The Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion is proposing to replace the two existing arrangements for work injury compensation with a single common labour injury insurance.
"The proposal presents a clear simplification in relation to the existing two-track system, which is experienced by many as complicated and unintelligible. We are preparing for a stronger involvement of the working life parties and are undertaking necessary measures to ensure an equal treatment perspective in the regulations," says Labour and Social Inclusion Minister Dag Terje Andersen.
"A special rule for acute injuries incurred by lifting persons gives the proposal a clear equal treatment character," says Dag Terje Andersen.
Today a person who has incurred a work injury must conform to two different regulatory structures and two authorities in one work injury case. The proposal which the Ministry now submits for a hearing includes a change to one regulatory structure, where a newly-created labour injury entity shall decide claims for compensation.

There are not enough civic registration numbers for all who must have them. The Government proposes therefore that a civic registration number can be designated with an adjacent day in the same month in those cases when a civic registration number is lacking for a certain birth date. My family roots are in Norway, Sweden, and Finland. My father's mother emigrated from Eidsvoll Verk in Norway, my father's father was a Swedish American, and my mother's parents emigrated from western Finland. I have a B.A. in Scandinavian Languages and Geography and a J.D. cum laude, both from the University of Minnesota. I taught Norwegian for one year at the University while a student and for several years as an adult education instructor in local schools. I worked for several years as a commercial insurance underwriter and then as a corporate risk manager. I practiced law for five years in employment law, environmental law, and criminal defense.
