Academics:
My education began at Kaunas "Saulės" secondary school. After finishing high school (1992) and short term employment as publishing house director's assistant (1994) I went to Lithuania Christian College to study English language. Two years of study (1994 - 1995) (1996 - 1997) gave me a certificate and huge experience of english - speaking countries' culture. I was very positively influenced by progressive environment and principles I have learned I'm still applying to daily business operations. I later resumed my formal education by graduating from Kaunas College (2006) with BA degree in printing and publishing specialty. In last year at the same college I also entered into Vytautas Magnus university IT bachelor's degree program (2005) . So at one moment in my life I had been studying two degrees. I successfully managed sometimes to write different exams at different schools in one day. But after getting one BA degree (2006) I was done with formal education and decided temporarily to lay aside theories and get more experience (2006 - 2009). Afterwards since September 2009 I begin to study Law Master's degree at Vytautas Magnus University.
Work experience:
I have started my translator's career by translating several novels from English language into Lithuanian (1996 - 2000). I closely cooperated with very good editors and had an opportunity to polish my style.
After laying foundation for translator's career in literature field (1996 -2000) and acquiring practical astuteness in this profession, I have afterwards gained vast experience in various technical translation fields (2000 - 2002) (2006 - 2009).
Specialization:
Although there are many general fields of interest, I want to distinguish some of them:
My profession rests on my languages talents and developed languages skills, and also on my obsession with procession of information. Besides constant work in English - Lithuanian languages pair, I can also work in Russian - Lithuanian pair. Moreover, I just have completed (May 2009) French language course at Vytautas Magnus University, and because I constantly try to improve, this course at workdays' mornings was supplementary to my practical translator's work.
My chief interests of language application fields are economics (finance, business), law (contracts, jurisprudence) and technics (including IT). These are my personal interests too.
Economics is one of my favourites. I have laid good foundations in this field and I do grasp problems which hinders from reaching economical targets. So working with this kind of text gives me also a pleasure.
Law (legal, contracts etc.) is another field of my interest. Work in legislature someday would be very rewarding.
I want specially address issue of technical field. My bachelor's degree work was on electrophotography (copiers, printers) and I prepared methodical material for teaching students on copiers' engineering part. I understand the work of engineer, but as I had developed my linguistics skills, at some time in my career I had to choose, so it became the road not taken with knowledge benefits for my translator's career.
Tools:
I work with Trados 2007, have reliable internet services provider, for various reasons I have developed home office 4 computers' network so I have as little as possible technical problems.
Project history:
technical (documentation, manuals etc.), financial (reports, banking), legal (agreements, certificates etc.), IT (software localization etc.) and many other knowledge fields (except, perhaps, I'm reluctant to work on medical text, which requires extensive knowledge).
If you feel we can make up a collaboration team, please contact me and we can discuss details.
Best regards,
Rytis Andriuškevičius
