I am American, lived most of my adult life in England and have been a resident in Germany since 1994. Culturally I am very mixed up, basically I am Anglo-American with a big dash of the German culture. That means for example that I understand humor from USA, GB & D. Although I switched my legal residence to Germany in 94 I spent a reasonable amount of time there before.
Translation is something I never expected to be doing, my start in this business was more or less accidental and till now it has not been my main profession. I have been translating schooling manuals for the sales program of a German chemical company. There are a lot of complicated industry specific terms and various briefings by chemist and section directors which have very different styles of writing. This has given me excellent working experience.
Until now I have only done German to English which I am comfortable with, I could also do English to English, GB --> US --> GB. My personal preference regarding spoken language is British English and High German, I have been told that I speak English with a slight German accent and German with a slight English accent!
Because of the nature of the material I have been working with, I have been charging €1.30 per line, a line consists of about 70 characters. An example of work I have done is available or it is also possible for me to do a trial piece.
