About me

I have lived in France and in Spain. I am not only a native speaker of English, I am also assiduous in my use of the language and have an expert eye for grammar.

I have a great deal of experience in quickly learning a new field to write about it and edit papers in the field. In various jobs I learned about long-term nuclear waste storage, Superfund site remediation, biomedical evaluation of the immune system, community medicine, financial aid, Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and archaeology.

My largest translation assignment to date was the bi-monthly conversion of a French archaeology journal. I translated every word from the masthead to the events page. Le Monde du Bible published scholarly articles by researchers and field archaeologists who focused on the southern Mediterranean. It was published by Bayard Presse, SA (Paris), the fifth largest publishing house in France. I knew nothing of archaeology at the time I started, and Bayard was happy with my work. Some articles were emailed to me and others I took directly from the published French issue. The emailed articles generally had a turn-around time of one or two days. Please ask me to email a pdf of the source magazine and my published translations. Length of articles was about 3000 words. A typical issue comprised 33,000 words in English.

The most challenging assignment I've completed was the correction of an English-Spanish translation of a patient survey measuring post-traumatic stress disorder. The survey needed to make sense to Mexican-Americans possessing little formal education. The difficulty was to make the questions simple, but still retain the specificity necessary to the success of the survey.
