Quick Biography A native Canadian, I spent my childhood years in Honduras, and I first learned to read and write in Spanish in Honduran primary schools. Pressing this early advantage, I have studied languages steadily throughout my life. My BA from McGill University in Quebec included concentrations in Spanish, German, and linguistics. My Master's is in Teaching English as a Second Language, but through the years I have continued graduate-level language studies in both French and Spanish, including an advanced Spanish->English translation course, which focused on business and legal translations from Spain.
Spanish, French -> English translation Solid working ability to translate:
contracts, articles of incorporation, business fliers, civil and commercial registry documents, historical articles, annual financial reports, accreditation and curriculum documents, port and maritime construction documents, surveys, international project proposals
Interpreting Spanish<->English I have interpreted for the US Department of State, two international conferences held in Vermont - and organizations sponsoring Spanish-speaking speakers. I gladly travel in Vermont and neighboring states to assist with depositions and legal and medical interviews.
Reviewing, Editing, and Proofreading English I have frequently put my academic background in English grammar and stylistics to work by reviewing and correcting translations for translators whose native language is not English. Another specialty is simplifying complex documents to a specific reading level.
Background in Curriculum, Pedagogy, and Accreditation During my years in teaching, and in the Curriculum and Instruction division of the Vermont Department of Education, I often had the task of writing curriculum and preparing accreditation reports for educational programs from kindergarten through university. Now, although I am no longer in Vermont's state education system, I offer particular strength in education-related translations.
Wide Range of Working Fields I have been active in many fields besides education: For seven years I was employed part-time, as both interpreter and translator, by a Spanish language micro-business training program financed by USAID. In this program, groups of Hondurans were brought to Vermont for three weeks. Among those for whom I interpreted in depth were: dairy farmers, weavers, potters, restaurant owners, seamstresses, and woodworkers. Surveys, Summaries, and Reports At each program's end, I translated and summarized the participants' written evaluations, and wrote the final program report. I continue to offer strong skills in translating and summarizing surveys, in Excel or other format.
Because of my experiences in both the US and Canadian education systems, I can deliver documents using either U.S. or U.K. spelling. I also offer localization U.K. to U.S. or Canadian English.
I have a keen intellect, and a work ethic that won't quit. I take pride in using every possible resource to seek out the accurate meaning of each expression, and in crafting for my client a clear and very correct translation.
