Language and translation

Good translations need both linguistic and cultural competence and experience.

My goal is to bring not only the simple meaning, but also intention and style of the original text to the translation's reader. The result might be compared to a color versus a black and white copy. Both depict the original, but without the color the most important aspects may very well be missing.

I spent years of my life living in both Japan and Britain and am well acquainted with language and culture. Therefore, my translations guarantee not only precision and ease of reading in German but also a thorough grasp of nuances in the source text.

Education and background

I received my MA degree in Japanese studies, biology and philosophy from LMU University of Munich Japan Center. Additionally, I studied Japanese language, culture and environmental policy for one year at Hokkaido Daigaku University in Sapporo, Japan. To strengthen my background in biology, I attended the Ecology, Evolution and Systematics Master Program at LMU University of Munich Biocenter as a guest student.

Work experience

Since 2006 I am working as a freelance translator and language teacher. My work experience includes translating webpages, letters, software and scientific texts for university projects.
