About me

Well, better say "about us": we are a team, two of us both in life and work.

Cinthia, GCSE in Foreign Languages (English and French and studied Arabic, this last long since forgotten); now studying Spanish.
One year living in the U.S. and one year in Spain, plus several
trips around Europe.
(She's an accurate and careful researcher, and a very hard worker. In our actual job she looks after editing, reviewing and proofing, from English into Italian.)

Arrigo, GCSE in Classical Matters. I studied French as a kid, then English plus, of course, Latin and Greek. I too now studying Spanish.
Several long stays abroad in USA, UK and other European Countries. Moreover, one year on an English course provided by the Company then hiring me.
(I do the most part of the translation job and join her in the proofing).

Work experiences:

currently (2009) freelance translators EN->IT->EN (don't be misled, it's now since 30 years that we earn our living thanks to our knowledge of English).

1996->2005 - both managing our commercial firm. We were sales agents of Texas Refinery Corp. (special building products) and Cover-It Inc., USA and of Rubb Buildings Ltd. UK; these last two manufacturers of fabric-on-steel-frame removable structures. You can guess the language we had to use most...

1979->1995 - both working with the late Digital Equipment Corporation (to become world #2 after IBM), where we met in 1984.
She started in Sales, working on the Company's first automated technical configuration and quotation systems; in 1988 she joined the Order Fulfillment Group, acting as an interface between Customers and Plants. Since 1993 she was in charge of training new admin personnel.

I for myself started in Sales Administration (then Order Fulfillment Group); in this job I became a developer on the Admin's systems and in 1988 I joined the European Software Development Group as Italian representative.
In this role I cooperated to the development of the most part of the new programs and I started "localizing" ante-litteram the programs, that were obviously developed in English.
I also "localized" all the system and training manuals and delivered training courses to my colleagues.
In 1993 I joined the Information Services and became System Manager for the Admin.

1978->1979 - she working in the Marketing Dept. of Gulf Corp. Italy.

1977->1979 - I working as Chief Buyer with a mechanical company in Turin, italian manufacture of conveyors under licence by PRAB USA, and also assembler of machining lathes by CIT-Alcatel France. In these years I had to use also much French.

1976->1979 - she studying. I working as Assistant to the Purchasing Manager of Farfisa Spa, owned by Lear Siegler Inc. USA

1975->1976 - working with Renault Italia in a tech/commercial role.

Our translations:
we translate many articles a week for on-line magazines, from USA or UK sources, ranging from politics to history, financial, military and defense.
Some of our first translations were about "terminal ballistics" and even something worse. Then we started with the translation of "War is a racket", posted here.

This year, 2009, brought us, among other jobs, editing 250,000 s.w. of tech automotive manuals, translating and proofing 134,000 s.w. of electronics website and 35,000 s.w. of relevant product manual, several hours of SW localization, several hours cooperating to the subtitling of a movie from Neapolitan to English (sic!), some SP-IT / SP-EN finance related translations (sample here), etc.

Our tools: complete and redundant HW, plenty of SW. We definitely improved our skills with SDLX and Trados and, more recently, we installed IBM Translation Manager. The technical Marolli joined the family a couple of months ago.

We can afford to be very fast, yet maintaining a high quality level and, last but not least, we are not scared by working overtime when schedules must be met.
