TRAFICO DE PERSONAS: DESDE UN VIAJE VERTICAL A UN VIAJE HORIZONTAL
El tráfico de personas es una forma de tragedia humana que pone en peligro la dignidad del grupo marginal formado por las mujeres y las niñas. Es una reflexión de la relación desigual entre los ricos y los pobres, las mujeres y los hombres, los países desarrollados y los países en vías de desarrollo. La globalización ha agravado esta desigualdad y ha hecho que la gente del Sur suponga una mina de mano de obra barata para los países industrializados o recientemente industrializados. La exportación de mano de obra ha sido vista durante décadas como una estrategia para ganar dinero en el extranjero por parte de muchos países del Sur, donde la gente no privilegiada ve la emigración al extranjero para trabajar como una forma viable de sobrevivir económicamente. La desigualdad en los géneros y la discriminación en el mercado laboral internacional hace que las mujeres trabajen principalmente en el sector de la industria del sexo en el que son a menudo abusadas y explotadas. La gran diferencia entre el número de empleos disponibles en países extranjeros y la mano de obra proveniente de la emigración deja un lugar para el contrabando y el tráfico de personas. La normativa proteccionista de la inmigración y las medidas restrictivas referidas a la emigración regular por motivos laborales en los países de destino fuerzan a los emigrantes que traspasan fronteras a depender de los contrabandistas y los traficantes y a pagarles con un precio alto; a veces incluso con sus vidas. El tráfico de personas se ha convertido en un tema de preocupación internacional pero todavía se ha conseguido poco en cuanto a la protección de los derechos humanos de las mujeres y niñas sometidas a tráfico.
Me gustaría exponerles el caso de Tailandia para ilustrar la situación del tráfico de personas y resaltar algunos puntos para una posterior consideración de las acciones apropiadas para abordar el tema del tráfico de las mujeres y las niñas.

Handel ludźmi jest rodzajem ludzkiej tragedii, która zagraża godności marginesowej grupy tworzonej przez kobiety i dziewczynki. Odzwierciedla on nierówności między bogatymi i biednymi, kobietami i mężczyznami, krajami rozwiniętymi i rozwijającymi się. Globalizacja pogłębiła te różnice i spowodowała, że ludność z południa jest dla krajów uprzemysłowionych, lub od niedawna uprzemysłowionych, kopalnią taniej siły roboczej. Handel ludźmi stał się źródłem międzynarodowej troski, ale jak do tej pory niewiele udało się zdziałać na polu ochrony praw człowieka kobiet i dziewczynek będących przedmiotem tego procederu.
Chciałabym przybliżyć sytuację Tajlandii dla zilustrowania problemu handlu ludźmi oraz wyróżnić parę kwestii do późniejszego rozważenia, związanych ze stosownymi działaniami prowadzącymi do rozwiązania problemu handlu kobietami i dziewczynkami.

Aids are physical pressures a rider uses to communicate with the horse. When the horse responds correctly to the pressure, the pressure goes away. So a correct response rewards the horse.
Think of individual aid pressures as words that have a specific meaning to the horse: change gait, go left, go right. As both horses and riders progress in their training, they begin combining several aids into sentences with greater nuances of meaning than a single word: get ready for an extended trot after we make this left turn, spin to the left when you come to the end of this slide.
Aids are not the same as cues. The horse responds to voice commands or to a click that means trot, or a bump that means canter is responding to conditioned cues. This is a different communication system and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. The problem is that riders communicating with their horses via cues are working with a very limited vocabulary. Riders communicating via the aids have a full, rich vocabulary with many shades of meaning. In order to take a horse to the upper levels in any sport, you need this larger vocabulary.
The natural aids consist of the legs, the seat or weight aids, and the hands or rein aids. We put these aids together into corridors of pressures that the horse feels as a shape we want him to take. Because, we can vary the pressure of any aid, good riders can apply them with great finesse or shades of meaning to communicate hundreds of variations of shape to the horse.
Leg aids are used primarily as driving aids that ask the horse to move a hind leg forward. A rider puts a leg aid on the horse by pressing with the inside of the lower leg (with the toe pointing forward, not out). Leg aids can be applied with varying degrees of pressure and in different sequences to ask for specific shapes. When both legs actively apply driving pressure, we call that a bilateral leg aid. Some examples would be asking the horse to move from a halt to a walk or from a walk to a trot.
When only one leg is actively pressing and asking the horse to move the hind leg on that side forward while the other just softly holds and steadies, we call it a unilateral leg aid. Some examples would be asking the horse to turn while in motion or to pick up a canter depart.
Weight aids are the second category of aids we have to use as communication tools. We talk about burdening weight aids where the rider drops more weight onto her seat bones and makes her seat feel heavier to the horse. The opposite of that is unburdening or decreasing the weight on your seat bones and making your weight lighter in the saddle. Like leg aids, weight aids can be applied bilaterally or unilaterally. It’s important to understand that when the amount of weight carried on a particular seat bone changes, the rider’s upper body position should not change. The upper body should not lean. The hip should not collapse. The rider simply drops a little more weight into one or both seat bones.

Łydki są przede wszystkim używane do nadawania impulsu i wymagają od konia przesunięcia tylnej nogi do przodu. re-imagining skiing—one sport, or many?...
an essay about different ways of thinking about skiing
Those of your who have been reading my columns, my essays and my web site for a while, can probably guess the answer I am going to propose for the rhetorical question above: Is skiing one sport or many? Skiing is...take you choice. Multidimensional, multifaceted, an endlessly rich and varied experience. The sport of skiing I dream about during those long warm summer months, is surely different than the sport you daydream about. So yes, skiing is many sports, all different, all satisfying.
This is interesting, but is it important? Perhaps. Because what we imagine when we think about skiing is probably very close to what we experience when we actually get to the slopes, buy a lift ticket, and find ourselves once more on top of a white world.
Skiing for an excited athletic teenager is probably all about rivalry, competition, testing one’s limits and pushing them a bit further. A sport where peer pressure is as real as the snow we ski on.
For an alpine racer, skiing is a sport that involves as much discipline as exuberance. As much training off snow as on snow. A sport that demands focus and dedication, just as much a natural physical talent.
For a working pro at a ski area, a ski patroller or an instructor, skiing comes perilously close to a routine. It’s what you do to get to the office. It’s what you do at the office. Of course, even for the most jaded pro, there are moments of extreme beauty, memorable runs on memorable powder mornings. But mostly for these pros, skiing is what you do to earn a living, to get the job done.
This year I have been working hard on a new ski book, tentatively titled Soft Skiing Down Hard Slopes, the Secrets of Effortless, Low-impact Skiing for Older Skiers. And I realize that I have been re-imagining a very particular sort of skiing. Not just re-magining, but describing, and, in the pages of this new book, trying to teach one particular kind of skiing.
Nowe spojrzenie na narciarstwo - jeden sport, czy też wiele?
Esej o różnych podejściach do narciarstwa.
Ci z was, którzy od jakiegoś czasu czytają moje kolumny, eseje i stronę internetową, mogą pewnie odgadnąć, jaka będzie odpowiedź na pytanie zadane powyżej: Czy narciarstwo to jeden sport, czy też wiele? Narciarstwo jest... Wybierzcie sami. Wielowymiarowym, nieskończenie bogatym i różnorodnym przeżyciem o wielu twarzach. Narciarstwo, o którym ja marzę podczas tych długich letnich miesięcy, nie jest zapewne narciarstwem, które ty sobie wyobrażasz. Tak, bez wątpienia, narciarstwo to wiele sportów, każdy z nich jest inny i każdy satysfakcjonujący.
To ciekawe, ale czy tak bardzo ważne? Być może. Ponieważ to, co sobie wyobrażamy myśląc o narciarstwie jest prawdopodobnie bardzo bliskie temu, co czujemy, kiedy rzeczywiście docieramy do tras zjazdowych, kupujemy karnet narciarski i ponownie stajemy na szczycie białego narciarskiego świata.
Narciarstwo dla podekscytowanego atletycznego nastolatka jest przede wszystkim rywalizacją, testowaniem swoich możliwości i pokonywaniem własnych ograniczeń. To sport, w którym presja ze strony kolegów jest tak namacalna jak śnieg, po którym suną narty.
Dla zawodnika konkurencji alpejskich narciarstwo oznacza tyle samo dyscypliny, co wolności. To treningi na stoku, jak i przygotowanie na sucho. Dla nich to sport, który wymaga skupienia i zaangażowania w takiej samej mierze, jak i wrodzonego sportowego talentu.
Dla zawodowego narciarza, goprowca lub instruktora, narciarstwo niebezpiecznie upodabnia się do rutyny. To metoda na dotarcie do swojego biura i praca, którą tam się wykonuje. Oczywiście, nawet dla najbardziej zaprawionego zawodowego narciarza istnieją piękne momenty uniesienia, niezapomniane zjazdy w niepowtarzalnym porannym puchu. Ale dla tych profesjonalistów, narciarstwo to zarobienie na życie, wykonywanie swoich zadań.
W tym roku ciężko pracuję nad nową książką o narciarstwie, noszącą prowizoryczny tytuł „Miękka jazda na twardych stokach, sekrety mało obciążającego narciarstwa bez wysiłku dla starszych narciarzy”. I zdałem sobie sprawę, że kreuję bardzo specyficzny rodzaj narciarstwa. I nie tylko kreuję. Na stronach mojej książki, opisuję i próbuję uczyć tego specyficznego rodzaju narciarstwa.

After my stay in the United States where I graduated from high school, I began university studies in the field of international relations at the University of Lodz, Poland. After a while I also started to study at the Centre for Translation Studies at the same university. I obtained a diploma of a translator from English, Spanish and Dutch. When I finished my education in Poland, I decided to undertake doctorate studies in Spain which I still continue. My investigative work is centred on the role of a social interpreter in communicative situations.
My professional experience includes written translations as well as dialogue interpreting. Some recent large translations that I was commissioned for were related to development assistance, humanitarian aid and international organisations. These topics appear constantly in my work, and therefore form my specialization area. This realm of my translation activities is justified by my Master’s studies that gave me a broad knowledge of international issues. Furthermore, my educational background also offers me knowledge of organisational behaviour. That is why I also specialise in business and corporate translations (informational brochures, training manuals, articles, speeches, reports…). Moreover, I have also experience in translating journalistic texts and tourist materials. In addition, my experience in sports allows me to translate texts about skiing, athletics and horse riding.
