Abstract: 68 elderly depression patients were randomized to the treatment group and the control group, with 34 in each group. Both groups were treated with the same tricyclic antidepressant. Patients from the treatment group underwent active music therapy, i.e., they were organized and instructed to play selected music compositions. During the 8-week treatment, depression symptoms began to improve at the end of the first week of treatment in the treatment group and after 3-4 weeks of treatment in the control group. Moreover, the overall therapeutic effect was better in the treatment group than the control group.

A study report described a 54-year-old male patient in the clinical trial (D3560L00001) who received Drug X (10 mg/day starting on 18 October 2002 and 20 mg/day on 29 January 2003). Concomitant diseases consisted of hypertensive heart disease, arterial hypertension, hypothyroidism, hyperuricaemia, and obesity. Concomitant medication included metoprolol, ramipril, levothyroxine, and allopurinol. Twenty-six weeks after starting rosuvastatin, on April 17, 2003, an increase of creatine kinase >500 was noticed (normal: <174); the patient was asymptomatic. He also complained about cardiac discomfort and he was hospitalised for analysis of the unspecified heart problem and increased creatine kinase. An ECG showed no abnormality. Stress-ECG was stopped at 100 watt without signs of ischemia while systolic blood pressure was 280 mm Hg. Echocardiography showed no pathologic findings. A long term ECG showed sinus rhythm and single supraventricular extrasystoles and no other pathologic findings. Hemogram on 23 April 2003 revealed an increased CK value of 577, increased AST, cholesterol, HDL, uric acid and triglycerides. The course of hospitalization was uneventful. Drug X was discontinued. By 5 May 2003 the patient recovered completely. Creatine kinase was 261 on 6 May 2003. The reporter considered the increase of creatine kinase to be probably caused by the study drug but the reporter also considered physical activity as a cause of the observed CK increase, as the patient was currently building a new home. The investigator commented that the patient has an anxious personality, which may be an explanation of his non-specific heart problems. | Translation - Chinese
