Die Natur setzt ihre Ziele mit einem Minimum an Energie um und speist Abfälle direkt in den natürlichen Kreislauf zurück. Diese Mechanismen zu erkennen und den Ingenieuren daraus resultierend neue Lösungsansätze zu liefern, ist eine große Chance.

Wspólne zależności między biologią a techniką określa się w bionice terminem „Nauka od przyrody”. Przyroda znalazła rozwiązanie wielu problemów, które dla naukowców i inżynierów stanowią do dziś duże wyzwanie. We wszystkich możliwych dziedzinach, takich jak łączenie materiałów, systemy informacyjno-komunikacyjne, czujniki, możemy odnaleźć ślady rozwiązań zaczerpniętych z przyrody. Szczególnie obecnie, kiedy jesteśmy świadkami ciągłego wzrostu cen materiałów spowodowanych coraz wyższymi cenami surowców i energii, trafny jest zwrot w kierunku natury w poszukiwaniu rozwiązań. Przyroda realizuje swoje cele przy minimalnym zużyciu energii, a odpady zwraca ponownie do naturalnego obiegu. Poznanie tych mechanizmów i wynikających z nich nowych rozwiązań stanowi dużą szansę dla rozwoju techniki.
