How can I insert accents in ppt texts? There is no 'symbols' drop down list. Perhaps with ASCII characters? Can anyone point me in the right direction for an on-line list with ASCII characters? TIA Sandra | | | Sanmar (X) Local time: 10:32 English to Dutch + ... TOPIC STARTER

Let's say you want to type French accents. Type all the accented letters in alphabetical order in word - one line for small letters and the second line for capitals. Just cut and paste these two lines in the PPT page. Whenever you have to type any accent copy paste that letter in the appropriate place. My friend did it in a more elegant way. Having said that, for the life of me I cannot imagine as to why Microsoft is disabling the symbol options in softwares other than word. If you have got spell check in your language, just go on typing without accents and the spellcheck feature should do the rest. Regards, N.Raghavan ▲ Collapse | |

Hi Sandra, In both PowerPoint 2000 and 2003 there is a menu option for inserting symbols (i.e. special characters) as in Word. I use the German version of PPT so I am guessing at the English menu names; they are probably the Insert menu and then the Symbol option. Good luck! If you set your keyboard layout to US International, you will still have the regular QWERTY keyboard, but you can also access all the common accented characters and symbols (€, ä, å, ñ, ç, ß, µ ... just to give a few examples) via a combination of the AltGr (right Alt-key) + a given key. (For instance, the € symbol is accessed via AltGr + 5; the Greek µ is AltGr+m). This works in any application, because the layout is reset in Windows. You can find graphics of the variou... You can find graphics of the various keyboard layouts, including instructions on how to print them, on Microsoft's site. Sorry I don't have the URL anymore, but if you google around a bit on keyboard layouts, you should be able to find what you need. HTH [Edited at 2004-04-22 18:19]
