Een enorme koperen bal, met schreefloze hoofdletters H, I, E, R dwars door de bol uitgespaard, lijkt bezoekers van Museum De Paviljoens bevestigend toe te knikken: hier ben je, hier moet je zijn, hier bij de entree van Museum De Paviljoens, midden in de stad. Als een boei ligt de sculptuur HIER van de kunstenaar Marc Ruygrok in het gras in het stedelijke polderlandschap van Almere. Museumbezoekers wordt de weg gewezen naar de ingang van het gebouwencomplex.
HIER. Het lijkt een nuchtere vaststelling, een plaatsaanduiding. Tegelijk ondermijnt het beeld die plaatsaanduiding en wordt de betekenis van het woord op losse schroeven gezet. Niet alleen suggereert de vorm dat het beeld makkelijk alle kanten op zou kunnen rollen, ook kan het publiek de bol zelf om zijn as laten draaien. Kijkend door de uitgespaarde letters ziet het ‘hier’ er steeds anders uit. HIER is dus een minder specifieke plaatsaanduiding dan je in eerste instantie denkt. ‘Hier’ is inwisselbaar, ‘hier’ is steeds een ander ‘hier’. | Translation - English
An enormous copper ball, with the sans serif capitals H, I, E, R (constituting the Dutch word for HERE) cut away across the ball, seems to give visitors to Museum De Paviljoens a nod of confirmation: here you are, here you have to be, here at the entrance of Museum De Paviljoens, in the heart of the city. As a buoy the sculpture HIER by artist Marc Ruygrok is sitting in the grass in the urban polder landscape of Almere. Visitors to the museum are shown the way to the entrance of the building complex.
HIER. It seems like a simple conclusion, an indication of place. At the same time the image undermines that indication of place and the meaning of the word becomes unsettled. Not only does the shape suggest that the sculpture could easily roll in every direction, members of the public can also single-handedly let the ball turn on its axis. Seen through the cut-away letters, the “here” looks different all the time. Thus, HIER is a less specific indication of place than you might think at first. “Here” is exchangeable, “here” continuously is a different “here”. | English to Dutch: Limitation of Liability
