Hil Driessen (1963) is in 1990 afgestudeerd als modevormgever aan de Kunstacademie Maastricht. Sinds die tijd creëert en ontwikkelt zij materialen, waarbij zij veelal ‚waardeloze’ materialen als rubber en skai transformeert tot beeldende materialen. De gelaagdheid, die zij tot standbrengt door te werken met stiksels, te watteren, te voeren, te verhitten is een van de kenmerken van haar dessins. Sinds 1998 maakt zij gebruik van de digitale inkjetprinter. Bewerkte stoffen worden digitaal gefotografeerd, bewerkt, uitvergoot en geprint op verschillende textiele materialen die vele toepassingsvormen en uitwerkingen kennen. Voor de collectie Into Focus – 2003 wordt de digitaal gefotografeerde fragiele en halftransparante structuur van in een gietklei gedoopte gehaakte vorm uitvergroot op textiel geprint, maar ook verwerkt in tapijten, laminaat en meubels die samen een Gesammtkunstwerk vormen. De digitale inkjetprinter biedt haar de mogelijkheid het transformatieproces van stof verder op te rekken en het textiel te ‚dematerialiseren’, zodat stoffen verdwijnen en nieuwe verschijnen. Haar collecties hebben schitterende titels als A sense of Frost of Illusion waardoor het gedematerialiseerde karakter van haar ontwerpen goed tot uitdrukking wordt gebracht.

Hil Driessen (1963) graduated as fashion designer from the Art Academy of Maastricht. Since then she creates and develops material in which she transforms for the most part worthless material such as rubber and synthetic leather into visual art materials. One of the characteristics of her designs is the layered effect that she creates by applying stitching, padding, lining and heat. Since 1998 she has used the digital inkjet printer. Treated fabrics are digitally photographed, digitally manipulated, enlarged and printed on diverse textile materials with many forms of application and effects. For the collection 'Into Focus - 2003', the digital photograph of a fragile and semi transparent structure of a crocheted shape that had been dipped in clay was enlarged and not only printed on fabric but also incorporated onto carpets, laminates and furniture that together form a "Gesammtkunstwerk''. The digital printer offers her the possibility to further extend the transformation process possibilities of fabric and to 'dematerialize' the textile so that fabrics disappear and reappear as new. Her collections have striking titles such as 'A sense of Frost' or 'Illusion' through which the dematerialized character of her designs is well expressed. |

My first career was as an English teacher and I have always loved to read and write. After twenty odd years as a textile conservator and tutor/trainer, a sea change returns me to language as a main occupation. My interests are ridiculously broad but the common thread is cultural heritage, from cooking and agriculture to art, decorative arts and architecture. I also have a broad experience of study, work and life. Through my teaching I have gained much experience in academic and technical texts. I can not only be intuitive and imaginative but also accurate and technical. My reading comprehension is very good. Translation fits nicely.
Since about 1997, after 10 years in the Netherlands, translation projects have been coming my way as there is so little specialization in the cultural heritage field amongst translators. At first I felt somewhat guilty about not being a 'professional' translator but after reading a book on the subject, and finding nothing surprising, I realised that the conservators' code of ethics and practice offers pretty much the same guidelines: e.g., respect for the original, knowing your limitations etc..
Having worked in institutions, served on executive committees and successfully run my own business, my work approach is businesslike and flexible. Although I cannot claim to be able to work very fast or for 18 hours a day anymore, I really enjoy a challenge as far as content goes: bring on the difficult, tricky, weird or quirky stuff!
