Generally, the school bus pulling up in our drive and depositing the children is a good indicator that my work for the day is done!

I answered "A combination of the above" even if at 4 p.m. I have to stop working because my daugher comes back home (well, I have to pick her from school). Then I can restart my work in the evening (or night!)

When my eyes are red and glazed over and I'm so tired I can't think straight is usually how it works.

Several but not all of the above, to be precise: I'm tired I've done my day's quota I have other commitments (Other) I hardly ever deliver at the end of the day: early morning with a refreshed brain is when I do the last reading before delivery. Family is not a daily matter: they get my FULL attention during "long weekends" If I were to keep a fixed schedule, I would not be freelancing... I refuse to work after about 15.00, having usually started around 07.00. I think that that, with breaks for dog walking, shopping and cooking, is long enough. There is a life outside translating!

I don't have a fixed schedule as an independent professional. Of course, the main factor is tiredness, or if I'm slightly bored with the material at hand. Then I switch tasks: read a book or two, watch TV, call siblings or friends, go out for groceries. Sometimes the end of my workday coincides with a big delivery. So I figure it's time to celebrate another big project completed ahead of time...and invoiced.

I work until I am tired and then continue for a little longer until I have met my quota. Either one I set myself at the start of the day (week, project) or an adjusted one (can be up as well as down) I set myself when I started to feel tired.

I stop working at the end of the day because it is the end of the day, usually around midnight to 1 am. I will stop earlier if my brain has gone to sleep without me, but this is generally not the case. I am not a crazy workaholic however, just someone who has flexible schedule that works for her. It varies according to the seasons, but I generally have a day shift around 9 to 3pm and then pick up in earnest after 9pm.

Similar to Neil. Related to, yet not necessarily identical to, being tired. For me, it simply means that I have had enough of translation for that day. The time at which this happens tends to be inversely related to the difficulty (not inherent interest level) of the translation in question.

I usually stop because there is something else I need to do: keep an appointment, go to the store, make dinner, etc. Also, I sometimes stop because it is a nice day (our summer here is very short) and I want to enjoy it.
