I am also a professional linguist with a BA in English from the Moscow Pedagogical University (the former Moscow State Pedagogical Institute)(1979), followed by a two-year postgraduate course of translation at the Moscow Linguistic University (the former Moscow State Institute for Foreign Languages) with the emphasis on written translation from Russian into English and style editing in English (1983).
Since then, I have worked for a major news agency back in Russia, several companies in Israel and a law firm in New York, not to mention a number of Russian-language periodicals both in Israel and in the United States. Four years ago I also started to work for the UN Headquarters in New York as a contract translator for its Russian Verbatim Service. I have a good command of the English language, particularly in writing, and an excellent command of well-educated Russian speech, including strong writing skills and the ability to produce what they call today “well-reading content”.
My principal specializations include politics, economics, international affairs and developments, UN activities, social sciences and education, as well as humanities in general - and this is where I feel, and am, most confident, comfortable and at my very best. Also, I have extensive working knowledge of the US Immigration law and procedure, coming from my eight-year experience with a New York immigration law firm, and do a lot of immigration-related translating and escort interpreting. | This user has earned KudoZ points by helping other translators with PRO-level terms.
