Dear colleagues, is there any software solution for automated AutoCad files translation? Copying and pasting with Trados T-Window for Clipboard is not effective for any serious work Thank you. Arterm

I don't know about CAT tools that work with AutoCad. Nevertheless, Autocad has a find-and-replace feature. Since a significant part of Autocad work is of repetitive nature (e.g. "circuit A, circuit B, ... "), you can use this feature to translate. When I work on AutoCad, my sequence is: a) Print the AutoCad drawing b) Highlight repeated words c) Use "find and replace" to translate them d) Continue with non-repeated words, deleting words in my printed... Dear Arterm, as far as I know, there is no possibility to export text out of AutoCAD. I worked a few years for Autodesk and wrote and translated manuals and I never came across such a function or even a workaround. Maybe this changed in the last versions and someone knows the solution. Maybe this changed in the last versions and someone knows the solution. When I have to translate AutoCAD text, I do not use CAT for drawings with only a few text, or my client makes an Excel table with the extracted text, which I translate, and the client's designer edits the text in the drawings then. The CAD developers should think about adding a text export/import function for localizing drawings. Does anybody know about such functions in CAD software? Otherwise, Edwal's trick helps to reduce the work involved. Best regards, Tobi ▲ Collapse | | | Tobi Local time: 01:21 English to German + ... I found a way now | Aug 26, 2004 |

Here's to part of it: The DwgTextTranslator is a powerful tool if you need to translate a series of drawings from one language to another. You can for instance translate English drawings to German ones with a few steps. Main features Translates drawings from one language to another using Ms Access. Change the language of a single drawing With this routine you translate the active drawing, by typing in such translations that are not present in the applications dictionary file, or by requesting translations from the internet, or using the Systran Language-translator. Translatation of a series of drawings. You can also translate a series of drawings. The routine hereby goes trough the drawings, and stores those texts that are not present in the applications dictionary, in a new database, NewWords.mdb. This file can be given to person responsable for the actual translation, or it can be translated using a software tool, such as Systran, or you can request translations from the internet. When this database is translated, it can be merged into the dictionary with a single command. Then the routine goes trough the drawings to be translated, and they are translated automatically. Platform AutoCAD2005 or higher / Access 2000 or higher (Russian and Chinese require the AutoCAD 2007 or higher) I'll try the demo, and then I'll tell you. | | | Fabio Descalzi Uruguay Local time: 20:21 Member (2004) German to Spanish + ... Hi there, I have just tried the demo (rather, a tutorial) and it seems to deliver useful results. Only bear in mind that, in case of unavailability of some sentence in the translation memory, the process might be "translate word by word". But in any case, this is a great help: you translate in AutoCAD, with an extra tool that shows the text to translate in a separate window. Now it's the turn of Chinese and Russian speakers to try! | |
