Nevertheless, there was a time in the past when Sagittarius aimed this shaft exactly on target. The pointer star Gamma Sagittarii happens to have one of the highest proper motions of all the stars in the Sagittarius constellation. Over the millennia, its sky position has been moving to the right toward lower galactic longitudes. The arrow's tail moves in a similar direction, but more slowly. As a result, the arrow has been gradually tipping away from its target. Projecting the arrow's position back in time, we find the Archer gradually raising his aim and firing dead center on the Scorpion's Heart around 15,870±150 years ago, or about 15,865 b2k (before year 2000). Hereafter we will use the abbreviation b2k to indicate dates referenced to the year 2000 AD.
When following this flight path, the arrow deviates from the Galactic center by just 0.35∞ galactic longitude, an angular distance spanning about 70 percent of a full moon diameter! Sagittarius' arrow indicator would have pointed directly at the Galactic center at an earlier time around 18,200 years ago. However, then the trajectory would have passed about one degree of arc to the north of Scorpio's Heart. So, to be true to the myth, we must adopt the flight path of 15,865 b2k as the intended sighting.
References may be found to the Scorpius constellation dating back to times as early as 5000 B.C., and Sagittarius, which in India was represented in the form of a horse, was mentioned as early as 3000 B.C. However, the arrow trajectory discussed above suggests an even earlier origin for the zodiac, one that predates recorded history to a time before the end of the last ice age!

ADAPTING MANAGEMENT APPROACHES TO BEHAVIORAL STYLE
As discussed earlier, the first step in developing a performance management action plan is to select a management approach based on your evaluation of the individual's levels of ability and willingness. In the previous video exercise you practiced evaluating willingness and ability' and selecting either a Directive, Supportive, Empowering, or Combination management approach based on your evaluation. The next step in developing strategies for managing performance is to identify the person's behavioral style. Then, you can select the specific strategy for applying the management approach that will be most effective for someone with that style. Several different people may need the same management approach because they share similar levels of willingness and ability. However, the specific strategy for how you use that same management approach will be different, based on an individual's style.
For example, you would use a Directive management approach differently with someone with a Dominance style than with someone who has a Steadiness behavioral style. Also, you would use a Supportive management approach differently with someone with an Influence style than someone with a high Conscientiousness style. By adapting your management approach to an individual's behavioral style, you can be even more effective in managing performance.
The guidelines on the following pages can be used to select the most appropriate and effective management approaches based on a person's willingness, ability, and behavioral style.
