means of an internet service, anyone in the world that would like to buy a house of this type, or who wants to help reduce his electric power consumption, can change his house into one that uses solar energy; a service that has been booming in the United States and Europe. The importance of this is not the aesthetics, nor how impressive having a house such as this may seem, but rather that, in spite of it being somewhat late, we're beginning to take initiatives that will improve the state in which our world finds itself.

El aumento constante de la poblacion mundial, con mas de 75 milliones de habitantes nuevos cada año, y el gran desgaste ambiental y ecologico que enfrentamos - mas de 137 especies se extinguen diariamente y casi 280.000 metros de bosque son talados cada minuto - , sumados al incremento en la emision de dioxido de carbono como consecuencia de la quema de combustibles fosiles (casi el 40% de esos combustibles se queman para producir electricidad) son solo algunas de las multiples razones que nos han llevado a replantear desde hace algunos años la forma en la que desarrollamos e implementamos las tecnologias que integran nuestras soluciones y productos, adoptando un concepto mucho mas favorable para el medio ambiente.
Es un hecho que la demanda de energia se duplicara para el año 2030, por lo cual es necesario que las emisiones de CO2 se reduzcan a la mitad para frenar el fuerte cambio climatico que ya ha comenzado. Enfocarse en la eficiencia energetica se ha vuelto una prioridad ya que el sector informatico contribuye con el 2% de las emisiones de CO2 en el ambito mundial. Se trata de una realidad que no podemos ignorar.
De acuerdo con Gartner, hacia 2009 los costos de energia constituiran el segungo costo operativo mas alto, por debajo del costo relacionado con los recursos humanos en el 70% de las instalaciones de centros de datos de todo el mundo.
Es por eso que APC, como parte de la Division Critical Power and Cooling Services de Schneider Electric, esta comprometida a dirigir su negocio de una manera responsable desde el punto de vista ambiental. Los esfuerzos sin tregua en investigacion y desarrollo de APC han producido soluciones integrales para centros de datos sumamente eficientes en lo que se refiere a energia de respaldo, enfriamiento e infraestructura.

The constant growth of the world's population, with more than 75 million new inhabitants each year, and the huge environmental and ecological destruction that we face - more than 137 species are forced into extinction daily and almost 280,000 meters of forest are cut down each minute - , added to the increase in carbon dioxide emissions as a consequence of burning fossil fuels (nearly 40% of those fuels are burned to produce electricity) are only some of the many reasons that have led us to rethink, for some years now, the way in which we develop and implement the techniques that make up our solutions and our products, adopting a far more favorable concept for our environment.
The fact is that by the year 2030 the demand for electricity will double, which is why cutting CO2 levels in half is necessary to stop the powerful climatic change which has already begun. Focussing on energy efficiency has become a priority, especially since the data processing sector contributes 2% of the world's CO2 emissions. We're dealing with a reality which we cannot ignore.
According to Gartner, by 2009 energy costs will make up the second highest operating expenses, below the related costs of human resources in 70% of the data processing installations worldwide.
That's why APC, as part of the Critical Power and Cooling Services of Schneider Electric, is committed to managing its business in a responsible manner from an environmental viewpoint. Esta novela cuenta la historia de un hombre que de pronto comienza a recibir correspondencia fechada hace 30 años. Todas las cartas son de un hombre llamado Joseph Banner, un viejo conocido suyo originario de Rhada. Desde ese momento, la vida del protagonista da un giro completo. Al no saber el paradero de su amigo, decide ir a buscarlo, pero un suceso inexplicable lo deja inconsciente. Una pareja lo recoje y lo cuida, pero sigue sin saber de su amigo, y sólo escucha historias acerca de él.
El autor comentó que le interesaba realizar la mayor capacidad los registros del ser humano, escribir una novela rica en matices, en la que hubiera cariño, ternura, valor, y mostarlos en distintos angulos. Otro punto importante durante el proceso de escritura era que la novela lograra hacerse grandes interrogantes, que se preguntara a que aspiraba; dicha inquietud nacio de Sócrates quien comentaba que una vida sin examinarse no vale la pena ser vivida; por tanto, hay que pensar en uno como un ser que forma parte de la naturaleza, de un mundo social, y que tiene una responsabilidad como tal. Y esto es cierto: en "La Ultima Partida" el lector acompañará al personaje en un viaje, en una busqueda por su amigo, mismo que, al final, tambien se vuelve una busqueda interna.

En esta novela histórica, el lector se adentra al imperio romano para imaginar el esplendor de Julio César, quien sedujo a Cleopatra, vencio a Vercingetórix y fue un magnifico orador y brillante escritor. El libro es excelente para aquellos que buscan recrear en sus mentes épocas pasadas.
ARCHIPIÈLAGO GULAG II de Alexandr Solzhenitsyn
Al ser el aniversario luctuoso del autor ruso, les recomendamos esta obra historica de Alexandr Solzhenitsyn.
En ella el autor escribe sobre el régimen de terror que imperaba en los campos de castigo soviéticos en el siglo XX, que él mismo padeció.

This novel tells the story of a man who suddenly begins to receive correspondence dated 30 years ago. All of the letters are from a person named Joseph Banner, an old crony of his and a native of Rhada. From that moment, the life of the protagonist does a complete turnabout. Not knowing his friend's whereabouts, he decides to go find him, but an inexplicable occurrence leaves him unconscious. A couple picks him up and takes care of him, but he still knows nothing of his friend and only hears stories about him.
The author comments that he was interested in striking the deepest chords of human sensibilities, in writing a novel rich in shading, which would include affection, tenderness, courage, and show them from different angles. Another important point for him during the writing process was to succeed in making the novel ask itself important questions: to ask itself what it aspired to; a concern that arose from one of Socrates' ideas, who used to say that a life without introspection wasn't worth living. Therefore, one has to think of oneself as a being who forms part of nature,of a social world, and who has responsibilities as such. And this is true: in "The Last Farewell", the reader will accompany the book's persona on a journey, a search for his friend, which at the same time, finally ends up turning into an internal pursuit.

El tema de como convertir a los grupos humanos en sociedades sustentables ha dejado de ser una idea romantica. Hoy dia es una necesidad para cualquiera que pretenda tener un futuro viable. En practicamente todas las ramas del quehacer del hombre, el tema de la sustentabilidad esta modificando la vision de como hacemos lo que hacemos. La arquitectura no es la excepcion.
Debido al crecimiento de la firma, SPACE tuvo la necesidad de reubicar sus oficinas, lo que planteo una oportunidad unica: era momento de demostar el compromiso del despacho con la arquitectura sustentable. Asi fue como diseño uno de los primeros espacios de oficinas en America Latina con certificacion LEED CI, certificacion enfocada a espacios interiores. De esta forma,SPACE Mexico es el primer despacho de arquitectura en latino America con una oficina propia certificada.
El reto no fue sencillo: la intencion era generar un proyecto con certificacion que demostrara la viabilidad de su uso en el mercado de Mexico y que no necesariamente costara mas ni llevara mas tiempo hacerlo. El planteamiento conceptual del proyacto fue simple y complejo a la vez. No nos fue posible aplicar las reglas, tanto esteticas como funcionales, a las que estamos acostumbrados. Fue momento de replantear nuevas reglas y buscar una nueva estetica, es decir, una estetica verde.
Desde el inicio, una idea rectora nos llevo por buen camino: basarnos en las tres "R" que fundamentan toda arquitectura verde: Reducir, Reciclar y Reutilizar. El espacio es una fiel imagen do los valores y creencias de la organizacion. Es
un contenedor que fomenta la comunicacion, el trabajo en equipo y especialmente un lugar que refleja la pasion y el amor por el quehacer arquitectonico. Gracias al partido arquitectonico y al diseño luminico se lograron reducir los consumos electricos por iluminacion en un 30%. Asimismo, 75% de los materiales utilizados en la obra de este proyecto fueron de reutilizacion.
Tanto las estaciones de trabajo como, la silleria cuentan con la certificacion Cradle to Cradle. Dicha certificacion se otorga a productos que utilizan materiales saludables y seguros, que se pueden reutilizar facilmente, mismos que son fabricados por empresas que utilizan energias renovables, que maximizan el uso del agua y que cuentan con estrategias sociales.
Todos los materiales utilizados en el proyecto son de bajas o nulas emisiones de VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds), ademas de que gran parte de ellos son reciclados y rapidamente renovables. Los selladores, pinturas y adhesivos son base agua y libres de VOC, lo que asegura la calidad del aire interior. Las alfombras utilizadas cuentan con la certificacion CRI Green Label Plus, certificacion otorgadas a productos que sobrepasan estandares de bajas emisiones de VOC, tanto en adhesivos como en bajo alfombra y alfombra. Cada empleado cuenta con luz natural y vistas al exterior.
El espacio resultante es un excelente ejemplo de lo que en los Estados Unidos se conoce como el High Performance Green Space, que alinea la arquitectura, la tecnologia y el recurso humano en un area que respeta al medio ambiente y busca mejorar el desempeño de las organizaciones. SPACE MEXICO: in search of a green aesthetic
The subject of how to transform human groups into sustainable societies has ceased to be a romantic notion. Today, it's a necessity for anyone aspiring to a viable future. In practically all branches of man's endeavor, the subject of sustainability is changing the vision of of how we do what we do. Arquitecture is no exception.
Due to the firm's growth, SPACE discovered it needed to relocate its offices, which presented a unique opportunity: it was time to demonstrate the firm's committment to sustainable architecture. And so it designed one of the first office spaces in Latin America with LEED CI certification; a certification focussed on interior spaces. Thus, SPACE Mexico is the first architectural firm in Latin America with its own certified office.
The challege was not simple: The intention was to develop a certified project that demonstrated the viability of its use in Mexico's market without necessarily costing more, nor taking more time to do so. The project's conceptual proposal was simple and at the same time complex. It was impossible for us to apply the rules-aesthetic as well as functional-that we were accustomed to. It was time to rethink a new set of rules and look for a new aesthetic, that is; a green aesthetic.
From the outset, one guiding precept led us down a good path: to base ourselves on the three "R's" which are the foundation of all green architecture: Reduce, Recycle and Reuse. The space is a faithful image of the organization's values and beliefs. It's a container that breeds communication, teamwork, and especially, a place that reflects the passion and love for architectural endeavor. Thanks to the architectural plan and the lighting design, a 30% reduction in energy consumption was achieved. Likewise, 75% of the materials used in the building of the project were recycled materials.
The work stations, as well as the seating, have Cradle to Cradle certification. This certification is awarded to products that use healthy and safe materials that can be easily reused, and which are manufactured by companies that use renewable energies that maximize the use of water and employ social stategies.
All of the materials used in the project are of low or no-VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) Emissions, in addition to the great majority of them being recycled and rapidly renewable . The sealants, paints and adhesives are water-based and VOC-free, which insures interior air quality. The carpeting used has CRI Green Label Plus certification , awarded to products that exceed low VOC emissions standards, in adhesives as well as in under carpeting and carpeting. Each employee enjoys natural light and views to the exterior.
The resulting space is an excellent example of what is known in the United States as a High Performance Green Space, which aligns architecture, technology and human resource in an area that respects the environment and seeks to improve the performance of organizations. The benefits are innumerable. However, the major benefit is for ouselves, for future generations; for our world.
Once again, SPACE sets the trend in design and architecture, demostrating its committment by its example. Space is committed to the environment, to society and its surroundings.

La Casa Fatia fue seleccionada entre 200 proyectos para representar a Brasil en la IV Bienal Iberoamericana de arquitectura en Lima, Peru.
La casa, situada en un predio de 3.7 x 38.5 metros, contiene varias referencias a la arquitectura moderna brasileña y, con su compleja geometria prismatica, agrega un nuevo elemento generador de ilusiones espaciales en los interiores , abordando el tema universal de los residuos urbanos. La naturaleza cambiante del contexto urbano genera extaños lugares residuales extremadamente interesantes en terminos de planteacion y de programa.
La piscina, ubicada en el nivel superior, es el evento principal de este espacio y polariza la atencion, convertiendo al usuario en "voyeur", a la vez que constituye un homenaje al cuerpo, esa obsesion tan brasileña. La piscina esta sostenida por muros laterales , como un bloque que flota sobre la sala. A medida que cambia la luz del dia, funciona como un filtro que produce estrias en el agua. Por la noche, iluminada, se convierte en un conjunto de luces coloridas.
El proyecto se concebio como una rebanada sobre un descarte urbano , tras la apertura de una calle sobre el costado poniente del predio. Asi, el espacio quedo delimitado por unas desiciones de diseño no ortogonal, plegandose y desplegandose dentro de la forma prismatica, para generar distorsiones que crean la ilusion de un espacio mas amplio en un predio estrecho.
Una serie de paredes con mosaicos de 70 deg (tilted 70 deg walls), extienden los espacios donde el ojo es desplazado hacia otros planos, dando la ilusion de un epacio mas grande. Los techos con mosaicos crean una perspectiva forzada que distorciona la percepcion espacial, la cual se ve enriquecida al percibir la informacion contradictoria desde distintos puntos de vista.

Casa Fatia was selected from among 200 projects to represent Brazil in the IV Ibero-American Architecture Biennial in Lima. Peru.
The house, situated on a lot measuring 3.7 x 38.5 meters, contains various references to modern Brazilian architecture and, with its complex prismatic geometry, adds a new generating element of spatial illusions to the interior , addressing the universal theme of urban residue. The changing nature of the urban context creates strange residual places, extremely interesting in terms of planning and programming.
The swimming pool, located on the upper level, is the main event of this space and polarizes attention, converting the user into a "voyeur", while at the same paying homage to the body, that very Brazilian obsession. The pool is supported by lateral walls, like a block floating over the living room. As the daylight changes, it acts as a filter producing ripples on the water. At night, illuminated, it turns into a play of colored lights.
The project was conceived as a slice built over a discarded urban leftover, following the opening of a street on the west side of the lot. Thus, the space was conformed by non-orthogonal design decisions, folding and unfolding itself within the prismatic shape generating distortions that create the illusion of a larger space within the narrow lot.
A series of mosaic-tiled, 70-degree tilted walls extend those spaces where the eye is diverted toward other planes, creating the illusion of greater space. The tiled ceilings create a forced perspective that distorts spatial perception, which is enriched by perceiving contradictory information from different viewpoints.

Lo anterior da una idea de cómo piensa esta peculiar estrella, el padre del Software Libre y GNU (el alma de Linux), de quien sus "keynotes" no son en los escenarios del Consumer Electronic Show o en MacWorld, sino en pequeños auditorios universitarios donde tiene una gran cantidad de seguidores. Èl esta en pos de que la informática sea libre y respete cuatro leyes primordiales:
º Libertad 0: la libertad de usar el programa con cualquier propósito.
º Libertad 1: la libertad de estudiar cómo funciona el programa y adaptarlo a tus necesidades.

Richard M. Stallman is situated on the antipodes of celebrities like Steve Ballmer or Steve Jobs. The foregoing gives you an idea of how this peculiar star, the father of Freeware and GNU (the soul of Linux), whose "keynotes" are not given on the stages of the Consumer Electronics Show or at MacWorld, but in small university auditoriums-where he has a great number of followers, thinks. Este nuevo coche ecológico y eléctrico de la compañia Commuter Cars, con sede en Washington, tiene como principal peculiaridad su reducido tamaño, el cual está pensado para distancias cortas. A simple vista quizá parezca que no hay espacio para dos personas, pero sus creadores aseguran que puede transportarlas sin problemas. This new ecological electric car from the firm Commuter Cars, based in Washington, has as its main characteristic its small size, which has been designed for short distances. At first glance it might seem that there isn't enough space for two people, but its creators assure that it can transport them with no problems. I grew up in south Florida, where I later became a Zoning Administrator in the tiny, but very lovely City of Coral Gables ("The City Beautiful") during the mid-eighties.
Having initially studied architecture and construction technology at New York City College and Miami-Dade College; I also attended The School of Government at FIU north, and later majored in Architectural Technology at Florida International University (south campus), after a brief stint in the US Navy.
Toward the end of the Eighties, I was offered a position in the editorial department of 'Selecciones de Reader's Digest' (that produces the various Latin American editions of Reader's Digest Magazine) in Mexico City as a language and PC computer instructor for the editors, including the Magazine Editor at that time, Mr. Audon Corria. Reader's Digest had just developed the "net" (net.com) ...a pre-cursor to what we know today as the internet, and we felt very priveleged to have access to the new "information highway".
From this initial venture, I was also invited to be one of the in-house translators for the RD editorial staff, and participated in translating materials published in the magazine. Shortly thereafter, I formed a company offering executive consulting services, language instruction and professional translating services, located in Mexico City. We worked with a small, young, very experienced and extremely dynamic team of collaborators, attending the needs of executives and professionals in several important firms, including Los Pinos (the Mexican equivalent of "the White House"), Mexican state governors and administrative staffs, Banks, Ford Motor Company, Reader's Digest, Levi's de Mexico and a few others select clients.
Due to my background in architecture and construction (my family owned a small construction firm in Florida); I was eventually invited to participate in some interesting projects in different parts of Mexico, which brought me into contact with some important personalities, including some of the country's top designers, important investors and a couple of Mexican presidents.
From these contacts, I became involved in interpreting during the negotiation as well as translating construction contracts for several major firms involved in large investments in Mexico's Tourism sector, as well as translating documents to set up bank trusts (Fidecomisos), and many other such documents for contractors, architects, and (foreign) property owners investing in Mexican beachfront properties.
My association with lawyers, notaries and clients has also afforded me the opportunity to lend my services as a Spanish to English (and vice-versa) interpreter for civil cases and depositions.
I also formed a business with a friend who is a builder/general contractor, and was involved in the construction industry for over 20 years in Acapulco, where I now reside with my wife.
In 2003, I suffered a leg injury while inspecting a church renovation project and was forced to retire from active (physical) participation in construction supervision, but was subsequently invited to join the architecture faculty at Loyola del Pacifico University in Acapulco and later worked for Harmon Hall SA de CV as an English teacher and eventually, a corporate supervisor over their schools in Mexico's northern region.
