I am a freelance translator working from French into my native English. I am specialised in the social sciences and humanities, but I am experienced in international development, tourism, and market research related translation as well. With a penchant for detail, I also excel at editing, proofreading, and copywriting.
I hold a BA in History and Canadian Studies from McGill University, an MA in History from Concordia University, and an MSc in Government from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
English is my mother tongue, although I was raised in a bilingual family and spoke fluent French from a very early age. I spent my first 24 years in Canada, where I studied in both English and French at school and university. I have lived and studied in the UK and hold dual citizenship, as such I can adapt my translations for UK or North American audiences. I have lived in France since 2003 and speak accent-free French on a daily basis. I also speak basic German and Spanish, although I do not work in these languages.
I have been translating and editing since 2004. Prior to that, I was a political analyst and consultant on France for the international affairs journal Jane's Sentinel.
My current clients include university professors, companies, governmental bodies and institutions, NGOs, and translation agencies. Recent projects include company reports, essays and dissertations destined for publication in academia, presentations, and a travel guidebook. I translate roughly 2500 words per day.
I work on a Sony VAIO laptop computer and have a backup IBM laptop computer. I run Windows and am familiar with MS Office. I use Wordfast as my CAT tool and I am at ease with web-based work and research.
I have taken university courses on literary translation. I have a passion for nineteenth century French literature and North American post-modernist fiction. I am a published author in French and English journals.
I am a full member of the Société française des traducteurs. | Keywords: politics, social science, history, sociology, literature, international relations (IR), nationalism, ethnic conflict, displaced persons, refugees, NGO, human rights, humanities, humanitarian, translation, proofreading, editing, academic, development, immigration, thesis, dissertation, abstract, current affairs, research, culture, conflict resolution, Canadian, UK, English, French, Middle East, peace process, Somalia, Rwanda, Kosovo, Cambodia, Bosnia, former Yugoslavia, anglais, français, britannique, Canada, canadien, Proche Orient, processus de paix, Somalie, Cambodge, Kossovo, Bosnie, ex-Yougoslavie, thèse, mémoire, résumé, traduction, révision, sciences politiques, histoire, sciences sociales, sociologie, relations internationales, nationalisme, conflit ethnique, ONG, réfugiés, personnes déplacées, développement, sciences humaines, humanitaire, droits de l'homme, recherche, résolution de conflit, Europe, international
