Hi everyone,

I've only learned about Cafetran that also works on a Mac and thought I may give it a try. It's not clear to me how you deactivate the engines that connect to the Google translate and similar services. For confidentiality reasons I don't want to put my clients' documents at risk so until I find out I will not use this tool.

Hi Dominque,

Please wait another week with making a first screencast on CafeTran. It still is getting better and better every day :).

The latest builds offer many new and useful features like:

- auto-docking of user-specific resources
- saving of screen layouts between sessions
- sophisticated target pane editing enhancements like Remove string X or Remove first string X at the left of the cursor (without the need to use Auto-Hotkey or any other macro tool :) ).

CafeTran now can handle third party TMs with tags inside TUs very good. Especially when migrating from another CAT tool to CafeTran this is very useful.

The spring update is released. The latest major feature is MyMemory online translation service implementation in the CT interface. Moreover, the update includes:

- Improved statistics (see menu Project | Statistics)

Hello Maria,

The counts are available in the Project | Statistics menu. You can also analyze the project segments against your working memories. This will be seen in the Project | Statistics menu after pretranslation or translation of project segments.

Imagine a CAT tool that offers a keyboard shortcut and a button to directly add the content of the source text field and the content of the target text field as a term pair to the glossary ...

Perhaps you can split up your TM in several pieces and put them in a Dropbox folder ( [url removed] , there are other alternatives ...). Your collaborator(s) should use the same Dropbox.

I'm not sure whether Igor should change something in the Java code or that it already works in the current version.

CafeTran can work in the TM Server mode to enable other translators to connect to your memories over the Internet. Read the Rendezvous Memory Server chapter in the online Help ( [url removed] ) and follow the instructions there.

I've downloaded the demo version, and it seems to work like a charm. Now, I have a critical question... Is it possible to share the TM with other users at the same time? This is a large translation project and there will be at least two people working on it at the same time, so this feature is essential.

Hi all,

Igor is constantly improving CafeTran, at a pace that is hard to keep up with for us users ;).

Many new features have not been documented in the Help yet, since Igor is focussing on development currently. So if you're in need of a feature, chances are, it already has been implemented. You can ask here or directly at [email removed] .

One nice feature that is quite unique (AFAIK only Swordfish offers it too) is the ability to pre-segment SDL TTX files. No need to fire up Windows first, start WorkBench, pre-translate etc. etc. Just put all TTX files in one folder, start CafeTran, click on Translate TTX or SDLXLIFF files, select the folder containing the TTX files and Bob's your uncle ...

CafeTran can only pre-segment TTX files that are completely unsegmented, however.

For my terminology, I use an access application and it would be really great to be able to work directly with my db from CafeTran. Unfortunately, MS access is not supported (yet??). I wrote to Igor some time ago about it, he will have a look at this when he ll have time.

By default CafeTran uses the H2 External database for terms or segments management. You can set another one (for example free and popular MySQL database), and it can be also installed on the same machine as CT.

BTW, OpenOffice/LibreOffice suite uses the HSQLDB database but please make sure it is at least 2.0 version of this database if you wish to try it out.

Anybody tested External Databases feature? Can we install the database and CT on the same machine or is it required for machines connected in a network. Which one do you recommend for Windows XP? I have superficial experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 only.

Is there any standard for fields in tab delimited text files? Currently, CT follows this scheme:

source TAB target|alternative target|alternative target TAB additional fields

I implemented the above based on the users' request. It seems to me that there is no common agreement on how to treat the fields. In your case the issue is with alternative targets. They are not pipe separated but set in other fields.

As for the mouse operations, all basic workflow operations have keyboard shortcuts. For example, press F2 to list the matched terms and press the term number to insert it. The same holds true for autotranslation and fuzzy matches (F1 key). Yes, to reach additional meta information such as segment/terms notes in Memory you need to use the mouse.

Sure, they are. I am good with csv files thanks to UniCSVed.

Well, but as I have stated above in my third message, Glossary file displays additional fields provided that you do not have duplicate source terms (with identical or different translations). I want to see the additional fields for duplicate terms and therefore Glossary is not so useful for me.

I guess one universal size of at least 128x128 in PNG format would be fine. Later scaling it down and converting to other operating systems shouldn't be a problem.

You can keep the duplicate entries when converting from a tab delimited glossary to a TMX memory. Just check Keep all duplicates box in Memory | New Memory | Filter when you create the new TMX memory for the conversion.

CT may freeze when you load huge TMX or glossary files into RAM memory assigned to CafeTran. You can increase this value. See Edit | Options | Memory tab | Java memory size (MB). Remember not to go over the actual RAM memory on your system.

When you see search results in the Memory tab, click the segment number and go to Edit Tu menu to see notes for this translation unit
