A. What is Diabetes?
Everyone’s blood has some sugar in it because you body needs sugar for energy. When you eat, your body breaks food down into sugar and sends it into your bloodstream. Then, your pancreas makes a hormone called insulin. The job of insulin is to help get the sugar from the blood into the cells to be used for energy needed for daily life.
People with type 2 diabetes do not make enough insulin or the insulin they make does not work well. Too much sugar in your blood can mean that you have diabetes.

La sangre de todas las personas contiene un poco de azúcar porque el cuerpo la necesita como fuente de energía. Cuando uno come, el cuerpo transforma los alimentos en azúcar, que es enviada al torrente circulatorio. Luego, el páncreas produce una hormona llamada insulina. La función de la insulina es obtener el azúcar de la sangre y depositarla en las células para que se use como fuente de energía para la vida diaria.
Las personas con diabetes tipo 2 no producen suficiente insulina o la insulina que producen no funciona correctamente. Si usted tiene un alto contenido de azúcar en la sangre, puede tener diabetes.
