The power grid can only accommodate less than 50 percent of the newly increased hydropower available in scenario A as against 70 percent of that in scenario B. In addition, the latter scenario enables a relatively high utilization hours for both hydraulic and thermal power plants, therefore their utilization coefficients of equipment are greatly enhanced.
After 2010，the practice of a complete focus on the development of hydropower resources in a continuous manner is inappropriate due to the load characteristics of Burma’s main power grid and the output features for its planned hydro projects. If insisting on doing that, it will give rise to a decline of capacity factor for the installed hydro equipment and a low investment return.
