| Translation - English Testing Antenna Systems
When a network operator determines that the transmitter system is not operating properly and is outputting insufficient power, several different possible causes should be investigated. A few of the most frequent causes are a poorly matched antenna, a defective amplifier, or excessive cable loss. The distance-to-fault measurement and one-port cable loss measurement options can be used to evaluate the status of the RF cable quickly and precisely. The spectrum analyzer uses the DTF measurement to determine the distance to the location of the defect, possibly the result of pinched or loose cables, or cable connections damaged by corrosion. The built-in threshold function ensures that only real cable defects are listed; i.e., those that exceed a defined tolerance. This simplifies the analysis of the measurement considerably. The one-port cable loss measurement is used to determine attenuation on installed cables. For this application, it is sufficient to connect one end of the cable to the measurement port on the spectrum analyzer. The other end is terminated with a short circuit or simply left open.
If the cables are all functioning properly, the next step is to check whether the fault was caused by an antenna mismatch or defective power amplifier. In a further step, the transmit filter might be tested. If it is not functioning properly, it is possible that the base station is transmitting outside of the desired band. For these tasks, the spectrum analyzer model that includes a built-in tracking generator and VSWR test bridge can be employed as a vector network analyzer. This allows the antenna matching as well as the filter and amplifier transmission characteristics to be determined in both the forward and backward direction. The vector measurement is highly accurate as a result of the associated system error correction. The integrated bias tee supplies power over the RF cable to active DUTs, such as an amplifier. This function is especially useful for testing mast-mounted amplifiers on a mobile radio base station.

I then stayed on at MIIS for my Masters in translation (German); however, I was hired by Siemens as a translator before finishing. I worked as a translator for Siemens for 15 years before moving into the technical writing field. I have kept my translation skills current over the years by completing translations within my writing group, and more recently have been working as a freelance translator alongside my job as a technical writer at Siemens.
I have translated/written in the fields of telecommunications, including computer HW/SW, interfaces, networking, security, ISO certification, process, and other business texts for 26 years at Siemens, minus a brief stint at POET Software, where I was the primary writer and translation coordinator for their Content Management and e-Commerce products. I also have extensive project management experience from my years at Siemens and POET.
My freelance experience has included translating and editing texts in the fields of eletronics, general hardware and software, test equipment for wireless and broadcast technologies, and e-Commerce.
I pride myself on always completing my work on time. I also work hard to ensure that my completed translations are absolutely correct, that they flow smoothly and naturally in English, and that they are written with flawless grammar. |
