Gar nicht so einfach, Mama den ganzen Tag sinnvoll zu beschäftigen. Da ist schon tatkräftiger Einsatz gefragt.
„Oh nein!", schreit die Mama. Ich sitze vor dem Blumentopf und esse Erde. „Da", sage ich freundlich und halte Mama ein ganz besonders appetitanregendes Bröckchen hin.
Mama stürzt auf mich zu und entreißt mir gierig das Erdklümpchen. Obendrein beginnt sie auch noch, mit einem Finger in meinem Mund herumzustochern.
Das geht etwas zu weit, finde ich. „Au!", ruft die Mama und zieht hastig die Hand zurück. Ich schlucke angestrengt. „Das kann man doch nicht essen!", schimpft die Mama und versucht krampfhaft, durch Druck auf meine Wangen meinen Mund zu öffnen.
Ich strahle sie an.
„Du hast es runtergeschluckt!", ruft Mama entsetzt und schüttelt dann resigniert den Kopf. „Das ist Erde", sagt sie und sieht mich streng an. „Das ist kein Frühstück."
„Frühstück!", brabbele ich begeistert und mache mich auf den Weg ins Wohnzimmer. Doch Mama packt mich und trägt mich stattdessen ins Bad. „Nein", sagt sie dabei etwas gereizt, „jetzt waschen wir erst einmal die Erde aus deinem Gesicht." Wusste ich's doch, dass auch dieser Spaß seine Kehrseite haben muss.
Nach einem kleinen Gezeter setzt Mama mich auf den Boden. Beleidigt sehe ich ihr nach, als sie das Bad verlässt. Dann wende ich mich dem Mülleimer zu. Der ist normalerweise durch die hochgeklappten Griffe an den Seiten fest verschlossen. Heute jedoch hat Mama es offenbar etwas eilig gehabt.
Ich öffne den Deckel.

Chaos crawls
It's not so easy to find useful employment for mommie all day. Energetic involvement is what's called for here.
"Oh no!" cries mommie. I am sitting in front of the potted plant, eating dirt.
"Da", I say in a friendly voice and offer mommie an especially appealing morsel of dirt. Mommie leaps at me and greedily snatches the morsel from my hand. As if that weren't enough, she starts poking around in my mouth.
That's taking it a bit to far, in my opinion.
"Ouch", cries mommie and hurriedly pulls back her hand. I'm swallowing hard.
"You can't eat that!" mommie scolds and frantically tries to pry open my mouth by pressing on my cheeks.
I beam at her.
"You swallowed it!" mommie cries, horrified, then resignedly shakes her head. "That's dirt", she says and gives me a severe look. "That's no breakfast."
"Breakfast", I cry gleefully and start to take off towards the living room. But mommie grabs me and carries me into the bathroom instead.
"No", she says, slightly irritated, "first we've got to clean you up." I did have the feeling that there had to be a downside to having that much fun.
After a minor tantrum, mommie sets me down on the floor. Sullenly I watch her leave the bathroom.
Then I turn to the waste basket. Normally, it's tightly locked by the flipped-up side handles. But today, mommie was obviously in a hurry.

Three teenage Girls are having their photographs taken. They huddle together, whispering, giggling and screeching conspiratorially. They skip about to the B'Witched song C'est La Vie. Every now and again they slump awkwardly, hunch over and curl their unusually long, thin limbs into their bodies. When the photographer asks them to do something, one turns around and pulls a face (she thinks) out of view. One of the girls is dark haired. The other two are blonde. Their clothes are those of typical teenagers, with a hint of fashion awareness: combat trousers and hooded sweatshirts from Top Shop, Reebook trainers from Allsports, sweet little candy-coloured flowery socks.
The thing is, despite the apparently uncontrived nature of the situation, we're actually in a professional photographic studio in West London, all white light and wooden floors. The girl with the long blonde hair and unusually pretty dark features is Sara Daykin, 15, the new face of Miu Miu. The etheral looking blonde, the quitest of the trio who looks a bit like a young Emma Balfour, is Susan Crozier, 14, already a veteran of Italian Vogue shoots with Steven Meisel. And the cheeky dark-haired girl with the huge blue eyes, freckles and braces is Ciara Nugent, 13, the face of Burberrys as photographed by Mario Testino and another Italian Vogue veteran. On a settee at the other end of the studio, three of the girls' parents are deep in conversation over cups of tea and coffee. Their model agency booker, Sarah Leon, talks hurriedly on her mobile in between animated exchanges with the mums and dad. | Translation - German
Drei junge Mädchen sind dabei, fotografiert zu werden. Sie drängen sich flüsternd, kichernd und verschwörerisch kreischend zusammen. Sie hopsen zu dem B'Witched-Hit C'est La Vie herum. Hin und wieder sacken sie auf merkwürdige Weise in sich susammen, vornübergebeugt und ihre ungewöhnlich langen, dünnen Glieder in ihre Körper eingerollt. Als die Fotografin sie darum bittet, etwas bestimmtes zu tun, dreht eine von ihnen sich herum und schneidet eine für sie nicht sichtbare Grimasse (so denkt sie zumindest). Eines der Mädchen ist dunkelhaarig. Die beiden anderen sind blond. Ihre Kleidung ist typisch für Halbwüchsige, mit einer Andeutung von Mode-Bewusstsein: Armee-Hosen und Kapuzen-Sweatshirts von Top-Shop, Reebook Turnschuhe von Allsports, niedliche bonbonfarbene, geblümte Söckchen.
Die Sache ist, dass wir uns trotz des scheinbar ungestellten Charakters der Situation in einem perfekt ausgeleuchtetem, holz-parkettierten Profi- Photostudio in West London befinden.
Das Mädchen mit dem langen, blonden Haar und auffallend hübschen, dunklen Wimpern heisst Sara Daykin, ist 15 Jahre alt und das neue Gesicht von Miu Miu. Die ätherisch ausehende Blondine, die von allen dreien am stillsten ist und aussieht wie eine junge Emma Balfour, heisst Susan Crozier, ist 14 und hat schon reiche Erfahrung mit Fotoaufnahmen von Steven Meisel für die italienische Vogue gesammelt.
Und das spitzbübische, dunkelhaarige Mädchen mit den riesigen blauen Augen, Sommersprossen und Zahnspange heisst Ciara Nugent, ist 13 und das Gesicht Burberrys, fotografiert von Mario Testino. Auch sie ist altgedient vom Arbeiten mit der italienischen Vogue.
Auf einem Sofa am anderen Ende des Studios sitzen drei der Elternteile der Mädchen mit Tee oder Kaffee, tief in's Gespraech versunken. Ihre Agentin, Sarah Leon, spricht emsig am Handy, inmitten aufgeregter Diskurse mit den Müttern und dem Vater. |

My name is Kordula Coleman and I am a German native who came to live here in Minneapolis in 2000. I have been married to an American for 8 years.
We have two little bi-lingual girls; the older one attends the
Twin Cities German Immersion School.
I was born in Trier, Germany in 1968 and went to school there until 1987. After graduating from high school, I worked as a ceramic apprentice for two and a half years until obtaining my journeyman's certificate.
I then studied graphic design in Germany for 5 years, got my diploma in 1995 and worked first as a layouter and then as an art director in various German agencies for 5 years.
After coming to the US in 2000 I worked as a freelance art director in an advertising agency in St Paul, MN until 2002. I have done smaller freelance graphic design jobs since, this is my website:
