Historians have been studying charters from the Middle Ages for centuries. They are a source of which all possibilities have now been fully explored. Serious research into ego-documents, and based on ego-documents, is much more recent. For this reason, it is worth exploring which new approaches are possible. Naturally, this means building on previous insights.
