Introduction:

Briefly, allow me to introduce myself. I am a freelancer, a native Somali; I am an interpreter and translator.

I have worked for numerous agencies throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. I enjoyed working

with each of them. At any moment you choose my services and would like a reference, I will gladly supply one to

you. Please just ask. Let me, just for a moment tell you the subjects of the translation and interpretation I have

experience with. I have fulfilled assignments in court, at Federal, State and County levels, Social Service,

business communications, education and Medical/hospital settings. I have interpreted over the phone as well. I

have been working in these areas since, February 2000. I consider myself to be a Professional Linguist. I have

contracted with various agencies, I translated documents from English to Somali, and Somali to English. In

addition, I am equally fluent in af-Maay Maay (Mai Mai) (A dialect spoken by the newly arrived Somali Bantu).

I produce and host a Somali-language radio program (Somali Community Radio “Qaran Radio” WATB 1420 AM) aimed for Somali speakers in metropolitan Atlanta area, I have been hosting the show since 2000 on (WATB 1420 AM). The show is about news and information broadcasting in Somali.
Certificates:

o I am a certified proficiency Somali language tester for the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and the Defense Language Institute (DLI). I have tested and rated for than thirty candidates.

o Qualified Interpreter/Translator by Department of Human Resource (Georgia, U.S.A)

o State of Georgia court certified interpreter

Translate documents to be sent to the parents, documents translated include “Student Code of Conduct” for the county schools, a book containing 50,000 words. Interpret: parent – teacher conferences throughout the county.
o Provide appropriate language instruction to students under the supervision of the certified classroom teacher.
o Interpret between parent & school officials, Eng<>Somali, and translate Eng. Documents into Somali for parents and students.
o Assist teachers in maintaining and reporting students assigned to the ESL classes.
o Assist teachers in communicating with parents whom English are not their mother tongue.
o Provide instructions, counseling, appropriate learning material and experiences for the participants.
o Provide continuous evaluation of students’ progress and achievement.
