Dutch (The Netherlands) is my mother tongue. I pretend to be fluent in English, proficient in German and French, and I have developed advanced reading skills in Afrikaans, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Spanish and Thai. Besides, I have profound knowledge of the specific vocabulary and syntax used in Flemish (Dutch Belgium).

My flair for languages seems rooted in my family, with four other (semi-)professional translators and two literary writers. I am a (yet) unpublished writer of both poetry and prose.

I have been living and working outside Europe for about nine years and now permanently live and work in Thailand. In 2003, I started a new career here as a professional, full time, freelance translator. I work for all major translation offices in Thailand, as well as for ten elsewhere in Asia, in Europe and North-America.

Prior work experience includes positions in The Netherlands, South America, Africa and Asia, in sales, finance, administration, management and language education at SME’s as well as for the local government. Besides, I have been a self-employed part-time art dealer for ten years.

I have vast experience in translating dozens of user manuals (Eng>Dutch) and many hundreds of life event certificates (>10 pairs).

I use a productivity and accuracy enhancing CAT tool, personally developed and integrated in Office 2003. As for Translation Memory, I rely on my head in combination with comprehensive glossaries for eight languages, which I have been compiling since 2003.

I am a highly skilled and experienced internet researcher.

Working hours: I work at home, an office that never closes, mostly eight days a week from ± 3 AM – 3 PM GMT.
General availability: usually several hours per day, depending on ongoing commitments.

Estimated average response time to an email: during working hours less than half an hour.
Daily output: ± 1,500 words (depending on pair, subject, source format, etc.)
