Att arbeta i skolan med frågor om våld, maskulinitet och jämställdhet.
Män står för nästan åttio procent av alla våldsbrott i Sverige. I nära relationer är andelen ännu högre. Är män våldsamma av naturen, eller slår män för att våld anses manligt?
Vilket svaret än blir så är följdfrågan det viktigaste:
Hur kan vi minska våldet?
Utbildningsmaterialet “Ingen ser oss” är framtaget för att ge diskussionsledare kunskap och metoder för konkret och effektivt arbete kring frågorna våld, maskulinitet och jämställdhet. Materialet består av ett undervisnings- och diskussionsmaterial samt en novellfilm. Ingångarna i materialet varierar beroende på åldersgrupp, men de övergripande frågorna är desamma. Varför brukar fler män än kvinnor våld? Vad får våldet för konsekvenser? Vad kan vi göra åt det?
Det är en rättighet att slippa bli slagen. Därför måste vi arbeta förebyggande mot våld. Det är också en rättighet att slippa slå och att få växa upp i ett samhälle där våld och kontroll inte står som ideal. Därför måste vi tala om kopplingen mellan våld och maskulinitet.
Projektets syfte
Materialet till projektet är utvecklat för att användas som ett inspirerande och effektivt hjälpmedel i jämställdhetsarbetet på din skola eller arbetsplats. Genom att diskutera våld, mansideal och maktrelationer kan vi ifrågasätta de normer som sätter likhetstecken mellan manlighet och våld. Syftet är att skapa förutsättningar för ett aktivt jämställdhetsarbete som kan medverka till att bygga upp nya strukturer, värderingar och attityder som motverkar våld och diskriminering. Diskussionen om maskulinitet ser vi också som en spännande ingång för att engagera unga killar och män i jämställdhetsarbete.
Med filmen som utgångspunkt
Titeln Ingen ser oss syftar på den stora grupp i samhället som brukar våld men som det inte talas om. Filmen är 40 minuter lång och handlar i första hand om Martin och hans våldsamma beteende gentemot sin familj. Den visar hur misshandel i en nära relation kan se ut ur en förövares perspektiv. Varje kapitel i utbildningsmaterialet återknyter till en eller flera av karaktärerna i filmen och ger oss handfasta exempel att utgå ifrån och resonera kring. På DVD-skivan finns också specialklippta scener att använda under diskussionspassen. Utöver det finns dessutom anvisningar till diskussionsledaren med filmade exempel på hur övningarna kan gå till.
Ur innehållet
Diskussionsmaterialet är baserat på filmens handling och utgår från tre fokus: vad är våld, normalisering och maskulinitet. I varje tema ingår också förslag på förändringsstrategier och alternativa möjligheter.
Med fokus på barnen
Under rubriken “Vad är våld?” diskuteras olika möjliga definitioner av begreppet våld samt hur våld kan ta sig olika former och uttryck. Med hjälp av karaktären Frej ur filmen utforskar vi också barns utsatthet i familjer med våld.
Med fokus på kvinnan
I avsnittet om våldets normaliseringsprocess arbetar vi med den seglivade myten att det bara är en viss grupp kvinnor som hamnar i relationer där de utsätts för våld. Utifrån karaktärerna Livs och Thereses livssituationer visar vi hur våldet normaliseras i misshandelsrelationer. Här tittar vi också på vad skillnaden mellan en våldsam och en “vanlig” relation är. Deltagarna lär sig identifiera tidiga tecken på att en relation är ohälsosam. Passet avslutas med information om hur man söker hjälp när man befinner sig i en våldsam relation.
Med fokus på mannen
Projektets kärnfråga ligger i den tredje delen av diskussionsmaterialet där vi talar om maskulinitet och konstruktionen av manlighetsideal. Detta pass är därför längre än de andra. Tillsammans utforskar vi de idealsom finns för män och vad de får för konsekvenser för oss alla. Syftet med det här kapitlet är att motarbeta våldsideal samt förtydliga det ansvar varje man har för sin egen manlighet. Den våldsamme Martin och hans relation till grannen Lennart används som exempel på hur maskulinitet skapas och upprätthålls. Deltagarna får tillsammans med diskussionsledaren fundera kring vilken manlighet som är eftersträvansvärd och vem som har ansvar för att män slår.
Varje kapitel kan både användas var för sig eller kombineras fritt beroende på vad man tycker är viktigt och vill prioritera. Materialet går att använda under flera lektioner/träffar, till exempel ett gång i veckan under en månads tid, alternativt under en temadag.
I materialet ingår såväl fakta som diskussionsfrågor och gruppövningar. Studiematerialet ger diskussionsledaren en grundlig vägledning och faktabakgrund och innehåller gruppövningar som är enkla att förstå.
Projektets vision
Våld behöver inte vara en del av våra liv - varken i hemmet, skolan eller samhället i övrigt. Vi har möjligheten och rätten att välja bort våld. För att kunna göra det måste vi bli medvetna om dess orsaker och inom vilka strukturer våldet odlas som ideal.
Med projektet Ingen ser oss vill vi, tillsammans med personal på skolor och arbetsplatser, starta en process som leder till en ökad medvetenhet om våldets koppling till dagens manlighetsideal och skapa förutsättningar för förändring.
Om oss
Amphi produktion är ett företag som verkar inom området för utbildning och skolutveckling. Verksamheten består av två huvudområden, det ena är produktion av undervisningsmaterial i form av film och texter och det andra är fortbildning av personal som arbetar med utbildning.
Vår idé är att skapa diskussionsunderlag av hög kvalitet som ska kunna användas på ett tydligt och varierande sätt. Fokus i projektet Ingen ser oss är kopplingen mellan våld och manlighetsideal. Den teoretiska grunden finner man i den moderna maksulinitetsforskningen och teorier om maskulinitet som social konstruktion. Initiativet till projektet kommer från Sveriges Kvinnojourers Riksförbund (SKR), och är utvecklat med stöd ur Allmänna arvsfonden.
Arbeta vidare
Vi tror att grundlig utbildning i ett arbetsmaterial leder till bättre resultat. Därför erbjuder vi alla som är intresserade av materialet att delta i en utbildning om våld, maskulinitet och jämställdhet där vi också går igenom hur utbildningsmaterialet Ingen ser oss kan användas. Vid ett och samma utbildningstillfälle försöker vi samla representanter från flera skolor i området, så att dagen både handlar om lärande och om att utbyta erfarenheter.
Dessa utbildningar sker i samarbete med ABF Göteborg och ABF Västra Götaland som subventionerar utbildningstillfällena med 70 % av kostnaden. Antalet subventionerade utbildningar i Västra Götaland är begränsat och först till kvarn-principen gäller. Materialet går att beställa på plats under utbildningen eller via telefon efter utbildning.

Working with questions regarding violence, masculinity and equality in schools.
Men are responsible for almost eighty percent of all violent crime in Sweden. In close relationships the proportion is even higher. Are men violent by nature, or do they use violence because it is considered manly?
Whatever the answer is, it is the follow-up question that is most important:
How can we reduce the violence?
The education material “No one sees us” is developed to give discussion leaders knowledge and methods for concrete and effective discussions on questions of violence, masculinity and equality. The material consists of a teaching- and discussion pack as well as a short movie. How the material is approached varies according to age group, but the main questions remain the same. Why do more men than women use violence? What are the consequences of this violence? What can we do about it?
It is a human right not to be beaten. That is why we have to work preventatively against violence. It is also a human right to not have to use violence and to be allowed to grow up in a society where violence and domination are not considered ideals. That is why we have to discuss the connection between violence and masculinity.
The aim of the project
The material is developed to be used as an inspiring and effective tool in the work for equality at your school or workplace. By discussing violence, male ideals and power relationships we can question the norms the equate masculinity and violence. The purpose is to create conditions for active equality work that can contribute to building new structures, values and attitudes that counteracts violence and discrimination. We also see the discussion about masculinity as an exciting way of engaging young boys and men in equality work.
With the movie as a starting point
The title No one sees us refers to the large group in society that use violence but is never mentioned. The movie is 40 minutes long and centres primarily on Martin and his violent behaviour towards his family. It shows how physical abuse in a close relationship can look from the point of the perpetrator. Each chapter of the education material refers to one or more of the characters in the movie and gives clear examples to start from and discuss. There are also specially edited scenes on the DVD that can be used during the discussions. Apart from that there are also instructions for the discussion leader, with filmed examples of how the exercises could work.
From the story
The discussion material is based on the story of the film and focuses on three areas: what is violence, normalisation and masculinity. In each area there are also suggestions for change-strategies and alternative options.
Focusing on the children
Under the heading "What is violence?" different possibilities of definitions of the term violence are discussed, as well as how violence can take different forms and expressions. Using the character Frej from the movie we also explore the exposed position of children in violent families.
Focusing on the woman
In the section about the normalisation process of violence we look at the persistent myth that only a certain group of women end up in relationships where they are subjected to violence. From the viewpoint of the characters Liv's and Therese's different life situations we show how violence is normalised in physical abuse situations. Here we also look at the difference between a violent and a "normal" relationship. The participants learn how to identify early signs of an unhealthy relationship. The session ends with more information on how to find help when you are in a violent relationship.
Focusing on the man
The core question of the project lies in the third part of the discussion material where we talk about masculinity and the construction of a male ideal. This session is therefore longer than the other two. Together we explore the ideals that are available for men and what consequences they have for us all. The purpose of this chapter is to work against ideals of violence and to clarify the responsibility every man has for his own masculinity. Violent Martin's relationship with his neighbour Lennart is used as an example of how masculinity is created and maintained. The participants, together with the discussion leader, get to reflect on what masculinity is worth striving for and who it is that is responsible for men using violence.
Each chapter can be used on its own, or combined freely with the others, depending on what you think is important and want to prioritise. The material can be used during several lessons/sessions, for example once a week over a month, or, alternatively, over the course of a single day.
It contains relevant facts as well as discussion questions and group exercises. The study material provides the discussion leader with thorough guidance and factual information, and contains group exercises that are easy to understand.
Our vision
Violence does not have to be a part of our lives - neither in our homes, in school nor in society as a whole. We have the opportunity and the right to say no to violence. To enable us to do so we must become aware of its causes and within which structures violence is cultivated as an ideal.
With the project No one sees us we want to, together with staff at schools and workplaces, start a process that leads to an increased awareness of the connection between violence and the masculinity ideals of today, and create the conditions for change.

The project No one sees us is a collaboration between the Swedish Association of Women’s Shelters (SKR) and Amphi Produktion. Amphi Produktion is a company that operates in the education and school development area.
The focus in the project No one sees us is the connection between violence male ideals. It is grounded in modern masculinity studies and theories about masculinity as a social construct. The project is developed with the support of Allmänna arvsfonden.
