The electrical/operator building will house the electrical equipment to power the algae pumps, instruments and heating/cooling system, as well as a computer with display to provide trend/historical information including temperature, pH and control information.
The Operator Interface allows the operator to select between automatic or manual control of the production process, i.e. open/close valves, turn pumps on or off, perform manual or automatic harvests, etc. The process can also be operated via the Internet with the appropriate codes ensuring that only authorized persons can access the system.

Currently, there are approximately 170 biodiesel manufactures in the U. S.; none produce biodiesel from algae on an industrial scale. At the present time, about 50 billion gallons of diesel fuel is purchased to power trucks and automobiles each year. Federal legislation requires that at least 10 gallons of biodiesel per 100 gallons be blended with regular fossil-based diesel (a 10% blend) by 2020. Many states will require a higher ratio, including California which has already mandated that a 20% blend be used by 2012. It is anticipated that the federal blending requirement will increase as more biodiesel becomes available – the result of the current presidential election increases the likelihood that we may see even more dramatic increases.

We're used to hearing stories about faster microchips. Why is it different this time?
Katlean:
The big advance is in the part of your computer that usually doesn't get a lot of attention unless you're a video-gamer.
You already know about your "mother chip..."
--but this is your OTHER chip. The graphics processing unit, or GPU.
Because video games are so popular, the GPU has always been important to computer makers. And new GPUs like this one from Nvidia, which is called Tesla, are extremely powerful.
That's pretty big news, but the really important breakthrough is the way these chips can talk to each other and work together. A new language allows these Tesla chips to link up and work at supercomputer speeds-- TRILLIONS of calculations a second.
If you built a computer with four of these chips, it would fit on this desk. But it would be as powerful as supercomputers that used to fill a room as big as this entire studio.
Now, you ask, how would this affect me? Doesn't the world have enough supercomputers? The answer is no. We need more, so that we can find better ways to scan the human body for cancer. Or figure out the most likely spots to find oil and gas deposits deep inside the earth. Or predict hurricanes and tornadoes. Or even design buildings and bridges and clothing.
One researcher says--and this is an exact quote (looking at the quote on a notecard):
The Tesla chip and the CUDA language are most important advance in computers since the invention of the microchip.

KDM: Two reasons: for yourself, and to help others. For yourself, you will use TESLA to run applications that can do things you can't do right now, like examine every photograph in your photo library and find only the ones with your uncle in the picture. That kind of technology is coming.
Secondly, when you are not using your GPU, it can go to work for researchers online. They can use YOUR idle GPU to link up with thousands of other GPUs in other homes and now all of a sudden they have a massive supercomputer that they can use.
For example, one project that's going on right now is protein folding, where scientists are using many TESLA chips to try to figure out one of the great mysteries of medical science, which is how amino acids become proteins in the body.
So the supercomputer you buy tomorrow may help save your life one day!

Escritor, periodista y dramaturgo portugués. En 1998 le fue concedido el Premio Nobel de Literatura. La Academia Sueca destacó su capacidad para "volver comprensible una realidad huidiza, con parábolas sostenidas por la imaginación, la compasión y la ironía".

If she sleeps for only one hour and wakes up tired, which often happens, then try to soothe and resettle her back to sleep. (See the tips on nap training in the earlier age chapters). If all else fails, use one of your emergency backup nap techniques, like putting her in the car or stroller, to get her some more sleep. Remember not to let her sleep past 4:00 or 4:30 p.m. Even if she naps later than usual, don’t delay her bedtime; keep it on the early side. If you’ve been working on this consolidation for a few days and you see that she is a bit “off,” that she is too tired, feel free to let her take a “two nap” day to catch up. I know I keep telling you to be consistent, but in this particular situation, your priority is to see that she’s rested, to keep her from crossing into that exhausted but wired state. After the “two nap” day, get back on the one nap consolidation path.
One last suggestion—if your child is not yet sleeping through the night, work on that before you tackle nap consolidation. When she’s slept through the night consistently for a few weeks, then you can begin altering the nap schedule if you see that she is ready.
