Hi Maria,

If you want to be able to show the changes you have made and you are using 2009 instead of 2011 then there is a great OpenExchange application called SDLXLIFF Compare. So you save a copy of the sdlxliff you get (the Studio bilingual file after opening the TTX in Studio), and then work on it. Once complete you save another copy with a different name and then compare the two. It;s very simple to use and the rendition of the changes is very clear and useful. If you keep copies of the sdlxliff at different stages of the translation and review workflow then you can easil;y revert back to one, or compare any you like. The change report can also be shared with someones else.

And the report, which can also be customised if you like, looks like this:

So it tracks the status and the changes made in the target, as well as displaying any comments added through Studio.

all seems to be OK but Trados Studio 2011 refuses to open my bilingual .doc document created in SDL Trados Translator's Workbench.
Error "This file type is not supported".
Any clue?

I am terribly sorry.

I completely forgot that the "Track Changes" feature was only implemented in Studio 2011. It was not part of Studio 2009.

Hopefuly somebody will be able to help you solve your situation.

Dear Miguel,

Many thanks for your swift reply! Unfortunately, I can find no "track changes" option under "editor" or any other heading for that matter... The only options I get under "editor" are: spelling, translation results window, concordance search window, font adaptation, automation, auto-propagation, languages. I don't know what else to do.

Oeyencami, you are GREAT! I reserved the whole evening to finally make TRADOS Suite 2007 work on my new computer with Office 2010. Hi Maria,

First, create a project as you would normally do in Studio adding at the appropriate step your TTX file, then:

1) Go to Tools/Options
2) Click on "Editor" to expand the option list
3) Click on "Track Changes". On the right you will find the options you need. You will need to have the "Review" checkbox checked.
4) Open your project if you have not done so
5) Click on the "Files" tab (bottom left of the screen)
6) Right-click on the file name
7) Choose "Open for Review". The file will open automatically in "Editor" view, for you to start work.
8) When you are done, save your file as a TTX file.

NOTE: Studio always creates an intermediate file SDLXLIFF, which will contain your tracked changes. As far as I know, a TTX file does not have this feature. So, if you need the translator to see your edits as tracked changes, probably you will need to send him/her the SDLXLIFF file. I hope somebody will correct me if I am wrong on this.

I have been given a ttx file to revise using trados. My version is studio 2009, i.e. tag editor is already incorporated into trados. How can I activate the editing function? Is there a "track changes" option similar to the one in Word?

This Office Suite X looks like it's rebranded OpenOffice.org/LibreOffice. I would personally stay away from it and stick to OpenOffice.org or LibreOffice.

*If* this office suite produces files with .odt, .odp, .ods etc. extensions, *then* chances are that Studio is compatible with it.

Thanks Natalie. I tried to contact my PM about it but he told me to just unzip the file. However, I still get the same message for password. I think since it is due today, I may have to submit the TM I created in .tmx format as well as the translated files.

Do you think this is reasonable enough?

Hi everyone,

I am having a problem opening a TM that is in .tmw format that was given to me by my PM. The TM was created from SDL Trados 2007 or 2009. When I try to open it in SDL 2011, it asks for administrator password. Even if I try to upgrade the TM, it still asks for password.

Can someone suggest how to open this TM?

How do I "Get placeable" (usually Ctrl+Alt+Down arrow) on my laptop without turning the screen upside down? I know I can use the menu option, but I am interested in a keyboard shortcut that doesn't mean I'll have to stand on my head. Thanks in advance :-)

I'm not sure where I've gone wrong here but I can't add any words to the dictionary when I'm doing the spellcheck. Words are still underlined in red and options provided but I can't add my selected word to the dictionary.

I'm using Trados Studio 2009.

Not very seldom it happens, that the file has the ending doc, but in fact is a rtf one.
Open in Word, press F12 and explicitly chose "Word format".
You could also try with Word 2003 instead of 2007 or the other way round.

Otherwise check, if in the file types a file type SDL Trados Translators Workbench is listed.
If not, than you should read a note "additional file types available" on the screen - click there and add this file type.
