Patent translation into Danish for the EPO and US attorneys involved with litigation.

Several medical articles (some for publication) in English translated from Spanish, German and Russian.

I have been working as a translator (and interpreter) since 1984, when I was employed by a local subsidiary of a German company to do their in-house translations and other related work. Subsequently, I have been working as a free-lance translator while studying for my Ph.D. in German and linguistics at the Georgetown University, beginning in 1987. I have worked for many translation agencies around the country, e.g., in New York, Boston, and Washington, D.C., and federal (U.S. government) agencies, such as the State and Justice Departments, the National Institutes of Health, and the Johns Hopkins University's POP-line, where in 1989, I wrote abstracts of population and birth control articles from the entire European domain of languages. Also, I have done major input and exploratory work, especially in the languages of Russian and Hungarian for Globalink, which was the largest machine-translation company in the mid-nineties.I am an active member of the American Translators Association, and other similar organizations in the US and overseas, e.g., SFOe.

I (personally) can provide translations into English from Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, German, Dutch, and also French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Czech, Croatian, Slovak and Russian. Most of these languages I can sight-read and translate orally in a fluent manner.  Into foreign language competence: Danish and Swedish, and also German. I have a large collection of tapes, books and other instructional material, and I have a substantial library of dictionaries and foreign language reference materials, including electronic dictionaries and glossaries. Interpretation, simultaneous or consecutive (dialog) from and into Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and German I can handle in such areas as legal depositions, business and political meetings, and teleconferencing. I passed the U.S. Department of State's interpreting test for Danish, Swedish and German. I was an interpreter for the ATT Communications and Language Line, a phone-based interpreting service, for several years. I have interpreted for C-SPAN on three occasions. I have transcribed foreign-language tapes for one major television network and newspaper articles used in broadcast for another (60  Minutes on CBS - broadcast on East Germany) in 1991.  I also have done Swedish translations and transliterations recently for the Late Show on NBC with Conan O’Brien.

Voice-over can be done for Danish, German and Swedish.

Areas of general, broad-brush expertise are: Patents, chemistry, medicine, commerce, science, law (corporate, litigation, patent, family), software localization, etc. I have done numerous litigation translations, typically on a rush basis. Generally speaking, however, most areas can be researched on the Internet through search engines. Types of translation output into foreign language have been user and technical manuals, instructional "How-To" handbooks, websites. Promotional sales literature and ad copy. Legal documents and extracts. Evaluation of websites, as well as brand names in a foreign setting. Relevant software capabilities: Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows Vista, WordPerfect, Trados/SDLX, WordFast localization tools.
