1.1 Les objectifs de la reconnaissance d’un site granitique
La description géologique d’un massif granitique se fonde sur l’intégration des données relatives à la structure du granite étudié, notamment sa fracturation, et à la nature minéralogique et géochimique des roches qui le composent.
Les propriétés hydrogéologiques et hydrogéochimiques du massif sont aussi des éléments essentiels de la caractérisation d’un site granitique. Elles concernent à la fois le contexte hydrogéologique général du site, les paramètres hydrauliques contrôlant la circulation de l’eau dans les fractures et les facteurs hydrogéochimiques conditionnant le transfert et la rétention de radionucléides.
Les propriétés géomécaniques et thermiques du granite sont également des éléments nécessaires au dimensionnement d’un stockage ; elles doivent être caractérisées tout au long des travaux de reconnaissance.

1.1 The aims of exploring a granite site
The geological description of a granite massif is based on the integration of data relating to the structure of the granite studied, especially fracturing, and the mineralogical and geochemical nature of the rocks forming the massif.
The hydrogeological and hydrogeochemical properties of the massif are also essential components in characterising a granite site. They concern the general hydrogeological context of the site, hydraulic parameters controlling water circulation in the fractures and hydrogeochemical factors conditioning radionuclide transfer and retention.
The geomechanical and thermal properties of granite also need to be considered on dimensioning the repository; they must therefore be characterised throughout the exploratory phase.
