When she moved into his tiny house in Stroud, and took charge of his four small children, Mother was thirty and still quite handsome. She had not, I suppose, met anyone like him before. This rather priggish young man, with his devout gentility, his airs and manners, his music and ambitions, his charm, bright talk, and undeniable good looks, overwhelmed her as soon as she saw him. So she fell in love with him immediately, and remained in love for ever. And herself being comely, sensitive, and adoring, she attracted my father also. And so he married her. And so later he left her - with his children and some more of her own.
When he'd gone, she brought us to the village and waited. She waited for thirty years. I don't think she ever knew what had made him desert her, though the reasons seemed clear enough. She was too honest, too natural for this frightened man; too remote from his tidy laws. She was, after all, a country girl; disordered, hysterical, loving. She was muddled and mischievous as a chimney-jackdaw, she made her nest of rags and jewels, was happy in the sunlight, squawked loudly at danger, pried and was insatiably curious, forgot when to eat or ate all day, and sang when sunsets were red. She lived by the easy laws of the hedgerow, loved the world, and made no plans, had a quick holy eye for natural wonders and couldn't have kept a neat house for her life. What my father wished for was something quite different, something she could never give him - the protective order of an unimpeachable suburbia, which was what he got in the end.
The three or four years Mother spent with my father she fed on for the rest of her life. Her happiness at that time was something she guarded as though it must ensure his eventual return. Când s-a mutat în căsuţa lui din Stroud şi i-a luat în grijă pe cei patru copii ai lui, Mama avea treizeci de ani şi era încă destul de atrăgătoare. Cred că nu cunoscuse pe nimeni asemeni lui până atunci. Acest tânăr destul de pedant, cu blândeţea sa evlavioasă, cu fasoanele şi manierele sale, armonia şi ambiţiile sale, farmecul său, senin la vorbă şi chipeş fără îndoială, a copleşit-o de la prima vedere. Astfel că se îndrăgosti de el de îndată şi rămase pe veci îndrăgostită. Şi cum era şi ea atrăgătoare, delicată şi tandră, i-a plăcut şi ea tatei. Şi aşa a luat-o de soţie. Era aiurită şi neastâmpărată ca o stăncuţă la coşul casei, îşi făcea cuibul din zdrenţe şi giuvaeruri, se bucura de soare, ţipa strident a pericol, iscodea şi era veşnic curioasă, uita să mânănce sau mânca toată ziua şi cânta la apusul roşu al soarelui. Trăia după legea simplă a tufelor de verdeaţă, iubea lumea fără să-şi facă planuri, privea cu sfinţenie la miracolele naturii şi nu-şi putea face ordine în casă pentru nimic în lume. Tatăl meu îşi dorea altceva, ceva ce ea nu i-a putut oferi niciodată – siguranţa unui cartier disciplinat şi impecabil, de care a şi avut parte în cele din urmă.
Pentru tot restul vieţii s-a hrănit cu acei trei sau patru ani pe care Mama îi petrecuse alături de tatăl meu. Păzea acel dram de fericire de atunci ca şi cum aceasta l-ar aduce, în cele din urmă, înapoi. 6.3.2 Vertical drive shaft and drives (Fig. 5A, 7)
Insert the top parts of the drive shaft of the earthing switch (5.9 Fig. 5A) into the
connection sleeve.
Lift the shaft as much as possible to prevent hindering the installation of the drives.
Make sure that the drive has the same serial number as the earthing switch; lift the
drive, as shown in Fig. A, and in the position shown in the installation drawing DIN-
0…, install it onto the supporting structure without tightening fully the fastening bolts.
Set the drive of the earthing switch to the OPEN positions.
Position the internal support tube (8.15 Fig. 8A) horizontally as shown in Fig. 8A.
Position the levers (5.6 and 5.8) with the angles shown in Fig. 5A.
Lower the drive shaft 7.2 and insert it into the connection clamp 7.5 of the drive.
Insert the pin 7.4 into the hole on the top part of the shaft 7.2 and lock the pin with
the special split washers.
Lock the shaft 7.2 in the clamp 7.5 of the drive by tightening the screws 7.3.
Concerning the connection of the vertical drive shafts to the respective drives and
any required adjustment of the drives, see also the relevant installation manuals of
the drives.

Arbore de acţionare vertical şi dispozitive de acţionare (Fig. 5A, 7)
Inseraţi părţile superioare ale comutatorului de legare la pământ (5.9 Fig. 5A) în manşonul de conectare.
Ridicaţi arborele cât mai mult posibil pentru a evita împiedicarea montării dispozitivelor de acţionare.
Asiguraţi-vă ca arborele să aibă acelaşi număr de serie ca şi comutatorul de legare la pământ; ridicaţi dispozitivul de acţionare, aşa cum se arată în figura A, şi în poziţia arătată în desenul de montaj DIN-0…, montaţi-l în structura de suport fără a strânge complet prezoanele de fixare.
Setaţi dispozitivul de acţionare pe comutatorul de legare la pământ în poziţia DESCHIS.
Poziţionaţi tubul de suport intern (8.15 Fig. 8A) orizontal aşa cum se arată în figura 8A.
Poziţionaţi pârghiile (5.6 şi 5.8) cu unghiurile arătate în figura 5A.
Coborâţi arborele de acţionare 7.2 şi inseraţi-l în clema de conectare 7.5 a dispozitivului de acţionare.
Inseraţi ştiftul 7.4 în gaura de pe partea superioară a arborelui 7.2 şi blocaţi ştiftul cu şaibe speciale spintecate.
Blocaţi arborele 7.2 în clema 7.5 a dispozitivului de acţionare prin strângerea şuruburilor 7.3.
În ceeace priveşte conectarea arborelui de acţionare vertical la dispozitivele de acţionare respective şi pentru ajustarea necesară a dispozitivelor de acţionare, vedeţi de asemenea manualele de montaj relevante ale dispozitivelor de acţionare.
