Στην προσπάθεια ο άνθρωπος να ρυθμίσει και να οργανώσει τη ζωή του χρησιμοποίησε την έννοια του χρόνου και εφηύρε τα πρώτα μέσα μέτρησης και προσδιορισμού του, παρατηρώντας τις μεταβολές των φαινομένων γύρω του. Ο υπολογισμός του χρόνου δεν γίνεται μόνο από το θεωρητικό ενδιαφέρον και για επιστημονικούς σκοπούς. Είναι απαραίτητος για τον έλεγχο της καθημερινής δραστηριότητάς του και για να υπάρχει κοινωνική ζωή. Η μελέτη της περιοδικότητας των ουράνιων αλλά και των γήινων φαινομένων, όπως οι εποχές, μέσω λεπτομερών και μακροχρόνιων καταγραφών, γέννησε την έννοια του Ημερολογίου.
Κάποιοι άνθρωποι για πρώτη φορά έψαξαν γύρω τους να βρουν έναν τρόπο να μετρούν το χρόνο. Φαντάστηκαν ένα υλικό μέσο που θα έρεε. Οι βασικές τους προτιμήσεις ήταν συνηθισμένα υλικά, όπως το νερό και η άμμος. Η κλεψύδρα, το αμμόμετρο, το ηλιακό ρολόι, ο αστρολάβος ήταν μερικά από τα όργανα που κατασκευάσθηκαν γι΄ αυτό το σκοπό.
Σήμερα το μέσο που ρέει στους χρονομέτρες είναι τα ηλεκτρόνια και στη θέση του κουβά (που μαζεύει το νερό), είναι ο πυκνωτής (που μαζεύει τα ηλεκτρόνια-φορτίο).
Περιεχόμενο (Content):
Ο ακόλουθος μηχανισμός να γίνει animation για αφόρμιση. Το “Water Supply” θα παρέχει συνεχώς νερό, από το οποίο μέρος του φεύγει από το “Over Flow” και μέρος του μπαίνει στο κουβά. Το “Float” επιπλέει στο υγρό συνέχεια .Καθώς ο κουβάς γεμίζει, σπρώχνει τη ράβδο με τον οδωντοτό κανόνα προς τα πάνω. Αυτός είναι ενωμένος με οδοντοτροχό ο οποίος γυρίζει δεξιόστροφα. Μαζί με τον οδοντοτροχό γυρίζει & ο δείκτης. Όταν ο κουβάς γεμίσει το ρολόι σταματά & το animation μπορεί να επανεκκινήσει. Δίπλα θα υπάρχει μικρή φωτογραφία αμμόμετρου.

Ο πυκνωτής είναι ένα εξάρτημα που αποθηκεύει ενέργεια με τη μορφή ηλεκτρικού πεδίου.
Ο πυκνωτής αποτελείται από μια διάταξη δυο αγώγιμων επιφανειών που διαχωρίζονται από ένα διηλεκτρικό μονωτικό υλικό. Το φορτίο στους δύο αγωγούς δημιουργεί ηλεκτρικό πεδίο. Ο πυκνωτής είναι όπως ένας κουβάς που γεμίζει με νερό. Όταν ο πυκνωτής φορτιστεί (μαζέψει το φορτίο που μπορεί) τότε σταματά η ροή του ρεύματος.
Η χωρητικότητα, C, μετρά την ικανότητα του να αποθηκεύει φορτίο. Η μονάδα χωρητικότητας είναι το Farad (F). Αυτή είναι πολύ μεγάλη μονάδα και συνήθως χρησιμοποιούμε την υποδιαίρεση microfarad (μF).1.000.000μF=1F

1.α Οι σταθεροί πυκνωτές είναι εξαρτήματα που δεν ρυθμίζονται, έχουν προεπιλεγμένη τιμή.
1.β Οι ρυθμιζόμενοι πυκνωτές που ονομάζονται και τρίμερς ή πάντερς, χρησιμοποιούνται σε κυκλώματα τα οποία πρέπει να ρυθμίζονται αρκετά συχνά ή να ευθυγραμμίζονται. Επίσης χρησιμοποιούνται σε κυκλώματα που απαιτούν ακριβείς ρυθμίσεις, αποτελούνται από δύο συστήματα μεταλλικών πλακών από τα οποία το ένα είναι σταθερό και το άλλο, στηριζόμενο σε άξονα, επιτρέπει τη μεταβολή της χωρητικότητας τους. Αυτοί οι πυκνωτές χρησιμοποιούνται σε κυκλώματα συχνού συντονισμού πομπών και δεκτών.
2.α. Έχουν ως διηλεκτρικό μίκα, χρησιμοποιούνται σε κυκλώματα που απαιτούν ακριβείς ρυθμίσεις.
2.β. . Έχουν ως διηλεκτρικό κεραμικό, χρησιμοποιούνται σε κυκλώματα που απαιτούν ακριβείς ρυθμίσεις.

Ο χρονομέτρης (χρονιστής) 555 είναι ένα πολύ εύχρηστο και φθηνό ολοκληρωμένο κύκλωμα. Χρησιμοποιείται σε κυκλώματα χρονισμού όπου δηλαδή στο κύκλωμα χρειάζεται να εισαχθεί ο παράγοντας του χρόνου. Το IC 555 κυκλοφόρησε στην αγορά για πρώτη φορά το 1971 στις Η.Π.Α. από την εταιρεία Signetics. Σήμερα κατασκευάζεται από πολλές κατασκευαστικές εταιρίες ημιαγωγών και διατίθεται σε συσκευασία των 8 ακροδεκτών (ποδαράκια) σε διάταξη DIL

Humans, in their effort to regulate and organize their life, made use of the concept of time and invented the first means for its measurement and calculation, by observing the fluctuations in the natural phenomena around them. Time is not calculated only out of theoretical interest and for scientific purposes. It is essential for regulating people’s day-to-day activities and constitutes a prerequisite for social existence. The study of the periodicity of celestial, but also terrestrial phenomena, such as the seasons, through detailed studies spanning many years, gave rise to the concept of the Calendar.
For the first time, some people looked around them in order to discover a way to measure time. They imagined a material means characterised by its property of flowing. Their primary preferences revolved around common materials, such as water and sand. The hour glass, sand meter, solar clock and astrolabe were among the devices constructed to this end.
Today, the material flowing through time meters is electrons and in the place of the bucket (which collects the water) is the capacitor (which collects the electrons-voltage).

The following mechanism to become an animation, which will provide an introduction and stimulus for further discussion. The ‘Water Supply’ supplies water on a continuous basis, part of which seeps out through the ‘Over Flow’ and part of which flows into the bucket. The ‘Float’ floats in the liquid throughout the entire duration. As the bucket fills up, it pushes the rod with the calibrated scale upwards. This is connected to a tooth wheel, which rotates in a clockwise direction. The indicator also turns together with the tooth wheel. When the bucket has filled up, the clock stops & the animation can restart. Adjacent to it there will be a small photograph of a sand meter.

The capacitor is a device which stores energy in the form of an electric field.
The capacitor is comprised of a configuration consisting of two conducting surfaces, which are separated by a dielectric insulating material. The voltage in the two conductors creates an electric field. The capacitor is like a bucket filling up with water. When the capacitor has been charged (accumulated the voltage it can store), the electrical current stops.
Capacity, C, measures its capacity to store an electric charge. The unit for measuring capacity is the Farad (F). This is a very large unit; we usually use its sub-unit, the microfarad (μF).1,000,000μF=1F

1.a Fixed capacitors are devices which cannot be adjusted, they have a preset value.
1.b Adjustable capacitors, known as trimmers or padding capacitors, are used in circuits which require quite frequent adjustment or alignment. They are also used in circuits requiring precise adjustments. They are comprised of two systems of metallic plaques, of which one is fixed and the other, attached to an axis, allows for an alteration in their capacity. These capacitors are used in the resonant circuits of transmitters and receivers.
2.a. They use mica as dielectric insulating material and are used in circuits requiring precise adjustments.
2.b. They use clay as dielectric insulating material and are used in circuits requiring precise adjustments.
2.c. They are comprised of sheets of tinplate, interleaved with sheets of paper steeped in wax, to provide insulation and protection against humidity. They are used in circuits where a small amount of leakage is allowed.

2.e. They have polarity (contain a positive and negative pin) and their advantage lies in their large capacity, which is due to the very short span between their armature. They are used in rectifying circuits and in acoustic frequency circuits.

The 555 timer (counter) is a very easy to use and economical integrated circuit. It is used in timing circuits, that is, where the time factor needs to be taken into consideration in a circuit. The Signetics company first circulated the IC 555 in the market in 1971 in the U.S.A. Today, it is manufactured by many semi-conductor manufacturing companies and is available in an 8-pin package, arranged in a DIL configuration.
