I translate to English from Dutch, German, or Latin. My expertise is philosophy (in which I have a PhD), but also education. I also do some work in journalism and PR, and I am an avid (and published) music critic.
My day job is translating and editing for an academic journal, but I also do translation and re-writing work for my Dutch-speaking university (Dutch > English).
Currently, I am one-third through a translation (and critical edition) of Alexander Baumgarten's De Metaphysica (Latin > English), which should be completed by the winter of 2009. I am in negotiations with a publisher.
Finally, I am also learning Chinese - not with the intention of ever translating it, but rather to learn more about the structure of language (and thought) itself through a non-Western language. But to be honest, it is the most exciting language I have ever worked with. |
