Educated in France and Japan, I studied Japanese, Chinese and Tibetan at the Sorbonne University in Paris from 1975 to 1980. I have lived in Japan since 1980, where I studied at Keio University for 5 years. I was doing my masters in Japanese Ethnology and started my PhD but never finished it, when I realized that I did not wish to become a university professor. I started working as a translator in 1982 and this has become my profession.
Simultaneously, I have also become and artist and have been active in that field too. I have moved to Tochigi prefecture in 2006 from Tokyo, in order to have a bigger studio.
Since I do mainly translations, I can work from home using my computer and the internet.
I used to do a lot of technical translations in the 80s when Japan was on the rise, but after the first Gulf War (in 1991) and the burst of the Japanese economic bubble, technical translations decreased and I have had more advertising work, but still worked for big engineering projects mostly with North Africa (Algeria, Morocco) : oil refineries, motorway constructions etc. I also had a lot of business letters and business and patent contracts in the 90s.
I also do translations for museum catalogues and magazines articles. I have also translated two novels and one book of Japanese ethnology.
I sometimes go to Tokyo for some interpreting jobs if necessary.
My husband and children have moved to Australia in 2006 and I go and stay with them from the end of December to the end of March.
