The present study was carried out in 13 centres in Europe. Adult patients aged 18–65 yrs with moderate-to-severe persistent asthma and with a forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) 50–80% of predicted normal values were eligible to take part in the study. All patients were previously treated with ICS at a daily dose ≤1,000 µg of BDP-equivalent and had asthma symptoms not adequately controlled. The lack of adequate control can be defined as: presence of daily asthma symptoms more than once a week, night-time asthma symptoms more than twice a month and daily use of short-acting β2-agonists. Thus, as these patients were not controlled by moderate-to-high doses of ICS according to international guidelines [1], they were classified as moderate persistent asthmatics. Unzulängliche Symptomkontrolle kann definiert werden als: öfter als einmal pro Woche Asthma-Symptome am Tag, öfter als zweimal im Monat nächtliche Asthmasymptome, und täglicher Bedarf eines kurz wirksamen ß2-Mimetikums. Nach diesen Kriterien war die Asthmaerkrankung der Patienten unter mittleren bis hohen ICS-Dosen entsprechend internationalen Richtlinien [1] nicht (ausreichend) kontrolliert und wurde daher als mittelschwer-persistierendes Asthma bronchiale klassifiziert. 4.2 Posology and method of administration
Adults and children:
Amphotericin should be administered by intravenous infusion over a period of 2-4 hours. Reduction of the infusion rate may reduce the incidence of side-effects. In rare instances infusion times of up to 6 hours may be necessary. Initial daily dose should be 0.25mg/kgof body weight gradually increasing to a level of 1.0mg/kg of body weight depending on individual response and tolerance. Within the range of 0.25-1.0mg/kg the daily dose should be maintained at the highest level which is not accompanied by unacceptable toxicity. | Translation - German

Amphotericin ist als intravenöse Infusion über 2–4 Stunden zu verabreichen. Durch langsamere Infusionsgeschwindigkeit kann die Häufigkeit von Nebenwirkungen verringert werden. In seltenen Fällen kann eine Infusionsdauer von bis zu 6 Stunden erforderlich werden. Die anfängliche Tagesdosis beträgt 0,25 mg/kg Körpergewicht; diese Dosis sollte in Abhängigkeit vom individuellen Ansprechen auf die Therapie bzw. der individuellen Verträglichkeit schrittweise auf bis zu 1,0 mg/kg Körpergewicht gesteigert werden. Innerhalb des Bereiches von 0,25–1,0 mg/kg Körpergewicht sollte die höchstmögliche Erhaltungsdosis gewählt werden, bei der noch keine unakzeptablen Nebenwirkungen auftreten.
