| Translation - English Alighting from a train from Vienna in the small town of Matulji, a group of elegantly dressed ladies and gentlemen continued their trip to Opatija in a horse-drawn carriage. In mid-June this year, Opatija saw a re-enactment of this journey from a bygone era, complete with ladies in crinolines and parasols shading their pale faces, and gentlemen in tails and top hats. Sweet old-fashioned melodies played softly from all terraces in town. Waiters in vintage uniforms served traditional coffee and cakes. A stroll by the sea, stopping for photographs surrounded by curious tourists, a ride in an open horse-drawn carriage, a walk down memory lane evoked by old postcards and stamps, delivered by formally dressed postmen... A gallery of withered postcards revived for a moment the olden days, when Opatija was a beloved holiday destination for the Austro-Hungarian aristocracy. Restaurants served food copied from old Austro-Hungarian menus, some of which will remain part of Opatija's tourist offer. | | English to Croatian: Sample EN-HR | Source text - English The summer she was fifteen, Melanie discovered she was made of flesh and blood. O, my America, my new found land. She embarked on a tranced voyage, eploring the whole of herself, clambering her own mountain ranges, penetrating the moist richness of her secret valleys, a physiological Cortez, da Gama or Mungo Park. For hours she stared at herself, naked, in the mirror of her wardrobe; she would follow with her finger the elegant structure of her rib-cage, where the heart fluttered under the flesh like a bird under a blanket, and she would draw down the long line from breast-bone to navel (which was a mysterious cavern or grotto), and she would rasp her palms against her bud-wing shoulderblades. And then she would writhe about, clasping herself, laughing, sometimes doing cartwheels and handstands out of sheer exhilaration at the supple surprise of herself now she was no longer a little girl. | More Less | | Bachelor's degree - University of Zagreb, Croatia | | Years of translation experience: 16.
